Beautiful movie that has challenges
billy_dana4 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This film starts strong. It's beautifully filmed, the acting for the most part is very strong, the writing is clean and crisp - there is very little to complain about technically. I also really like the way the primary relationship in the story grows and develops. The two characters are very different, and those differences help fuel some outstanding moments of exchange between the two principal characters.

Having said all that the film seems to peter out at the end! The lead character is in conflict with himself, but the way story just seems to sputter to an end is frustrating. No, not all stories have to end with a bow, no doubt - but this seems to just awkwardly terminate.

I still highly recommend the story, and I look forward to this director's next effort - very much worth watching.

The director was as lost as the main Character
bisslestefan2 December 2020
Well, there is not a single likeable main character, which isn't required for a movie to be "good" but is necessary when the story is drenched in self-pity and a narcissistic main character.

The entire film has two well done scenes. Bruno with his grandfather, Toto, in the car and Bruno with his wife in the tent.

A Marco Berger-esque film that lacks... something
Oblivion1412 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The pace, tone, and ambience the film reminds me of Marco Berger's films (Hawaii and Plan B are two of my most favorite LGBT-themed films). It has the same tensely homoerotic cinematography + natural sounds. Though it's kinda ruined by the lack of chemistry between the leads.

Still, I very much enjoyed 90% of the film.

What ruined it for me was the ending. It was very unsatisfying. Worse, it felt forced. Like they ran out of time or something. There was no real reason why it ended that way.

for a specific public
Kirpianuscus6 September 2021
It is just that kind of film proposing to send its message to a precise public. The story, the cinematography, the characters, the acting to are the clues in that sense. And it is not a problem of sexual option here. It is unfair to define it as a bad film but its proposition is only a fist of emotions. Maybe, it can not be the convincing film who you expect or deserve. But, obvious, it is a beautiful one, maneristic in some measure, cheesy in other, too sentimental or unrealistic or obscure. But, in essence, honest.

Pretty good. Deserved a higher rating than the 2/5 it got on Netflix.

Warning: Spoilers
The movie was paced very well. Started out soft, calm, with warm lighting and very little music. It progressed very naturally, and I enjoyed the ride.

My biggest issue with this movie is the child actor. The kid was basically mumbling the entire time, and he delivered his lines flatly. Maybe that was the intention, but it was frustrating. However, Daniela Ramírez was excellent. Francisco and Emilio were great, and had a wonderful chemistry together.

Overall this movie was decent. Not perfect, but not horrible. I didn't like the ending because I'm a hopeless romantic and wanted the two to get together, but I can appreciate it for its realness. Sometimes life doesn't work out the way you want.

Deliberately-paced film.
laduqesa3 May 2023
At first I thought I'd be switching off because I'd thought the action was too slow. However, Bruno's work and relationship travails brought his life into sharp focus in a neat and compelling story.

Once Bruno and Fernando met, it was inevitable what would happen but we didn't know how. Bruno had more complications in his life what with a wife and son.

The introduction of the grandfather and his advice was a deft move. Good counselling and acceptance.

I loved Fer's challenge to bisexual Bruno, "You have the privilege of making a choice so make it" - we know that Fer didn't. Unlike others, I loved the ambiguous ending. I'd have hated a happy-ever-after finale just as much as a pessimistic one.

A Long Bridge to Cross
derrickluciano9 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Usually, an individual will find his sexuality black and white, but for some people like Bruno, it's "in the grayscale".

Bruno, a successful married architect with one kid, is struggling internally and opted to separate temporarily from wife to stay at his grandpa's house, while doing design work (a monument building project) for his client. He meets Fer, his tour guide who showed him some building concept ideas around the city. Then, he starts to explore his hidden sexuality. Throughout the film, we become a voyeur and see his loneliness, confusion and his indecision, consequently affecting the people around him.

A number of gay themed films have tackled sexual confusion/ambiguity. This one works quite well as a moderately-paced film, just allowing characters to develop. Music is minimal, you can hear only some ambient bar music. Natural acting among the main leads: we love Bruno's talking eyes and restrained acting and we celebrate Fer's openly gay persona. Most of the characters here are imperfect but understanding people we see everyday.

It's the director's debut feature film, and award-winning at that. Highly recommended.

I can sympathize with Bruno since he was brought up dreaming of only "romantic tales between a man and a woman." His bridge is a long one to cross. And when he gets there, we hope that it would be a more meaningful and happier place than where he is now.

OH DEAR, I'M CONFUSED
BILLYBOY-1024 March 2020
Here I go again, the only one who thinks this was really quite boring story of a young guy who needs time away from his wife and young son so the director of the film can make overlong shot of him sleeping in the nude in his cot with the sheets strategically placed over his buttocks and this his homosexual awakening with his uncannily unattractive...actually ugly...side-kick who is very clever and street-wise and witty and together. Ugh. I found this movie plodding and cinematically pretentious what with all the longing semi-nude shots as I mentioned. I didn't find a single original, redeeming thing about it. Not very happy as I usually find South American films (e.g. The Blonde One) very satisfying.

cute modern day love story from Chile
ksf-219 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
BIG OL SPOILERS *** We're shown the basic premise right at the start of the film... Bruno is separating from his wife. Then he's off to Santiago to meet with a tour guide, who will show him around. And of course there is his son. Somehow, he ends up at a gay bar ostensibly after a work event, but of course he bumps into Fer, the guide, who tells him he's gay and that's his bar. We are shown some foreshadowing when Fer says "I hate happy endings!" This moves pretty slowly, which I don't usually mind; movies that move quite slow are very relaxing, and give you time to think. A study of fluid relationships. Obviously, if Bruno was already leaving his wife, there was clearly something already troubling him; Fer puts the moves on Bruno, and after resisting at first, they get together. An annoying few minutes where they director has the camera jump around, as we seem to be peeking in on their fun. Then, of course, things blow up with the wife after Bruno is spotted kissing Fer in public. Produced and directed by Claudio Marcone. Not much information about him on IMDb, but this seems to be his only film project so far. Written by Rodrigo Norero. Not much info about him either. I wonder if this was his own story. Contains nudity and almost explicit sex scenes, so this one is not for the kiddies. Showing on netflix. Overall, an excellent film. We observe the awkwardness and un-ease we all feel when we experience new things, or even just the confusion of not knowing what we really want. Interesting that at the very end, the wife admits rejoicing when she discovers that the husband isn't perfect. I'm surprised that this has such a low rating as of today... would have expected it to be higher. it deserves a higher rating, and look forward to more from this team.

ok but...

Warning: Spoilers
Yeah... like one person said the movie grows as it goes along. The acting wasn't bad. The actors easy on the eyes. But I have to say the ending was very disappointing. There was no closure it really didn't end. Not at all satisfying one way or the other. Other wise I enjoyed the movie.

A film that grows in depth as it goes!
amheba4 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This film begins as an apparently typical adult-married-man-coming out movie. But as it progresses it grows in depth and treats a topic, in my experience, seldom seen as the center point of a film. What happens when you're not 100% sure about what you want in life and everyone around you seem to expect it? At some point of the film I begun antagonizing the main character because he was hurting the people around him, but in the end I felt very reflected in him because rarely in life are we sure of what we want and that is also his dilemma.

Overall I found the film enjoyable, with a nice cinematography, great acting and left me thinking. Refreshing to watch a gay themed movies which are also interesting. My thumbs up!

Solid Film
derrickagreen29 January 2024
The stills are a little misleading, so it may not end the way you think it will.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this one. The acting was really well done, and I'm always surprised just how much better South American lgbtq films are than American.

You will absolutely fall in love with the Fer character, played by Emilio Edwards. I think that's the whole point, but who wouldn't really?!? He's adorable!

It covers a common theme of gay/closeted movies, but it is done tastefully, and doesn't beat you over the head with it.

The locations is gorgeous.

I would definitely check this one out...
