"SHOOTING STARS" REVIEW
Directed by Chris Robinson. A runtime of one hour and fifty-five minutes. Streaming on Peacock with a PG-13 rating.
This is the story of a young "Lebron James" played by Marquis Mookie Cook and his childhood friends growing up in Akron Ohio. "Lil Dru" played by Caleb McLaughlin, "Willie McGee" played by Avery Serell Wills Jr., "Sian Cotton" played by Khalil Everage, and "Romeo Travis" played by Sterling Henderson.
You watch this group of friends terrorizing any and every basketball team they played on growing up. Often coached and mentored by "Lil Dru" father "Coach Dru Joyce III" played by Wood Harris.
Things changed a bit when they got to high school. You watch them go a different route. Which had them link up with "Coach Keith Dambrot" played by Dermot Mulroney when they went to "St. Vincent-St. Mary High School". A move frowned upon by the local community.
You also see when "Lebron" met his now wife "Savannah" played by Katlyn Nichol. This was the wonder years. This is where their lives and friendships changed forever. In this magical true story about real friendship.
"Shooting Stars" was excellent. I loved seeing this story told in a film. It showed how powerful their bond was. Also showing some of these pivotal people in their lives and how it shaped them as men. Most of the story I knew but seeing it this way brought new attention to things I forgot or never knew.
It brought a feeling of normalcy toward "Lebron" and the boys. Because honestly, they were just like my boys and me growing up. They just could hoop and they had the second-best player to ever play the game of basketball on their squad too. But other than that they were just like us.
Great film with great insight. All the actors did a wonderful job. I also have to give a shout-out to Chris Robinson. He was an excellent music video director and took his talents to the big screen. I'm glad to see him ever evolving and taking his skill set to a new level. I give this film five mor fires 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 #CosmoandtheMovieWithin #CosmoMovieBlog #CosmoLanier #ShootingStars.
