HBO and HBO Max will be home to new original films, highly anticipated streaming debuts of new releases, and the finales of three popular series throughout February. Below, we’ve assembled a complete list of everything new on HBO and HBO Max in February 2022, and it includes a new thriller from director Steven Soderbergh and starring Zoe Kravitz called “Kimi.” The original feature takes place in a Covid-19 pandemic Seattle and follows an agoraphobic tech worker who discovers violent crimes have occurred in a data stream. The Max Original film premieres on Feb. 10.
Also coming in February is the “Raised by Wolves” Season 2 premiere on Feb. 3, with new episodes released weekly, as well as the season premiere of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” on Feb. 20. And coming to a close in February are the original series “Euphoria,” “And Just Like That…” and “Peacemaker,” which all air finales this month.

For its list of new releases of February 2022, HBO Max is bringing back one of its biggest original series.
The Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi epic Raised by Wolves helped launch HBO Max back in 2020 and now it’s finally back for another season. Raised by Wolves season 2 premieres with three episodes on Feb. 3. This season will continue the conflict between future atheists and theists on a remote planet, while two androids raise some kids.
February 2022 also sees the end of another, more recent HBO Max hit. Peacemaker airs its finale on Feb. 17. Thankfully that same day sees the premiere of another exciting original. Dream Raider is a Mandarin-language sci-fi thriller that carries some big Inception vibes.
There aren’t many original movies of note this month, but there are a lot of recent hits coming to HBO Max as library titles. Nightmare Alley arrives on Feb. 1, followed by The Many Saints of Newark on Feb.

Just as there have been many spooky villains in Hammer movies over the years, there have also been many protagonists who protect our world from unholy horrors. Having appeared in several British serials and three movies, Professor Bernard Quatermass is one such hero, and Legendary and Hammer are teaming up with David Farr for a new movie featuring the classic character.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Farr, has "been tapped" to pen Quatermass, a new film for Legendary and Hammer. Produced by Simon Oakes of Hammer Films, the movie is viewed as a remake and will be supervised by Jon Silk and Jay Ashenfelter for Legendary.
Plot details are unknown at this time, but previous Quatermass serials and movies from the 1950s and ’60s often pitted Quatermass against extraterrestrial beings that threaten Earth, so perhaps we could see visitors from the stars paying the scientist a visit in the new film.

If you want something done right, give it to actor Zahn McClarnon to do. That's the logical conclusion to draw coming out of this week's episode of Westworld, titled "Kiksuya" – and the series' best hour by a considerable margin. For once, the show's annoyances (easy escapes, constant pointless bickering, those damn orchestral alt-rock cover versions) aren't enough to overwhelm the material of real value. It took one of its most underutilized cast members, placed him at the center of a storyline that directly addressed the series' sci-fi conceit but combined...

Screen canvasses industry opinion on Langan’s tenure and the prospects for one of the UK’s cornerstone funders.
There have been warm tributes to Christine Langan as news broke yesterday of her impending departure from BBC Films to join UK production outfit Baby Cow.
Attention is also now beginning to turn to who is likely to be her successor and what plans the BBC has for its film arm in the long run.
“Christine leaves BBC Films in good shape,” commented producer Stewart Mackinnon of Headline Pictures, who worked with the broadcaster’s film arm on titles including Quartet and The Invisible Woman, among other projects.
Pride producer David Livingstone noted Langan’s “incisiveness.”
“The thing I remember particularly about Christine is her giving very good notes about the final editing of the film (Pride). She was very clear and very precise, and with a light hand on the tiller,” Livingstone said.

No matter how in control and successful someone becomes in their career and personal relationships, they often start to want more when they witness the seemingly perfect lives of their peers. Many people tend to become envious of their neighbors’ contrasting personality traits, even if their circumstances aren’t necessarily better than their own, and they’re going through a similar situation. That’s certainly the case with the two seemingly prosperous married couples in the new thriller, ‘The Ones Below.’ The spouses become overwhelmed by something they all thought they wanted throughout their at-times tumultuous relationships that after they meet, they begin envying each other’s seemingly perfect lives. Tenser and queasier than your average thriller, The Ones Below finds two soon-to-be parents living in a flat above another expecting couple, an improbable scenario that turns even more improbably tragic and horrific. Parenthood is both a blessing and a curse, and writer-director David Farr captures both sides, stretching the creepy-neighbor tension to its breaking point throughout. It’s almost exhausting watching the high-strung domestic drama play out, with nary a moment of respite to cling onto, but Farr’s evocative use of lighting, editing and sound can at times provide something else to ponder should moments of the story prove too intense to stomach.

New parents get potentially deadly new neighbors in The Ones Below, the feature film directorial debut of David Farr (AMC’s The Night Manager, Hanna). With The Ones Below coming out in theaters and on VOD today, we recently caught up with Farr, who discussed working with David Morrissey (The Governor on The Walking Dead), the inspiration behind his new film, and much more.
David, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, and congratulations on your fantastic new film, The Ones Below. How did you come up with the idea for your latest movie? Is this is a story that you’ve been thinking about for a long time?
David Farr: The film was inspired by a conversation I had in 2011 with a great friend about the anxiety of parenting. I was directing him in a Harold Pinter play at the time. We both have children.

The Ones Below sounds like a serious horror film, and though it wants to call itself a thriller, it’s really something without a comfortable genre home… but, it has a bit in common with horror theories.
The story revolves around Kate (Clémence Poésy) and Justin (Stephen Campbell Moore), who are expecting a baby. They’re a more or less standard couple, who are fairly well off, and their life is offered up as “that which you can relate to.” The ins and outs of their existence moves along a familiar track.
Their one problem is that they live in a two-story flat, and new people move in downstairs. Thus, the ones below. Jon (David Morrissey) and Teresa (Laura Birn) are said ones below, and they are expecting as well.

Properly moody, The Ones Below brews up a strong cup of neighborly paranoia. It's a familiar story. Kate (Clémence Poésy) and Justin (Stephen Campbell Moore) live in a lovely flat in a lovely building in a lovely London suburb. Kate is pregnant and they couldn't be happier. They live upstairs and are curious about their new downstairs neighbors, Theresa (Laura Birn) and Jon (David Morrissey). Their impressions are generally positive as far as the somewhat tremulous Theresa is concerned. She too is pregnant, though she is quite anxious about it, since she and her husband have already suffered through unsuccessful attempts to have children. Kate and Justin invite the couple upstairs for a meal, where they finally meet the bombastic Jon. Theresa starts sneaking alcohol,...

Never has breastfeeding looked so sinister. In our exclusive clip from The Ones Below, exhausted new mother Clémence Poésy asks her downstairs neighbor Laura Birn to watch her infant son. The summer has arrived — at least if you’re going by Hollywood’s calendar. Our comprehensive preview for all four months will give you a hint as to what we most anticipate — but, for a more in-depth look, today we have our first monthly feature of the season. It should be noted that theatrical re-releases of the Jean-Luc Godard classic Band of Outsiders and Eiichi Yamamoto‘s animation, Belladonna of Sadness, both arriving on May 6th, as well as Fritz Lang‘s Destiny (on May 20th), are essential.
Getting to the new features, perhaps our most-anticipated studio release of the entire summer arrives, along with some of our festival favorites from the last year. To those lamenting the lack of superhero films: we figured it was best not to waste the space, as they are certainly already on your radar if you’re planning to buy a ticket. Check out...

In The Huntsman: Winter’s War and The Ones Below, unspeakable deeds are done by women driven crazy by the loss of a child. Decades of movies suggest they are incapable of rational grief, while men are let off the hook in the heroic pursuit of revenge
Here’s a 36-year-old spoiler. The villain in Friday the 13th is not Jason, presumed dead after drowning aged 10, now back from the ashes and mad as hell. Rather it’s his mother, Pamela, a summer camp cook who grief has turned bloodthirsty. While her son, alongside stablemates Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and Norman Bates, is afforded complicated psychological motivation for his later killing sprees, sensibly dressed Mrs Voorhees is just a woman completely unravelled by the loss of her offspring.
This is horror-movie shorthand. It was, after all, shamelessly recycled for Laurie Metcalf’s character in Scream 2. But it is also,...

"You never know your own neighbors..." Fears about your neighbors being psychos turned into a movie, oh how fun. Magnolia Pictures has debuted a new trailer for the thriller The Ones Below, about a new couple expecting their first child that learns something a bit weird is going on with the couple living below them. Clémence Poésy stars, along with a cast including David Morrissey, Stephen Campbell Moore, Laura Birn and Deborah Findlay. This film has been playing at film festivals like Tiff, London and Berlin so it can't be all that bad, but it doesn't look like that much to it from this trailer. Take a look below. Here's the latest official trailer for David Farr's The Ones Below, found direct on YouTube: A couple expecting their first child discover an an unnerving difference between themselves and the couple living in the flat below them who are also having a baby.

Unless we’re talking about his new film or late-70s court documents, nowadays is Polanski hardly named more often than when critics discuss The Ones Below, a thriller supposedly in the vein of his close-quarter thrillers — especially the “Apartment Trilogy” of Repulsion, Rosemary’s Baby, and The Tenant. Flattering, sure, but in turn no small point of comparison — especially in the case of David Farr, who’s making his feature-filmmaking debut.
The writer-director (also of popular British series Mi-5 and Joe Wright’s Hanna) will get to make an impression on U.S. audiences when his movie arrives next month. Acting neighborly has deadly consequences in playwright and theater director David Farr's feature directorial debut “The Ones Below.” A contained thriller with heavy nods to Roman Polanski's "Rosemary's Baby," the movie may not reinvent the wheel, but it has lots of fun playing in a similar sandbox as the horror classic. Read More: Tiff Review: 'Rosemary's Baby'-Esque Thriller 'The Ones Below' Starring Clémence Poésy Starring Clémence Poésy, David Morrissey, Stephen Campbell Moore, and Laura Birn, the story follows a young couple, eagerly awaiting their first child, who become involved in a psychological battle of wills with the tenants in the apartment downstairs. With Susanne Bier bringing his adaptation of John Le Carré's The Night Watchman to BBC primetime, British screenwriter David Farr has been busy behind the camera himself, crafting his directorial debut The Ones Below. A nightmarish upstairs/downstairs simmering suburban thriller, it is an impressive first outing on the big screen for the vastly experienced theatre director. CineVue's Matt Anderson sat down to speak to him about blending European and British tradition, Roman Polanski and making the transition to celluloid.

Occult horror mixed with historical drama to spawn a nightmare folk tale. Self-exiled into the wilderness of 17th-century New England, this settler family’s existence becomes a desperate scrabble for survival, what with a stubbornly pious patriarch, failing crops, sinister livestock and something unholy lurking in the woods. ★★★☆☆ Keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but what about neighbours? If David Farr's impressive debut feature The Ones Below is anything to go by, it might be best to avoid them completely. Having previously penned several episodes of Spooks and jointly scripted Joe Wright's Hanna with Canadian screenwriter Seth Lochhead, the Guildford local tries his hand at directing for the first time along with typically accomplished writing duties. Covering both bases well, he puts a simmering tale of suburban peril on a slow boil, throws in a twist and a turn and conjures up an end product that is certainly gripping but perhaps too open and shut to linger in the mind after its slick ninety minutes are up.

When it comes to the horror genre, there’s a general feeling that to evoke fear from the viewer, there needs to be a touch of supernaturalism to proceedings, to use archetypal antagonists such as ghosts, aliens or zombies as a means of petrifying those indulging in the project. But reality can be a far more

The London upper middle classes are finely dissected in this debut film by David Farr, featuring two couples, both expecting – leading to enormous audience unease
There is a delicious and elegant nastiness in this psychological suspense thriller from British writer-director David Farr, a stage director now making his feature film debut, having already written widely for cinema and television.
The Ones Below is an intimately disturbing nightmare of the upper middle classes, with tinges of melodrama and staginess, entirely appropriate for its air of suppressed psychosis. The north London setting has an interesting and rather retro look — a world where milk gets delivered in glass bottles. It’s the kind of London that Roman Polanski showed us in his 1965 film Repulsion, and the four-way chamber music of dysfunction is a little like Polanski’s 2011 version of Yasmin Reza’s play Carnage.

Making a first film is difficult, but the task becomes even harder when your film evokes the characteristics of one of cinema’s great filmmakers. But for his feature debut, “The Ones Below,” screenwriter and playwright David Farr attempts the feat, and while it doesn’t quite succeed, it’s still well worth the journey. Starring Clémence Poésy, David Morrissey, Stephen Campbell Moore, and Laura Birn, the Polanski-esque thriller centers on Kate and Justin, a young couple who befriend their new, and slightly mysterious, neighbors, Jon and Teresa, that have moved in downstairs. When a baby arrives for Kate and Justin, and a tragedy befalls their new friends, the relationship between the neighbors take on an eerie and sinister dimension. In my review from Tiff, I wrote that while the movie “isn’t a bold new vision on the intersection of parenthood, mental unraveling, and anxiety, it’s a worthy...
