Who is the Mysterious Vampire?
claudio_carvalho19 January 2019
Eph decides to go to Washington expecting to meet an old friend about his research and shaves his hair in disguise. He uses fake documents and travels by train. Eph stumbles upon Dr. Barnes and they fight and Barnes fall of the train. Nora and Dutch meet Justine and negotiate the release of Fet, explaining how to identify the infected one. Setrakian meet Alonzo trying to find the Occido Lumen. The he meets Fitzwilliam tha joins his team. Fet and Dutch team up with the police to help and teach them how to fight the vampires. Meanwhile a mysterious vampire arrives at the airport.

"Quick and Painless" is the best recent episode of "The Strain", with engaging segments. The greatest question is who the mysterious vampire that arrives in New York is. The turbulent travel of Eph is also tense. Fet, Dutch and the poice squad form a great team. My vote is eight.

Still interesting, though casting changes are annoying

The actor who played Zack in the 1st season was engaging and played a likable character. In the 2nd season, his replacement's interpretation of the character isn't at all likable. Of course, the story would need to show changes in the character's personality due to the trauma of seeing his mother as a strigoi, so that needs to be expressed. Still the new actor, Max Charles, isn't as good an actor as the 1st season's Ben Hyland.

Ben Hyland is playing a boy about 10 or 11 years old, while Max Charles comes across as a rebellious 13 or 14 year old teenager. His facial expressions are off-putting and his version of Zack differs greatly from the character that Ben Hyland portrayed in his interpretation of Zack.

The story is staying true to form with the flashbacks being identified as to time period and location. That helps keep the complications manageable. I do like the way the politicians and bureaucrats are shown to be semi-villains as well as being the slimeballs that so many of us see that type of character to be in real life.

I'm enjoying the writing by delToro, knowing that he won't be writing the 3rd season due to the author's disagreement with the showrunner. I haven't bought the 3rd and 4th seasons on dvd for that reason.

Warning: Spoilers
Reaction / Review for The Strain Season 2 Episode 5 (S2. E5): Episode 4 was good and I gave it a rating of 8/10. That vampire kid is too fast, ive never seen such a fast vampire before, what's going on? The police officers think that they need a neck injury to turn into vampires? So dumb. Can they please kill Zach already? He is extemely annoying. Bald Eph looks bad-ass. I think it's about time for the police to learn a few things about killing vampires. So is it official? Reggie is part of the team? That's cool. Palmer and Coco could be a thing? Ew, disgusting. No Eichorst in this episode? That sucks. Overall a good episode, my rating is 8/10.
