Liv (Rose McIver) mentions a Take Back the Night seminar. Take Back the Night was a program run at Hearst College in Veronica Mars (2004), another series created by Rob Thomas.
Blaine (David Anders) is presented a sampler of 'braised cerebellum a la Grenoble' (sic) that has an egg-yolk-yellow sauce and pomegranate arils. The brains are shaped like cerebrum, lacking the parallel striations of cerebellum. 'A la Grenoble' is a browned butter sauce with capers, parsley and lemon slices. A minion reaches for the food and Blaine says, "Brains are for closers", mimicing the famous " Coffee's for closers only." line in Glengarry Glen Ross (1992).
Aly Michalka (who plays Peyton Charles but does not appear in this episode) and Ben Cotton (one of Blaine's henchmen) have known each other for several years, prior to appearing in "iZombie" (2015) since they both previously appeared together in "Hellcats" (2010).
Brain Food:
- "Brain Chirashi" - Liv (Rose McIver) has brains on white rice with Sriracha.
- "Spicy green brain smoothie" - Blaine (David Anders) blends brain with kale and hot peppers into a smoothie.
- "Cerebellum a la Grenoble" and "Medulla oblongata stuffed gnocchi in a fried Diablo sauce" - Cissie (at Meat Cute) makes braised cerebellum a la Grenoble, and medulla oblongata stuffed gnocchi in a fried Diablo sauce "with pure neural tissue to give it a silky texture".
