For the past week, professional wrestling has occupied the apex of the entertainment industry.
That’s a sentence that might have been unthinkable 10 years ago, when the art form that began as a carnival act in the 1800s before evolving into a multi-billion dollar scripted sports industry was seen by many as an unsophisticated (if endlessly profitable) laughingstock. But a recent influx in critically acclaimed storytelling, major international free agents, and behind-the-scenes disruption has given the wrestling business a shot of adrenaline that turned it into must-see TV in the 2020s.
Years of rapidly accelerating momentum built to a head during the first week in April, when America’s two biggest wrestling promotions, World Wrestling Entertainment and All Elite Wrestling, pulled the trigger on some of their longest-gestating storylines to produce some electrifying television. It began on Sunday night, when WWE’s longtime champion Roman Reigns finally saw his villainous...

This Star Wars Jedi: Survivor article contains spoilers.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor visits several classic locations from throughout the saga as well as a few new ones, including the hidden planet of Tanalorr, the place all the different factions in the game are trying to use for their own gain. At one point, Cal Kestis and his allies visit Coruscant, the dangerous capital of the Galactic Empire, but that’s hardly the most noteworthy callback in the game — after all, the planet has featured prominently across three Disney+ series in just the last year, most recently on The Mandalorian season 3.
But then there’s the other major blast from the past in the game: the desert moon of Jedha, which we first visited in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In that movie, we follow Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, and K-2So as they navigate Jedha City, which has...

This Star Wars Jedi: Survivor contains spoilers.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series turned out to be a bit of a mixed bag last year. On one hand, the series retconned established Star Wars lore and made Obi-Wan fight Darth Vader before the Death Star duel, despite previous canon strongly suggesting they hadn’t crossed lightsabers since Mustafar. On the other hand, the show introduced an excellent concept that demonstrated regular people were willing to fight against the Empire, even before the Rebel Alliance was founded. And Star Wars Jedi: Survivor not only brings that concept back but also sets up how this secretive organization might appear in a future game.
Much of Jedi: Survivor revolves around the hidden planet of Tanalorr, which is cut off from the rest of the galaxy due to a space anomaly. The game follows characters racing against each other to reach Tanalorr, including protagonist Cal Kestis,...

Soon after the Warner Bros. Discovery merger was finalized, CEO David Zaslav said that he believed that his new company’s future lay in a pivot away from the now subsided streaming boom and back towards movie theaters, and his latest earnings call comments suggest that he is even more adamant in this direction.
On Thursday, Zaslav spoke about Warner Bros.’ recent strategy to move films greenlit under previous CEO Jason Kilar’s leadership for exclusive release on HBO Max to an exclusive release in theaters before going to the streaming service. The executive said that after analyzing streaming metrics on HBO Max with the service’s chief content officer Casey Bloys, they found that releasing films as streaming exclusives did not provide any return on investment.

Showing the ongoing costs of combining two large media companies in a rapidly shifting industry, Warner Bros. Discovery reported a net loss of $2.1 billion on Thursday, or 86 cents per share, for the fourth quarter of 2022. The figure included $1.2 billion in pre-tax restructuring expenses and an acquisition-related write-down of $1.85 billion.
Revenue for the quarter came in at $11 billion, down 11% on a pro-forma combined basis compared to the same period a year ago. Analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research were expecting a loss of three cents per share on revenue of $11 billion.
“Last year was a year of restructuring, 2023 will be a year of building. And off we go,” Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav told analysts on the company’s earnings call. “We have a great hand and we’re doing a lot right. That said, there’s still more that we need to get right and we are hard at work.

Review Natchathiram Nagargiradhu holds an unflinching mirror to how caste, class, gender and sexuality are used to protect endogamy in romance.Bharathy SingaravelCourtesy/TrailerScreengrabCan love be ‘universal and pure’? Is desire as easy as being drawn towards another? Or are all our interactions inherently political? Director Pa Ranjith’s Natchathiram Nagargirathu rips open trite definitions of romance, laying bare the darkness and absurdities that lie beneath. Set in Puducherry, with Dushara Vijayan, Kalaiarasan and Kalidas Jayaram in lead roles, the film holds an unflinching mirror to how caste, class, gender and sexuality are used to bestow or revoke the validity of romantic love between people. Dushara, Kalai and Kalidas play theatre actors with a small troupe. The film sets off with the troupe trying to decide what their next play is going to be about. Discussions turn to each of their interpretations of love and desire, and very soon, conflict slips in.

The fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins by Alec Baldwin last week on the Santa Fe set of Rust wasn’t the first time First Assistant Director David Hills worked on a film where a weapon discharged unexpectedly.
Back in late 2019, a gun went off on the Arkansas set of Freedom’s Path, where Halls was an Ad. The incident caused a member of the Rocket Soul Studios-produced movie’s sound department to jump back from the close-by blast.
“First of all, our condolences go out to everyone affected by the recent tragic event in New Mexico,” said one of the producers of Freedom’s Path to Deadline today.
“I can confirm that Dave Halls was fired from the set of Freedom’s Path in 2019 after a crew member incurred a minor and temporary injury when a gun was unexpectedly discharged,” he added. “Halls was removed from set immediately after the prop gun discharged.
