I recently discovered Turkish series and already watched Kara Sevda and Kardesim Benim by Burak Ozcivit. I enjoyed those some what.
Now, aside from the fact that he is handsome, I think he is fairly decent actor, good voice control and can cry on the spot (seems to be important in Turkish screens). Same can not be said for Fahriye Evcen, lovely, gorgeous and obviously a model, she can not act. Her reactions are over the top, and her voice just comes off as "theatrical" in every scene, almost as if she is in a parody or a parody of her real self. She needs more coaching and better direction. There is a scene in the beginning where she is surprised and falls to the ground is cringe worthy.
As for the movie; the story line is simple, boy meets girl, falls in love, girl has a secret etc, etc. If you are in for a romantic movie, it's a perfect plot. However, the scenes leading the couple falling in love are to few and pretty weak. There are holes in the plot you can drive a semi-trailer through. It is endless closeups of the two actors. Past the love story there is the return of the "evil ex". Again, not enough plot, to build something with this story line either.
The point of the movie is confusing:
If the movie is about their love; there is not enough plot to support that
If the movie is about the evil ex and her true identity; there is nowhere near enough to support that plot either
The movie is 1h45m long and everything happens in the last 10 mins. Viewers need a bit more story telling than that.
Additionally, I didn't find her singing very charming. It is so high pitched that its uncomfortable. But this is a Turkish thing, once you are beautiful and popular, they will get you singing. There are many examples of that in Turkish entertainment industry. I strongly feel, she should avoid that trap and be discouraged on the singing. It cheapens the already amateurish acting.
Finally, the end is almost laughable. (spolier alert) Burak Ozcivit's character dies but leaves a teary eyed widow and a child behind... Now where have we seen that before??
What happens to the evil ex, how he dies? how she survives? all loose ends. If it's supposed to be intriguing to the viewer, it really isn't. It just looks rushed and lazy
Really boring movie and really boring end.
Beautiful scenery in a charming Turkish coast, and that kind of makes up for wasting 1h45m of my life (almost)
Here is my personal take on the "reason" for this film being made; I know this couple is well loved and respected in Turkey. I also think they are adorable. They met in a series called Calikusu and made this movie just after that. It is made by Burak Ozcivits production company and I think he wanted to have a project with her and rushed into this one to keep her close. As this is the movie where the actors fell in love and eventually got married. Good for them!
We love a good celebrity marriage and movie projects, but please make better movies, find better story lines. Fahriye, get some more acting lessons, and please don't sing - let professionals take on the singing. You are doing fine without the singing.
