I would never give this a pass Warning: Spoilers
"Porn Punk Poetry" that runs for over 40 minutes with credits is a German-language live action short film from 2014, so not too old, but also not too new. Director Hübner, who has made several other short films before that, is having a solid career right now and for writer Laudascher things are looking better again too. I wonder why though given the quality of this one here. Or absence thereof. For me, it was really the epitome of what an LBGT film should not be like. It relies fully on being categorized as such and sadly this is enough to attract a more than a few to watch this. Quality and creativity are entirely absent. The most ridiculous thing is really too how this film dares to call itself poetry. Punk it really isn't either. Porn to some extent, some uninspired shallow sex scenes we get here indeed. Coincidence is also a real issue here. Like when we have one character meet another randomly at a bar. Or when the male and female protagonist meet for the first time and they have a great deep connection immediately. Felt so pseudo important.

This fully applies to lead actor David Schütter too. He is all style and zero substance. This refers to his platinum blonde wild hair mostly, his muscles, but it's nothing in terms of range and versatility. Kinda embarrassing his meltdown near the end which was supposed to show us how multi-layered this struggling characrer really was, but it all went wrong for sure. Of course, in the end it is all harmonically fixed out of nowhere with the two lovebirds being together this very moment. This was a project by Hübner for a film academy I believe and he was still a student at that point and well what can I say? I would not have given him a pass for sure. But there's more stupid really because it's ridiculous to see that this film even received some awards recognition. Speechless. The music sucks too by the way and is nothing like punk from a positive perspective. Again, it's all make-believe, also in terms of the characters with foreign backgrounds. Maybe that explains why this film was shown on arte at some point. Massive thumbs-down from me. Highly not recommended.
