Content is never as cool as the music and design

Pure Funk sees a future where music is banned but one soul and funk DJ takes to the skies in a continuing battle to bring music to the people while also evading the authoritative rulers. The film is very short but it does have a nice sense of cool in terms of the music and the feel of the film. The future city is well designed and it does have a degree of anime cool to the animation, although the limits of the CGI perhaps can been seen in some sequences. The music is cool and as the nicely done end credit plays out, it does feel like a cool little short.

The problem is that there isn't too much in the way of actual content here and what there is, isn't really as good as the look and feel of the film suggests it should be. It is amusing in its very brief narrative but a few more anime cool things in the chase and in the delivery would have helped it a great deal. Credit to the student makers for the technical side and the good eye for what makes the film cool, but it needed more in the way of content to really make it fly and be more memorable than it was.
