slice of life black comedy
paullampathakis19 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Gritty black comedy/drama that samples life through the eyes of an ambulance crew who have a rude awakening. You can almost smell the hospital change room after a long night shift, while watching the driver, doctor and assistant paramedic of the 03 team, float like zombies through a nightly routine that sees them tending to a seemingly never-ending stream of the ill and injured. No heroes exist in the slice of life narrative, just cynical but relatively decent humans, typical medicos, who in Romanian fashion, cope with the boredom and stress of their jobs with continuous obscenity-laden digs at each other. The occasional sexual interlude also helps. Their eastern European fatalistic world view -'life is shitty, little can ever change, so let's work around our situation', rings true to anyone who's ever visited that part of the world. Then one night they find piles of cash stashed under the mattress of one of their patients. That discovery leads to another – that even among this apparently tight trio of friends who've spent their careers helping the vulnerable, greed and need are just below a surface of civility and ethics. The ride is engaging and the ending is up to you. Pretty interesting music as well.

So bad it hurts

Warning: Spoilers
This is the first time I am writing a review for a film. The reason is the following: Worst movie I have ever seen. Don't get me wrong, there are great Romanian films but this one... unbearable. Shortly: slang idiotic language full of swears (nowhere in Romania have I heard that of language), medical procedures like those are done nowhere, indie low quality frames, full of clichés (Romanians and gypsies are thieves, poverty, divorcing Ms. sleeps with younger co-worker bla bla already seen those everywhere). Somehow, some people tend to think that picturing Romanians and this country in such a "boemian" way is called art. Well, I might not get this f(art) but nothing comes out of it: no emotion, no awareness of anything (it is not real, it is not fiction it is nothing in between. It is something around the block in the outskirts of an uncivil part of the country I do not know). All in all: nice soundtrack so I give it a 2. My friends were on the verge of leaving the cinema.
