Realistic Portrayal of the World's Biggest Heavy Metal Festival
basemnt-dwellr21 March 2015
Welcome to the holy land of Wacken!

The movie is not a live recording of a concert, but rather a documentary about the world's biggest heavy metal festival. Every year, about 75,000 metal fans from all over the world travel to Wacken, a small village in northern Germany, to listen to more than 100 famous and not so famous bands.

The movie includes interviews with a couple of metal fans and some of the musicians, and of course there is also the music. The filmmakers managed to capture the atmosphere perfectly. Everybody is peaceful, in good spirits, and having lots of fun during the four days of the festival.

I think all those metal fans who have been to Wacken or are planning to go there should see the movie. However, not just them, but also everybody else who wants to know what Wacken is like, should see it. Great movie! And now that I've watched it, I can hardly wait till July 30, when this year's festival starts.

Good but could have been better.

Warning: Spoilers
Lots to love for metal fans. Here are my few issues: 1. Why build up the battle of the bands and then not show the winner perform? 2. Sometimes it just felt like it was trying to hard to be artsy. 3. Would have loved interviews with the creators of the festival.

Finally been there

I guess this is the second best thing, if you've never been to Wacken. On the other hand if you are a real Metal fan, how can you not have been there? Stop reading/watching and go there immediately. Well actually not right now, but when the next festival is of course. Some people will recognize themselves, because we do not only get the rock-stars but also visitors of Wacken and their thoughts.

It is a well balanced affair and should entertain you, if you at least like Metal music a little bit. There are a few performances and a couple of classic (rock) songs being played. There is also one instance where we get classical music that scores people going "me(n)tal"! A great scene (with slo-motion effects and nice pictures).

There is a lot of profanity and if you're easily offended this isn't for you, but then again, it wouldn't be Rock&Roll otherwise, right?

just ok

I would've liked it a lot better if there was English subtitles for the non english interviews and comments. When I see things like "German being spoken here," I have to think if they could do that they could've just as easily translated.

Could have been better!

This is a festival I have wanted to go to for years but probably won't get to as it's in Germany. I found this on Prime & watched. It focused too much on the bands in the little tent that have gone nowhere!! I thought this was going to give a focus on the main festival that people are interested in instead of the sideshow wannabes!! That was a huge disappointment but otherwise this was ok.

The show must have been great..

Warning: Spoilers
I was geared up to watch a great show. I love metal and was excited to watch this. Some big bands and appears like it is going to be epic. The problem is that in the middle of songs it will cut to another scene. During Deep Purple it cut to a guy putting in his contact lenses. I was not happy but I kept watching. I was so excited that Lamb of God was coming on stage. But in the middle of there song it cuts to guys jumping in mud. I understand that they want you to get the live experience but they should have had Lamb of God playing still... the music changed to some non metal song and it never cut back to Lamb of God! I had to shut it off. I basically wasted my night.
