Warning: this Doctor Who review contains spoilers.
In the parlance of the times, we are so back.
After the three triumphant Tennant/Tate specials, I’ll confess that “The Church on Ruby Road” left me feeling slightly apprehensive. While an effective showcase for Ncuti Gatwa’s charisma, as a forecast for the new era I found it to be overly frenetic, bordering on slapdash. Christmas specials are always going to be broader affairs, but this one frequently felt like a first draft held together with little more than the raw enthusiasm of all involved.
Happily, “Space Babies” is more solid in every respect. It’s well structured, economical and – crucially – very entertaining. And while I doubt it will be topping many all-time favourite lists, that’s fine, because that’s not really its job.

Every day when we log on to Instagram, X (formerly known as Twitter), Reddit, or any other social media platform, we see hundreds of posts obsessing over a celebrity. While it's fine to praise an artist and share their work online, the moment the online fangirling ends and the offline stalking begins, it gets serious.
Baby Reindeer has impressed so many viewers with its realistic portrayal of the horrors associated with stalking. Both Richard Gadd, who wrote the show and actually experienced what his character goes through, and Jessica Gunning, who portrayed stalker Martha, have done a phenomenal job.
And if you are wondering where else you could have seen her performance, here are some of the most important pieces of Jessica Gunning's filmography.

Warning: contains Spoilers for Doctor Who episode “The Star Beast” and several modern Doctor Who episodes
The internet is still whirring after that explosive first episode of the three Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials, with the return of David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor and his beloved ex-companion Donna Noble (Catherine Tate).
There was certainly a lot to take in: “The Star Beast” saw an alien spaceship crash-landing in London, the arrival of the adorably fluffy Meep and sinister, bug-eyed Wrarth Warriors, the return of Unit (the international intelligence taskforce that investigates alien activity), and the very real threat that if Donna remembers who The Doctor is, she’ll die.
We also met Donna’s family, including her husband Shaun and daughter Rose, whom we eventually learn has genetically absorbed some of the metacrisis that threatened Donna’s life, subconsciously giving her some of The Doctor and Donna’s memories.

Doctor Who fans finally have a date for the broadcast of “The Star Beast”, the first of three specials to celebrate the show’s 60th anniversary. As we all start opening the little advent calendar windows counting down to the 25th of November, we are starting to have questions. During this celebration returning showrunner Russell T Davies has six whole decades of storytelling to draw from.
The 50th anniversary hit upon some of the most iconic high points of the series – Daleks, Unit, multi-Doctor stories, the Time War, even the Zygons!
But from what we have seen of the upcoming specials the callbacks this time around are a little bit more… esoteric. The Toymaker, a one-and-done villain from a lost episode at the dawn of the series. Beep the Meep, and a story called “The Star Beast”, hinting that this might be an adaptation or sequel to a mostly forgotten comic story from the eighties.

The Tenth Doctor claiming his “reward” is one of the most moving and emotional sequences in Doctor Who. After sacrificing himself to protect Wilfred Mott in “The End of Time Part II”, the regeneration process begins, but just before he’s forced to go, the Doctor grants himself a rare gift. He uses the Tardis not to save worlds, but to intervene in the lives of people he loves and indulges in a run of rare personal victories.

Nine. That’s the number of Doctor Who episodes that Wilfred Mott has appeared in so far. Just nine. And he was nearly in none.
Bernard Cribbins, a legend who spent seven decades acting and entertaining after joining a theatre club in Oldham as Assistant Stage Manager aged 14, was cast in “Voyage of the Damned” as Stan, selling newspapers from a kiosk as the aliens of the starship Titanic beam down and away again. It was intended as a cameo appearance only, but Howard Attfield was ill. Due to return as Donna Noble’s dad Geoff, Attfield filmed some scenes for Series 4 opener “Partners in Crime” before retiring from the role. He died shortly afterwards.
Behind the scenes, there had been hope that Attfield would have been able to act in the Sontaran two-parter, but his condition deteriorated and his wife said he could not carry on. It was at this point,...

It was announced last week that Russell T. Davies is returning to show run Doctor Who for the show’s 60th anniversary series and beyond. If that’s news to you, I refer you to my previous sentence. All the information is there. After a weekend to absorb the news and read takes of various temperatures, there’s still plenty to be positive about. There are potential negatives though, so let’s examine these first.
It’s true that Russell T. Davies burnt himself out at the end of his initial run (2005 – 2010), and felt there was nothing more he could do on the show. Some elements of Davies’ writing are difficult to watch.
Recent reports of inappropriate behaviour from actors on set during the tenure of Davies, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter have also raised questions regarding working practices and safety in the production. Assurances will be sought that there...

Summer’s here and time is right for dancing … on the deck of a large nautical vessel. During the late Seventies and early Eighties, the radio was dominated by silver-tongued white-dude crooners with names like Rupert and Gerry, emoting over balmy R&b beats, swaying saxes, and dishwasher-clean arrangements. Though it didn’t have a name, the genre — soft rock you could dance to — was dismissed by serious rock fans as fluffy and lame. But thanks to a web series in the mid-2000s, the style — belatedly named “yacht rock...

The character actor also played oil refinery worker Dougie Boudreau on the first four seasons of “Grace Under Fire” and a mafia lawyer in Joel Schumacher’s “The Client.”
On David Lynch’s groundbreaking “Twin Peaks” series, he played Jacques the French-Canadian card dealer at One Eyed Jacks and bartender on the first season of the ABC series. Cain's patient died, but she has a superbug that is rapidly spreading. Kit's son-in-law is battling cancer, and Bell made the TV show his own.

In a surprising and eerily timely end to the hour, Cain is now behind the spread of a superbug. What is your reaction, and how do you think they'll handle it?
Carissa: It's crazy how many shows are featuring out of control viruses right now. I'm happy that most are far more virulent immediately than what the majority of us are encountering.
Everything about Cain was so off the wall that standing by like a dumbass while his world began to go up in flames isn't at all surprising.

Sisters Hannah and Eliza Reilly love the crime genre but wondered why Australia has never produced a TV series which tackles the subject from a female perspective, apart from Wentworth and Prisoner.
So when the writers-directors-performers met with experienced crime writer Niki Aken at the Engendered Masterclass hosted by Bunya Productions last December, they came up with the idea of a premium drama series about two sisters who quit their day jobs in their quest to become full-time criminals.
The Reillys then asked Yolanda Ramke (Cargo) and Sarah Lambert (Lambs of God), whom they had met on a Screen Australia/Australian Writers’ Guild’s Talent USA trip last September, to join the project entitled Partners in Crime.
Producer Julia Corcoran signed on and Screen Australia today announced it is receiving story development funding.

What is the value of a really good liar? In AMC’s “The Little Drummer Girl,” South Korean director Park Chan-wook’s upcoming limited series adapted from British author John le Carré’s 1983 novel, a young actress lies to save lives. Recruited by Israeli spies, Charlie (Florence Pugh) uses her artistic talents to help them infiltrate and eradicate a Palestinian terrorist cell. Can she play a bad person without becoming one? Can she justify lying, again and again, in pursuit of the greater good?
Most of these ideas aren’t unique to the spy genre, let alone le Carré’s oeuvre, but Chan-wook infuses a bit of fun and a lot of beauty into the ’70s thriller, elevating it above AMC’s last le Carré adaptation, “The Night Manager.” His game cast makes each of the six episodes all the better, including an aptly lived-in turn from Pugh and one...

The latest outing of Doctor Who has now aired in the UK and it starred the most adorable alien around since Baby Groot. Season 11 episode 5, “The Tsuranga Conundrum,” saw the Doctor and her friends try to save a medical spaceship from being attacked by a tiny little critter called a Pting, which could eat literally anything it got its teeny hands on.
It’s fair to say the creature was the highlight for many fans in what was otherwise a mediocre outing. Apart from its cherubic features, some just thought it was hugely relatable given that it has an “all-you-can-eat” diet and gets a little cranky when its meals are interrupted. And below, you’ll find just a sampling of what folks are saying about the little guy on Twitter.
The Creature Is Such A Mood It Eats What Ever It Can Get It Hands On.. Sounds Familiar Tbh #DoctorWho pic.
