One-of-a-kind Avant Garde Horror
jfrentzen-942-2042114 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Opening with an wacky montage of animation, gory violence and a horror sequence in which man and woman (played by the director and producer) invite people over to their house to murder them, in order to appease "the demon in the TV," GUTTER PUNK MASSACRE begins in earnest when two couch potato drunks are attacked by a maniac. One of them, also played by the director, escapes and spends the remainder of this avant garde hour-long movie getting abused, locked in a car trunk, kicked and beaten, tied up and otherwise mauled by punks, as well as relentlessly chased by a different maniac. Interspersed with this action are scenes of punk rockers rehearsing, random murders by even more maniacs, and scenes of two obese cops investigating the killings. The style of GUTTER PUNK MASSACRE is unlike anything we've seen, told in a kaleidoscopic cartoon-like visual style and including occasional funny bits (actual cartoon music plays whenever the cops are on-screen); the sudden inclusion of scenes from PRINCE OF SPACE, MAGNETIC MONSTER, TV interviews with British punks, and U.S. Army stock footage; and numerous shots of people vomiting. But just because GUTTER PUNK MASSACRE is different doesn't make it any good.
