Fake Northeast and silly fable
guisreis14 February 2022
The most artificial and unconvincing representation of Brazilian Northeastern hinterland possible. Off course a film does not need to be realistic, but director's poetic or fable-like proposal is simply neither interesting nor moving. Nathalia Dill and Emílio Orciollo are not bad actors, but they are not appropriate casting for that setting either. Text is boring, alternating between silly and pretentious. The gag attempts are often embarassing. Clownish Micuim is sometimes annoying. The movie becomes nicer only in the few moments when pimp and prostitute played by Roberto Bomtempo and Paula Burlamaqui appear together (Burlamaqui and Dill together, however, have terrible dialogues). Perhaps the most irritating element is the portrayal of adults from hinterland as if they were children; there is a lot of prejudice hidden behind supposed idealization of humble sinlessness.
