Following up on their excellent Blood Money box set from last year, the folks at Arrow Video now offer the four-film collection Savage Guns, another deep dive into the vaults of the Italian western. With each of these releases, Arrow gives viewers the opportunity to form a richer and broader notion of the genre, to examine the way these films work the warp and weft of similarity and difference, providing audiences with expected payoffs of sex and violence while also playing variations (subtle or otherwise) on familiar generic themes.
Featuring sparkling new restorations based on original film elements, Savage Guns comes in another lavishly appointed package from Arrow Video, complete with hours of bonus materials, like cast and crew interviews, commentary tracks, introductions to each of the films by critic Fabio Melelli, and appreciations of two of the film scores by audiophile Lovely Jon. Released last fall, Lucky McKee’s “chamber thriller” Old Man had nothing to do with the Don’t Breathe films, despite starring Stephen Lang – who played the “Blind Man” in both Don’t Breathe and Don’t Breathe 2. But that didn’t stop the movie’s Russian distributor from marketing it as a prequel to those films! During an interview with Jb Hi-Fi, McKee laughed about the fact that his movie is part of the Don’t Breathe franchise, as far as Russia is concerned.
McKee said, “In Russia, they released it as Don’t Breathe: The Beginning. Kind of like the Italians used to do back in the day, with movies like Zombi 2.“
Sure enough, if you search the title Don’t Breathe: The Beginning, you’ll find confirmation that Old Man is a Don’t Breathe prequel in Russia.

Ask most cinephiles about the spaghetti western and Sergio Leone’s name will most likely be invoked. As for those who’ve delved a little deeper into the genre, chances are that they’ll name-drop one or both of the other Sergios: Sergio Corbucci (Django) and Sergio Sollima (The Big Gundown).
Back in 2021, Arrow Video’s Vengeance Trails box set aimed to broaden viewers’ horizons of the spaghetti western by spotlighting works by directors like Lucio Fulci, Massimo Dallamano, and Antonio Margheriti, whose names are more often associated with other genres. Now along comes Blood Money, which unveils several lesser-known yet excellent examples of the genre. The thematic through line this time out concerns the value placed on human life. As the grizzled protagonist of Find a Place to Die puts it: “Madness and greed were in men’s hearts a long time before you came along.”

Brace yourself for a broken record.
How can this show keep getting better and better when it's so good already? On Schmigadoon! Season 2 Episode 5, the hits start right off the bat, and they just keep coming.
Everyone on screen and behind the scenes is a master of their craft. It's that simple, folks!
Tituss Burgess gives us a sinister Sweeney-esque recap of where we're at with our various plotlines, and even though he's fantastic here, it can't compare to his big number that comes a little later in the episode.
Melissa has truly come into her own, and Cecily Strong is there right along with her.
Dropping the Funny Girl costume (and schtick), Strong goes full-on torch singer with "My Turn Now," an homage to the magnificent "Maybe This Time" from Cabaret.
Vocally, she's never sounded better, which a strong belt and confident mixed voice that soars. No wonder the audience loves her!

The month of April for Hulu is jam-packed with TV and film goodies, from Adam Sandler’s 1999 comedy “Big Daddy” to Fox’s hit sitcom “New Girl.”
On top of Hulu’s rollout of a new interface, it’s also adding some major film and TV titles to its platform. Some of the highlights that set off the first day of April include “American Psycho,” “Shrek” and its sequel “Shrek 2,” plus the Tim Story-directed “Think Like a Man.”
Anime series will be all the rage on Hulu with the dubbed version of the new popular series “Chainsaw Man” arriving, along with “Spy x Family” and “Black Clover.” If you’re looking for something a little bit more kid-friendly, the family can al enjoy “Despicable Me” and “Despicable 2,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days” and “Nanny McPhee.” For the lovers and heartless romantics, “Dear John” and “Date Night...

Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2023 don’t feature many blockbusters, but if we dig a little, I’m sure we can find some gems.
Perhaps the most promising items are on the TV side of things. Tiny Beautiful Things premieres on April 7 and stars Kathryn Hahn as “a floundering writer who becomes a revered advice columnist while her own life is falling apart.” That will be followed by comedy Am I Being Unreasonable? on April 11 and two documentaries: high school football story Algiers, America (April 19) and Tupac Shakur piece Dear Mama (April 22).
The best TV candidate this month, however, is probably Saint X on April 26. This series, told via multiple timelines, “explores and upends the girl-gone-missing genre as it explores how a young woman’s mysterious death during an idyllic Caribbean vacation creates a traumatic ripple effect that eventually pulls her surviving sister into a dangerous pursuit of the truth.

Stephen Lang – who played the “Blind Man” in Don’t Breathe (watch it Here) and its sequel – stars in genre filmmaker Lucky McKee’s “chamber thriller” Old Man, and a couple weeks ago we learned that Rlje Films has picked up the Old Man distribution rights and plans to give the film a theatrical, VOD, and digital release on October 14th. With the release date just a month away, a trailer for Old Man has now arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
Scripted by Joel Veach, who also wrote the story as a play that was workshopped at the Actor’s Studio in New York, Old Man follows
a lost hiker who stumbles upon the cabin of an erratic and reclusive Old Man. What starts off as cordial conversation soon turns dangerous as it becomes clear that one or both of them might be hiding a terrifying secret.

Almost two years have gone by since we first heard that Stephen Lang – who played the “Blind Man” in Don’t Breathe (watch it Here) and its sequel – would be starring in genre filmmaker Lucky McKee’s “chamber thriller” Old Man, not to be confused with the Jeff Bridges TV series The Old Man. “Bernard and Huey” helmer and co-founder of Slamdance Film Festival Dan Mirvish, now behind “18 ½,” knew that making a movie about Watergate would still be “resonant and relevant,” he says. Not just in the U.S., but all over the world.
Focusing on the infamous “18½-minute gap” from a taped conversation between Nixon and his chief of staff H.R. Haldeman after the Watergate break-in, allegedly erased by Nixon’s secretary by mistake, a Bugeater Films and Kyyba Films production – starring Willa Fitzgerald and John Magaro – will open theatrically on May 24 in Los Angeles, New York and Omaha, later expanding to other cities.
“[On ‘Bernard and Huey’] our last day of shooting was on the day of the 2016 presidential election. I had a feeling that the word ‘impeachment’ or the echoes of Watergate and Nixon would come back to haunt us,” Mirvish tells Variety.

Bon Jovi rode their 1987 single “Wanted Dead or Alive” — with its power-ballad metaphor about a wandering outlaw, his steel horse, and a loaded six-string — into Eighties jukebox history. And it cemented singer Jon Bon Jovi as a rock-star cowboy in the process. He returned to the Wild West theme, with cowriters Richie Sambora and Holly Knight, for a pair of songs (“Ride Cowboy Ride,” “Stick to Your Guns”) on 1988’s New Jersey too. The death of Sir Sean Connery on Saturday has already been met by a wave of reactions across the Internet, including from other James Bonds and George Lucas. The latest tribute comes from Stephen King, though, who shared a photo of Connery in his first starring role as a boxer in the BBC’s Blood Money, but also acknowledged some of the divisive opinions about the actor.
Sean Connery in his first starring role, as a washed-up boxer. He was a fine actor and by most accounts a good guy. pic.twitter.com/q1kmxUrFGC
— Stephen King (@StephenKing) October 31, 2020
The “by most accounts” note presumably refers to the allegations made by his first wife, Diane Cilento, about his mental and physical abuse during their marriage. This controversy also extended to comments made by Connery within interviews where he alluded to being in support of hitting women, something that he later retracted.

Shooting has resumed in Rome on romantic drama “Eddie & Sunny,” helmed by U.S. director Desmond Devenish and starring Gabriel Luna (“Terminator: Dark Fate”) and Joanna Vanderham (“Warrior”).
The previously unannounced film is the second international shoot to resume filming in Italy, following Sky original series “Domina,” after production was forced to stop due to the coronavirus crisis in February. The next foreign production expected to restart locally after a Covid-19-related halt is “Mission: Impossible 7,” for which Tom Cruise is soon expected in Venice.
“Eddie & Sunny” is based on the eponymous 2015 novel by writer-director Stacey Cochran. Pic is produced by Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi’s Rome-based Iervolino Entertainment, the expanding shingle behind Johnny Depp-starrer “Waiting for the Barbarians.”
Devenish, a multi-hyphenate who previously directed the thriller “Misfortune,” wrote the “Eddie & Sunny” screenplay. Silvio Muraglia’s Los Angeles-based Paradox Studios has acquired worldwide distribution rights.

As reported by Deadline, “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” drew an average-minute audience rating of 6.5 million in its first three days, which totals out to around 8.2 million U.S. viewers over its opening weekend. While Netflix is traditionally tight-lipped about its viewership numbers and what they mean, this certainly has to be seen as a success for the Aaron Paul-led, Vince Gilligan-directed follow-up film to AMC’s “Breaking Bad” — especially on top of the established critical success of the film.

Death of Me, starring Maggie Q and Luke Hemsworth and directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, is getting a theatrical release next year thanks to Saban Films. Here's the announcement from Saban Films with plot details that make this sound like the horror version of The Hangover:
Los Angeles (August 22, 2019) – Saban Films announced today that they have acquired North American rights to Darren Lynn Bousman’s Death of Me. Starring Maggie Q and Luke Hemsworth and from a script penned by Ari Margolis (Black Days) & James Morley III and David Tish (Blood Money).
Death of Me centers on a couple on an exotic holiday who awaken one morning with a hangover and no recollection of what transpired. After NBC aired its live production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” in April, one name skyrocketed onto the Emmy radar: Brandon Victor Dixon. He’s best known for his stage work, including Tony-nominated turns in “The Color Purple” (2006) and “Shuffle Along” (2016) and a Tony win for producing “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” (2014). But Dixon impressed TV critics and audiences alike with his performance as Judas Iscariot alongside household names John Legend as Jesus, Sara Bareilles as Mary Magdalene, and Alice Cooper as King Herod. For his performance, Dixon landed his career-first Emmy nomination for Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actor.

There are iconic Walter White lines every “Breaking Bad” fan can quote by heart, from “I am the one who knocks” to “say my name” and “I did it for me,” but none of those are Bryan Cranston’s favorite line from playing White across five seasons and 62 episodes. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in celebration of the “Breaking Bad” pilot’s 10th anniversary, Cranston made a surprise choice for his favorite Walter White line in history: “Tread lightly.”
The two words are uttered by White in “Blood Money,” the ninth episode of the show’s fifth and final season. DEA agent Hank (Dean Norris) has discovered that brother-in-law White is the drug lord he has been chasing for two years. Hank tells White he doesn’t know who White is anymore, to which White replies, “If that’s true, if you don’t know who I am, then maybe your...

John Cusack stars in a new action thriller called Blood Money and today we have the first trailer for you to watch. Cusack plays a sniper in the film who gets bent out of shape when three friends camping in the woods find a shit ton of money that he stole. As greed starts to infect everyone, things start to fall apart and Cusack will do what he needs to to get his money back. Here's the official synopsis:
Three friends (Ellar Coltrane, Willa Fitzgerald, Jacob Artist) on a wilderness excursion must outrun a white collar criminal hell-bent on retrieving his cash, but soon their greed turns them against each other.
This actually doesn't look like a bad movie. It's been awhile since I've seen Cusack make something decent, so I wasn't sure what to expect. While it may not be anything awesomely exciting, it still looks like it could be entertaining.

"What did you do to get this money?" Saban Films has launched the trailer for a new action thriller titled Blood Money, from horror filmmaker Lucky McKee. This film seems like it's straight out of the 90s, with John Cusack in a lead role as a white collar criminal who tries to retrieve his cash, but three kids pick it up first. Cusack gets all crazy on them, bringing a sniper rifle along to make sure he gets his money. The rest of the cast includes Ellar Coltrane, Willa Fitzgerald, Jacob Artist, and Ned Bellamy. This looks pretty awful, without much going on besides petty greed. Might be okay for a late night watch, but I'm not too sure. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Lucky McKee's Blood Money, direct from YouTube: Three friends (Ellar Coltrane, Willa Fitzgerald, Jacob Artist) on a wilderness excursion must outrun a white collar...

This year’s Afm had no single standout title, but a selection of high-profile projects and star appearances sparked buyer interest.
In an increasingly polarised independent space besieged by a talent exodus to TV and the might of digital platforms and studio acquisitions teams, the consensus was there was no single must-have title at the 2016 American Film Market (Afm). So it was up to a handful of appealing projects and star appearances to inject life into the market.
As Screen International revealed, Sacha Baron Cohen showed up at the Annapurna International offices to talk up his $20-30m Danish comedy remake Klown. Viola Davis trumpeted Gfm Films’ The Personal History Of Rachel DuPree, Margot Robbie met Sierra/Affinity buyers for I, Tonya, and Mark Wahlberg took part in a TWC-Dimension presentation with writer-director Damian Szifron for The Six Billion Dollar Man.

As the industry descended on Toronto International Film Festival (Sept 8-18), buyer interest heated up around Venice hit Jackie ahead of Sunday’s North American premiere and Netflix reportedly circled a global streaming deal on The Bad Batch [pictured].
Completed films in the festival, such as Pablo Larrain’s English-language debut and Lily Ana Lily Amirpour’s second feature, represent one kind of opportunity for buyers, albeit one that has prompted familiar gripes about a lack of broadly commercial must-haves.
However the late arrival of a handful of enticing packages on the eve of Toronto has quickened pulses for savvy buyers willing to risk early investment on select prospects.
