Good enough for the kids
demonweare23 November 2019
Stunning animation and beautiful artwork but a good story concept that suffered poor a script. The pace was all wrong, the dialogue was terrible and the characters had shaky development, and even the voice acting was surprisingly weak.

But a proven concept of skill and talent in art and animation for Haas and Block.

first 5 mins are impressive then it nose dives into bad
Rob-O-Cop29 June 2019
The first 5 mins is clever and cute, visually impressive and inventive, the world from inside an egg, and then it just falls into bog standard badly written tropes about fitting in and finding yourself, crowbarring in problems (don't flap your wings, you should be able to swim even though your feet are claws etc etc) to make a story that isn't really there. The animation was pretty good, especially the light and background scenery, but the over long race scene outstays it's welcome as the animation team run you through every trick they can think of till it became annoying. The A list voice cast failed to engage. I could see what they were going for but they phoned it in, and really the characters on paper weren't that interesting so they didn't have much to work with.

Well below par

I'm no CGI artist, I have no idea how they do it, but some of the scenes in this movie are absolutely beautiful. On my 4k TV it looked real, breathtaking.

Unfortunately that's the end of the good. It's all downhill. The actual bird animations were very very cheap, pardon the pun. In some parts you can clearly see how they couldn't manage to animate what they wanted to so shot a different angle or used shadows. Terrible.

The sound was awful. The music didn't fit. In most movies the music is almost unnoticeable, you don't realise the ambience it's creating, it's part of the movie. Here, it's clunky, as if they only had 2 hours left to throw it in at the end, and no budget left either.

The acting... I'm confused. I know the two main stars can act, but here... It was awful. As if they've walked into the studio, read their lines, and the directors gone "yep, cut, thanks for that." And then all the parts have been shoehorned in, with terrible pauses between lines. No emotion, no timing, no conversation.... Just a collection of clips that don't work together. It doesn't even sound like they're in the same room.

This will never become a classic, it will be in the bargain bucket or the bin.

Swift Birds; Slow-Moving but Graceful Movie
BabelAlexandria28 April 2020
It was nice to see a slow-moving but sweet and interesting topic from an unfamiliar animation studio, LUXX production (which is based in Germany, but apparently the original vocals are in English?). It managed to weave a lot of great information on birds into the plot without forcing it too much. And the French Riviera setting was beautiful, and entirely from the perspective of the birds - humans play only a very marginal role.

Extended cartoon with birds, nothing lasting.
TxMike20 July 2020
It is the French coast, Nice. Manou's egg ends up on the ground and cracked. He manages with his little wings to crawl up a rock and finds a nesting pair of Gulls. Mama Gull takes him under her wing, the pair end up raising this small Swift as if he were a Gull, along with his Gull brother that hatches shortly.

But he can never be a Gull, he can't soar, he eventually accepts his fate and acts like a Swift. His big moment comes when the migratory group encounter bad weather and he leads them to safety.

So, other than a cute cartoon it has a message of acceptance of those who are not like you. And that discarded individuals should not give up, there is a place for everyone if we find our real talents.

It was fun to watch but pretty innocuous. We watched it at home on DVD from our public library.

*Sticks tounge out. "It's a swift thing".
jordanhaney-8904116 April 2020
This was hands down the worst animated movie I've rented at Redbox. I don't know how they managed to get both William Daffoe and Kate Winslet in this movie. The script was garbage. Literally half the script was birds sticking their tounges out at each other and saying "It's a swift thing." The scenery animation was good, but the bird animation was early 2000's work. The first fifteen minutes of the movie has a plot, and then the rest of it barely resembles any plot at all. Don't waste your money or your children's brain cells with this.

Charming family flick 7/10

A lovely little film, had some joyful emotion moments that gave me a fuzzy feeling inside! Loveable characters and good story, CGI was beautiful, slightly let down by inconsistencies, for example the start of the film in the day time the feathers of the gulls looked a little plastic and environments a little empty and yet towards the second half of the film suddenly improves to an amazing standard! Regardless of minor faults I really enjoyed the film and I only watched it to keep my girlfriend happy! Was pleasantly surprised when I ended up enjoying it so much! Defo worth a watch, it's nice to have a lighthearted family film with some deep moments once in a while! Check it out!! 9/10

Good kids movie
TomNorth8760713 March 2020
I really liked the movie and my kids love it. It is maybe not for older ones, but young children really enjoy it. And for me it was no waste of time, great design. I got a great feeling of the cote d'azure. The look is amazing and worth it alone.

Absolutely amazing (spoiler alert)
peyteyyyy3 December 2022
I don't know why people are giving this movie a bad review. This movie is amazing. I watched it and was just like "wow!" One of the best parts was the race. I'm trying not to put spoilers in this review but it has to be honest review. The music was perfect. And it was catchy. It was a very cute movie. A funny part to me is when they were trying to get the eggs back and when Luc was trying to pull the cork off the barrel and Kalifa said "Wow some muscles". The part that was funny to me was when Manou said "huh?" He face was so funny. (The time point is 01:01:51. The funny face is 02:01:55). I just love this movie. I recommend watching it if you have not.

AMAZING
lovemybabylizzy7 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Where do I even begin Swift is one of the best movies ever but obviously it has some issues.

Swift is a really funny and sad and romantic movie. Amazing for all ages, I've Lost count on how many times I've seen Swift, but it has some flaws like how it's a little bit rushed it has too many plot points for how long it is, The funniest part and best part is when Luc says says who that had me laughing so hard, we need a sequel and toys and plushy's for this movie.

I ship so many of the birds but my favorite canon couple is Manou and his girlfriend 10/10 ship. The swifts know how to dance and sing really good. Percy the blue turkey is a amazing character. But to wrap it up swift is a 10/10 movie and would rank higher. -. -Lizzie 💙
