This sub-genre is so abundant that in “Fatale,” its latest victim (an appropriately jittery Michael Ealy) once played the unhinged baddie in another film about physical intimacy gone very much awry (“The Perfect Guy”).

Henderson, producer Darryl Taja (The Perfect Guy) and Empire studio 20th Century Fox TV, where Henderson is under an overall deal.
Written by Johnson, Diversity Hire is described as an irreverent workplace half-hour that will comedically explore our beliefs about race, class, and gender, while pushing the boundaries of political correctness. Ld Entertainment’s reimagining of “Jacob’s Ladder,” the 1990 psychological thriller directed by Adrian Lyne, starring Tim Robbins, has set what should be a final release date, six years after the project was launched.
Directed by David M. Rosenthal and written by Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorp, this reimagining stars Michael Ealy, Jesse Williams, and Nicole Beharie.
In the original, scripted by Bruce Joel Rubin, the protagonist is a Vietnam veteran whose experiences prior to and during the war result in fragmented flashbacks and bizarre hallucinations that continue to haunt him, as he desperately tries to get to the bottom of it all. Although not a box office hit ($26 million gross on a $25 million budget), the film went on to achieve cult hit status.
First announced in 2013, and finally shot in 2016, Ld Entertainment’s remake has remained mostly shrouded in secrecy. The production company’s goal was to produce more of an homage,...

Records continue to fall as Disney's Avengers: Endgame makes ready for its sophomore frame. After having already topped $452 million domestically (#17 all-time) and $1.664 billion worldwide (#6 all-time), the film enters its second weekend looking to top Star Wars: The Force Awakens's $149.2 million second weekend and add that record to its list of achievements. Beyond that, the film will top $600 million domestically this weekend and has a shot at outperforming 2012's The Avengers, which brought in $623.4 million after 154 days in release — Endgame is looking to do push past that number in just ten. As already mentioned, Star Wars: The Force Awakens currently holds the record for the largest second weekend of all-time with $149.2 million. While Avengers: Endgame destroyed Force Awakens's opening weekend by more than $100 million, Force Awakens dipped just -40% in its sophomore frame. Don't look for Endgame to follow suit, but given the sheer size of Endgame's debut, the second...

Home invasion thrillers have given us plenty of maniacal villains hellbent on terrorizing helpless residents of cavernous houses. Whether they’re driven by dementia or greed (or both), these villains pillage, plunder, and leave the scene a bloodbath.
Rarely are they provoked by a former homeowner’s mundane desire to still occupy the residence, as it is for Dennis Quaid’s vein-popping Charlie Peck in director Deon Taylor’s “The Intruder.”
In director Jung Huh’s 2013 film, “Hide and Seek,” the unhinged former renter (Mi-seon Jeon) is at least driven to madness due to a visceral combination of grief and poverty. But Charlie is nothing more than a man who’s mad that he lost his money after a few bad business deals and had to give up his gigantic Napa Valley home to a successful young married couple: Annie and Scott Russell. Charlie gets a huge windfall after they buy his home,...

A couple find themselves the target of a madman in a familiar retread of early 90s psycho-from-hell thrillers that squeezes enjoyment from tired cliches
After its peak in the early 90s, the psycho-from-hell thriller, typified by films such as Fatal Attraction, Single White Female and Pacific Heights, died a villain’s death at the box office, only rearing its head infrequently in the years since. In the late 00s, Sony’s genre label Screen Gems spotted a gap in the market and started pumping out variations on a cookie-cutter formula but with one key difference. Films such as Obsessed, No Good Deed, The Perfect Guy and When the Bough Breaks have been almost universally populated by actors of colour in strict opposition to the all-white thrillers that came before them.

As it continues its push into scripted television, indie feature studio Roadside Attractions has acquired the one-hour drama pilot The Golden Cage, a female-driven Wall Street thriller from Page Awards Finalist scribe Oskar Nordmark and Darryl Taja’s Epidemic Pictures, for TV series development.
Created by Nordmark, The Golden Cage is set in New York and details the lengths an ex-con will go to both camouflage her past and ensure a top spot for herself in the competitive world of high finance on Wall Street. Wall Street has been the setting for several of Roadside’s most notable feature releases, including Arbitrage and Margin Call.
Taja (The Perfect Guy) will executive produce through his Epidemic Pictures banner, along with Adam Rodin (Extant). Nordmark will serve as co-executive producer. Roadside Attractions’ Howard Cohen, Eric d’Arbeloff and Jennifer Berman will also serve as Executive Producers.
Rodin originally brought the project to Taja to develop and produce.

Midnight Meat Train, The Prodigy, and Pet Sematary writer Jeff Buhler has been developing a remake of the 1990 psychological horror thriller, Jacob’s Ladder since 2013. Production on the film has been delayed and in a recent interview with Rue Morgue, he explains why he thinks the film has been put on hold, saying:
"I think [the delay] was because the market had a whole handful of these movies—and maybe I inadvertently had a hand in this, because The Prodigy was slated for February 8th. Escape Room was coming out, and there were a whole bunch of other psychological thrillers and horror films stacked up for January and February, so they bumped it to later in the year. They announced that original date, but then when they moved off of it, they never announced that fact. So everyone was operating under the assumption that it was opening February 1st, but that wasn’t the case.

In today's unnecessary remake news, Bloody-Disgusting is confirming that Ld Entertainment's remake of the insane 1990 psychological horror thriller, Jacobs Ladder is still happening. In fact, it may end up being released in theaters on February 1st, 2019. That date could change, though.
The original film followed a haunted Vietnam War veteran who "attempts to discover his past while suffering from a severe case of dissociation. To do so, he must decipher reality and life from his own dreams, delusion, and perception of death."
The film was first announced in 2013 and Midnight Meat Train scribe Jeff Buhler was taking it on. It was initially explained that the plan was to make the remake "something more akin to an homage and not mimic the original." The remake will "contemporize the story with new situations and characters but still maintain a story that examines issues and poses existential questions."

But now that she finds herself suddenly thin, Patty is out for payback against anyone who has ever made her feel bad about herself.Bob Armstrong (Dallas Roberts), a disgraced attorney whose true passion is coaching beauty pageant contestants, is the only one who sees Patty’s potential, and takes her under his wing — first as a legal client, and then as a pageant contestant whom he coaches toward becoming the top pageant queen in the country. Damon Wolf has been named head of worldwide marketing for Lionsgate’s motion picture group.
It’s a surprising hire in some respects. Wolf, currently an Evp of marketing at TriStar Pictures, Screen Gems, and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions, has a low profile in the industry. He replaces Tim Palen, considered to be a giant in the movie business and a creative genius. His hire is part of a wider house-cleaning at the studio behind “The Hunger Games.” Joe Drake has been putting his imprint on the film division since taking the reins as motion picture chairman last winter.
Drake replaced veteran Lionsgate executives Erik Feig and Patrick Wachsberger in February. Both men are leaving to start their own companies, but that shake-up raised eyebrows across the industry because they were exiting after a string of successes. Under Feig and Wachsberger, Lionsgate released the likes of “La La Land,” “Wonder,...

Exclusive: Damon Wolf has been set to become president of worldwide marketing for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. Wolf is the current co-head of marketing at TriStar Pictures, Screen Gems and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions. He will make the move January 1, and will replace Tim Palen.
Palen, the longtime marketing chief and the brains behind such lauded film launch campaigns as The Hunger Games and La La Land, will continue to steer marketing for Lionsgate until early year end. Then, he’ll become Lionsgate Chief Brand Officer, overseeing the company’s franchise management and location-based entertainment, reporting to Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer. Wolf will report to Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, who has been overhauling his team and who counts Wolf as a key hire after naming his longtime collaborator Nathan Kahane to the president post.

"There's a lot to be afraid of out there..." Netflix has debuted an official trailer for an indie film titled How It Ends, the latest from filmmaker David M. Rosenthal. How It Ends is a post-apocalyptic survival thriller, one of those where they don't really explain the apocalypse or what happened. The plot involves a desperate father trying to return home to his pregnant wife after a mysterious apocalyptic event turns everything to chaos. Theo James stars, along with Forest Whitaker, Kat Graham, Kerry Bishé, Mark O'Brien, Nicole Ari Parker, and Grace Dove. This pretty much came out of nowhere, so I'm not sure what to make of it. It seems like there's some cool things going on here, but I really don't have a good feeling. It's worth a look just to check out another Netflix film. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for David M. Rosenthal's How It...
