At first, I was wondering how are they going to keep the fans of the movies interested while making the show stand out as though not to compare it so much to the franchise. The first thing they've done is focus on social media as they used youtube to upload a video that went viral, and spoke of facebook, twitter, and instagram. Almost everyone of mixed generations are using social media to connect and share just about everything in their lives. So, what better way to make the show uniquely their own than to have the students and whoever the killer(s) are use social media to connect on a daily basis? This way it allows the killer(s) to remain hidden even in plain sight as they pick out their victims.
What I enjoy doing is noticing the subtle differences they use between what they say in the movies versus what they say on the show. A few examples for instance, we all know the famous catch phrase in the movies "Do you like scary movies?" and "I want to know who I'm looking at. I want to know who I'm talking too." and "What door am I at?" Where in there TV show they say, "What are you doing home tonight? Watching some TV?" and "You do look tired. You sound tired." and "What you should really be asking is Did you just lock me in or out?" This way we can relate to the version of the movies while allowing the show to stand out on their own.
The main focus on the show seems to be allowing the viewers constantly guess who the killer(s) is/are as we slowly get to know each characters personality. As the character Noah has mentioned, Everyone lies. Everyone has secrets. And everybody are suspects because they all have their own motive. This is what makes the show a great horror mystery filled with potential bloody crime/murder scenes!
