The Mysterious Box
claudio_carvalho12 January 2019
Ephraim Goodweather tries to hold the four survivors quarantine but politics changes the big picture of the event with fake news. The 206 corpses vanish from the morgue and Nora and he believe the military are the responsible. Setrakian is in jail and receives the visit of an old enemy, Eldritch Palmer, who hires a Latin gangster to bring the mysterious box to the other side of New York in a CDC van. Who is helping him?

"The Box" keeps the great level of the pilot with the introduction of new characters but with the normal running time for a show (abt. 42 min.). The Van Helsing-like Abraham Setrakian seems to be the most promising character of this good series. My vote is eight.

Still interesting so far

Warning: Spoilers
The episode, "The Box" is still holding my interest in that the storyline is advancing as more character development is being added, but things seem to be getting a little tangled. One thing that is off-putting is that the vampires are ridiculous looking.

OK, I get that Guillermo delToro has to indulge his own imagination a little, but redoing the vampire characteristics might be going a little far. Too much change in what is accepted as the way vampires look and behave might not be good for the story.

Having the vampire hunter revealed as a death camp survivor is interesting, as it makes the character around 100 years old while appearing to be in his 80s. Developing his character slowly is probably a good thing.

I'm still dealing with the idea of vampires having tentacles shoot out of their mouths. To me, that's just silly. The first vampire attack was set up as a jump scare, sort of like the first vampire attack in 30 Days of Night, but it didn't really come off as well.

I'll keep watching, I suppose.

Intensity builds as episode 2 wraps up.
Brettyboy00730 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 2 is a wrap. The intensity is just building and building. Everyone just keep with the show. You won't regret it. It will have a lot of gore and high body counts.

In this episode, we get introduced to Vasily Fet (played by Kevin Durand), who is starting to be suspicious of the rapid appearances of rats. Why are there so many rats showing up? You'll find out.

Guess what? The survivors have been let out of quarantine. They are starting to show signs of becoming vampires as Bolivar gets a little "rough" with a fan and Luss has more red in her eye than the average person who can't sleep.

The ending of the episode is very good and intense. More humans are starting to get infected.

Excited for episode 3.

Sweet Episode [8/10]

Warning: Spoilers
Reaction / Review for The Strain Season 1 Episode 2: Episode 1 was great and I gave it a rating of 8.5/10. Eichorst is one poisonous dude, a real misanthrope, I love it. Most people don't care about the truth, they care about covering their as-ses, i love this line. The whole family / divorce situation for Eph, sucks. The musician is turning into a vampire, so the survivors didn't really ''survive''. So Palmer's plan is to become a vampire and avoid sickness and death? The Master looks cool. Overall a really good episode, I liked the first one more though so im going to give this one a lower rating. My rating is 8/10.
