Mediocre beginning to new cop franchise

"Friesland - Mörderische Gezeiten" is the beginning to a new series which takes place in Frisia and centers around two cops and the crimes that take place around them. It's a solid movie which is not too predictable, but sadly becomes worse towards the end, so I cannot give it a higher rating. The boss of the two seems to be involved with some pimp activities, so he ends up as a suspect and as a corpse not much later.

The film tries to be funny too, but Lukas' character losing consciousness repeatedly becomes quickly repetitive and not funny anymore. Florian Lukas you may know from "Goodbye Lenin!" or, more recently, "The Grand Budapest Hotel". The female protagonist is played by Sophie Burcu Dal. She has not that much big screen experience, but played with the great Dieter Pfaff in "Der Dicke" for example, a pretty good television series. Back to this movie, halfway in i got the idea that it could have been a nice change if the pharmacist (or forensic doctor) would not have been a helper, but the real killer. A move too brave for these filmmakers sadly. Instead she almost gets killed in an unrealistic scenario near the end. And we get to wonder who will become the new police chief, a topic that will be in the center of almost the entire second film. This movie here has some plot weaknesses, like the way the pharmacist discovers the alibi is not real through a random weather reference or how she pretty much solves the case at the exact same time as the cops. This film got a lot worse during its last 30 minutes compared to its first 30 minutes. Also the way how Lukas' character and the pharmacist (this character did almost nothing positive for me) both own their superiors in the final talk is pretty much way over the top and I did not like it. They tried so so hard to get these laughs from the audience.

There have been many crime movies recently centering around certain areas of Germany and there is nothing outstanding about this one in the very north of Germany. Unfortunately the sequel is even worse and less recommendable than this already forgettable start.
