A funny and enjoyable sequel.

My entire family loved the first one and we bought this as soon as we saw there was a sequel. Though not as good as the original, we laughed quite a bit and really enjoyed this sequel.

WORTH A WATCH

I Went to see this with my 8 year old daughter and both really enjoyed it. Very easy to follow.

Loved the bird and dog friendship but did find the romance sub-plot between the two main characters a little weak.

Pretty good sequel with lots of noisy action , humor , charming characters and funny scenes
ma-cortes27 December 2019
Fun as well as brilliant animated piece that has the rare quality of appealing both to youngsters and adults , but on different levels . This wonderful film is plenty of fantasy , adventures, spectacular feats and breathtaking scenarios from Granada and Turkey , shot in 3D Computer Generator . The picture is narrated with imagination and sense of wonder and turns out to be very entertaining , as it is apt for small kids and adults , too . It has neither graphic violence or profanity , but entertainment and amusement . Tadeo (Spanish voice by Barberan) is a Chicago building worker who has aspirations to be a prestigious archaeologist and adventurer just like his hero Max Mordon . Nowadays , he goes on his dream to become a famous archaeologist and while he is studying archaeology to graduate. One day, Sara (voice by Michelle Jenner) invites Tad to an exposition in Las Vegas, where he hopes that she accepts turning in his fianceé . Just before to carry out the trip , Tad realizes that the mummy of Paititi has been banished from the Inca city by help him and he shows up at home , forcing Tad to travel Las Vegas with his dog Jeff and the mummy himself . But all hopes and dreams of Tad break when a wealthy person named Jack Rackham appears on stage . Unfortunately for Tad , Sara is abducted and coerced to reveal the location of the three parts of Midas' necklace . Then the most botcher adventurer , Tadeo , teaming up with the mummy , the dog Jeff , and Belzoni (a grouch and clever parrot who is capable to communicate by using show-bills) set out in search for his lover Sara . As soon as they arrive in the historical town of Granada , there takes place a great number of pursuits , chases throughout stairs , mayhem and surprising discoveries at the Alhambra underground . Later on , Tadeo along with his dog , mummy , Belzoni (Sara's pet) and Sara take on several dangers , risks and adventures . Get ready for a great adventure.

Very amusing and agreeable computer generator movie compellingly realized in magnificent visual style . The awkward adventurer Tadeo , the construction worker , began like a parody of Indiana Jones, but after screenplay began to develop its own personality and became a visual comic . The plot is plain and simple , here Tad Jones forming team with Tiffany (Sara's scholar) , Mummy , the dog Jeff and parrot Belzone (Sara's pet that talks to people by means of show-bill) and his friends will travel all around the world attempting to find and free Sara and vanquish millionaire Rackham before he receives all power of necklace to become in gold anything he touches . This is a high quality film plenty of adventures , fun situations , humor with tongue-in-cheek , fantasy , resulting to be extremely amusing and including a catching musical score by Zacarias M. de la Riva . Tadeo character is a blending between known Indiana Jones and a popular hero from Spanish comic books called ¨Super Lopez¨ . This Tadeo Jones adventure has surprised me on so many levels that I actually rated it higher than the recent Disney/Pixar films . Sensational and fantastic tale , it's a masterpiece computer generator movie , a great animation with enjoyable screenplay and funny happenings . It contains a real attention to detail in every shot is simply staggering ,and on top of it all it is a very nice-looking movie . One of a kind, if you enjoy interesting stories and have a soft spot for attractive characters and well planed scenarios, you are in for a great one . Excellent production , lavish and colorfully realized similar to a Hollywood product . In addition , an amusing story with attention to period detail and a great technical quality . This is the long running to sympathetic character previously appeared in the short films titled "Tadeo Jones" (2004) and its sequel "Tadeo Jones and the basement of doom" , all of them won more than 25 national and international prizes, including the Goya Award for Best Spanish animation film . This is also the sequel to ¨Adventures of Tadeo Jones¨ or "Tad, the Lost Explorer" , as good as the original , it is a big step ahead in production quality when compare to its predecessors .

This stunning film with appropriate runtime , converted the first of any kind to gross over the box office in Spain and all over the world . The motion picture was splendidly realized by David Alonso and Enrique Gato who are preparing a third follow-up . The movie achieved several prizes , such as : Cinema Writers Circle Awards, Spain , 2018 Winner CEC Award : Best Animated Film , Enrique Gato and David Alonso ; Gaudí Awards 2018 Winner : Best Animated Feature , and Goya Award : the best animation movie . Rating : Better that average , worthwhile watching ; advisable to see for kiddies and adults who appeal the splendid C.G. drawings . Great family fun, although predictable and somewhat a parody , this movie has a plot to hold a child's attention.

An ambitious adventure
VisualConnoisseur3 February 2018
Considering the fact that this movie cost only ~9 million euros, Lightbox Animation Studios did a terrific job. Characters are developed with tremendous passion and the charm of Momia could rival even Pixar productions. The story is full of warmth and emotion, while the romance sub-plot has the right balance of superficiality and drama. There is not much depth, but it's expected for an U rated movie.

However, while the main characters are animated with love, the environment feels too empty and unpopulated. Even though the car chase scenes take place in the middle of the day, there are barely any visual dynamics in the background, e.g. people. At times, the movement of distant objects/characters looked quite wonky and unrealistic, breaking the immersion of the scenes.

Overall, Tad 2 is a decent movie for the younger audience.

An average animation
MihaiSorinToma30 September 2018
After a recent discovery is stolen from his beloved Sara, constructor Tad Jones embarks on a quest of helping her recover it before an ancient power granted by King Midas's necklace is unleashed in the hands of the bad guys. Helped by her sidekick and a curious mummy character, they will have to venture in various places around the world, racing to find the missing pieces of the artifact before their evil rivals.

It's an animation clearly inspired by the famous Indiana Jones, which presents the adventures of its own Tad Jones in his quest of helping the girl but also winning her heart. The characters involved are quite likable but not so complex and even a bit predictable, doing their job but nothing more, with quite simplistic dialogue most of the time. The plot itself is OK-ish, not bringing anything impressive but also being good enough most of the time, keeping it all together but without any shine, fact which represents a big letdown, at least as far as I'm concerned.

The action depicted is also OK, but not spectacular, with plenty of predictable events, or even awkward situations which shouldn't have been there. It's even pretty lame from time to time, not being able to generate enough suspense or drama in order to make you care about the characters or what is about to happen with them. Unfortunately, about the same can be said about the finale, which is predictable and even a bit disappointing, especially regarding the side-characters.

The animation on the other hand is the sole fact with managed to impress me. It's so well done, with plenty of details, vibrant colors and amazing scenery. It has to be noted that they have done a very well job in this department. Unfortunately though, a huge disappointment comes from something also related to this. The lips sync is completely off...and I don't mean that the sound is delayed or something. They simply weren't able to make the mouth of all the characters move enough to actually represent the words that were actually heard by the viewers. You could hear plenty of dialogue but the mouths simply couldn't keep up, closed too early or weren't wide open enough to be on par with the tone heard.

There isn't much to be liked about this movie. Yes, it looks great from most angles but unfortunately that's about it. You get an average story with average characters and some action maybe a bit above average but with a huge flaw in terms of lips sync. It's an animation which can be easily skipped unfortunately, as it is not able to bring almost anything out of the ordinary, of course besides the previously mentioned white ball.

A rather enjoyable animated adventure...
paul_haakonsen16 June 2018
I sat down to watch "Tad the Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas" (aka "Tadeo Jones 2: El secreto del Rey Midas") with my 8 year old son.

It turned out that we actually both quite liked the storyline and were more than adequately entertained by what we saw here. Not only did "Tad the Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas" have an entertaining storyline and plot, but it was also an abundance of fun and laughs. Most of which were produced by the mummy sidekick.

Neither of us were aware that this was not the first movie, but I guess it doesn't require you to have watched the first movie, because I didn't feel that I was missing out on anything, well aside from the story of how Tad and the mummy got to know one another, as it was hinted to in the story.

The animation style was quite good and it was a nice treat to look at on the screen. We saw an English dubbed version of this, which actually worked out well enough, despite it being a dub. Usually dubbed versions suffer from a terrible voice acting performance, but not "Tad the Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas".

"Tad the Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas" has something for all ages. My son liked it because it was, well let's just be honest, an animated movie. I enjoyed it for the comedy, storyline and its light-hearted similarity to "Indiana Jones" in a sense.

Pleasant family fun
muamba_eats_toast6 March 2019
Follows a well used formula but has enough fun moments to pass the time. Children will probably enjoy more than adults but still very much watchable as an adult as it avoids becoming to basic.

It's inoffensive and sometimes fun fluff, but its charm wears off eventually.
Pjtaylor-96-13804412 February 2018
'Tad The Lost Explorer And The Secret Of King Midas (2018)' starts off as a bit of an in-joke, with pretty much every slightly ill-translated line and off-kilter piece of bouncy animation serving to further add to the piece's odd, cobbled-together and just-a-bit misinformed charm. That all wears off fairly quickly, though, once the flick gets into its repetitive and pretty boring second act. Here, it constantly aims to remind you that the little bumps you previously thought were quirky fun are actually still culminating to that nagging pain you're starting to feel. It's not a particularly bad feature, however, in fact it's quite entertaining until it starts to run out of steam. The piece is also surprisingly 'edgy' for kids stuff, considering that it certainly skews supremely young, but its strange that its core narrative conceits concern things that will be totally alien to children (love triangles and someone being 'out of your league', to name a couple.) It heavily relies on the fact it is a sequel, too, despite not being marketed as one (at least not in the U. K.), leading to some huge leaps in logic which really do take some suspension of disbelief even within the slapstick world that's set-up. Its inoffensive and sometimes fun fluff, but it does get quite tiring once its charm has worn off. 4/10.

Spanish animated kids movie
SnoopyStyle1 September 2021
Sara Lavrof has made a big discovery about King Midas. Tad Jones hasn't seen her in awhile and has yet to reveal his true feelings. She invites him to Vegas for her big reveal. Evil Jack Rackham's gang kidnaps her to force her to find King Midas' secret. Tad needs to rescue her. He's joined by the Mummy and Sara's assistant Tiffany Maze.

This is a Spanish animated kids movie. The animation is fine for TV. It's a wacky adventure. I didn't see the first movie and it's perfectly fine. It's not the best but it's passable. The characters are somewhat fun. I like Tad but the Mummy can be a bit too much. The love triangle is lightweight but that fits the tone. The adventure is a series of set pieces and pieces of a collar. It's a lot of McGuffin which is also fine. This is a lot fine.

The animation is OK, apart from the dubbing
Ckn4810 September 2022
A live action foreign movie is too difficult to refilm but I have great admiration for a good dubbing job. Not only is the dubbing of this movie sloppy, but reanimating is eminently possible & easy enough to do, especial when they are trying to sell to a foreign market like the english speaking market. Therefore the dubbing is eminently sloppy.

Subsequently my little boy then asks impossible questions about a questionable plot where they are trying to turn a fable into a plot for a movie and add plot line which makes no sense.

So as a Dad im stuck trying to explain that cartoons lie, all the time.

The Plot is Full of holes The Script is ok The sound is ok The CGI & Dubbing is sloppy The Acting is ok

Its OK for kids 👍 but because of the sloppy plot you might have to explain why the movie deviates from the fable.

Not a keeper.

Surprisingly entertaining
Paradroid7810 February 2018
Reading the reviews in this in national newspapers, you'd think it was one of the worst films you could possibly see, but I saw it with my 6 year old today and all I can say is those reviews have either not actually watched the film or are biased against European cartoons for some reason. We liked enough to look up the other "Tad The Lost Explorer" on our streaming service when we got back from the cinema.

It's a breath of fresh air from the usual Disney and Dreamworks output and is entertaining for all the family (I laughed at a few parts, which is something I really appreciate in a cartoon) basically being "Indiana Jones for a younger audience", which is perfect if you want to introduce your children to that kind of genre before they're old enough to watch those live action movies.

Tad the Lost Explorer, and why is this name so long
Kamurai2513 June 2020
Decent enough watch, can't say I'd ever watch it again, and can only recommend to a younger audience.

This is half "ugh, a kids movie", and half "man, this is dark for a kids movie". The opening scene is a murder, there is a undead mummy character, and (for what looks like a Nickelodeon animation) the bad guys are firing guns, and kidnapping characters at threat of life.

That said the animation and writing isn't so bad, and the characters are interesting, if annoying. The whole thing also feels like a Happy Madison plot where "schlubby guy" wins over a successful, beautiful woman.

There just isn't a lot here to get behind, but its got just enough to be entertaining.

Maybe it just wasn't for me.

A pleasant family film, well worth a watch.
pr6515 February 2018
A pleasant family film, and well worth a watch. A little scary in parts and might suit children 7-8 years and above, but nothing terrible. Certainly an action packed film that holds the attention throughout. An undead 'Mummy' character provides light relief and quite a lot of comedy, as do the animal characters. The central characters are like-able, the 'baddies' suitably bad. My children were riveted throughout and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fun film. Recommended!

A fun for the whole family sequel
mariasoledadade25 June 2020
I first recommend that you watch the original Tad the explorer as it will help understand the back story and the characters of this movie better. My 4 year old loved both movies and has watched them countless times. The story is funny and entertaining for both kids and adults alike. A breath of fresh air in the cookie cutter industry that kids cartoons seem to have become. Tad is a construction worker who has always dreamed of being a famous explorer and by dumb luck he achieves his dreams and through hard work he is getting his archeology degree and also gets the girl, all while going through hilarious hijinks with the funniest crew, and eventually saving the day.

This film told me the meaning of life and opened my mind in such a way that I don't even have to use the toilet

I cried for days when Tad couldn't find Midas.

Always funny!
joaoialima313 March 2019
I read the Condorito's comics since 1996 (I'm 56...). Differently from Mafalda (Argentina) or Mônica (Brasil), Condorito is a true Latin American character. It's simple, funny, without unnecessary complexities. The movie mix Star Trek with Indiana Jones in a very funny way. I loved it!
