- A man focused on his career finds solace when he reunites with his childhood sweetheart.
- Six-year-old Akash lives with his parents (father (Aashish Kaul) and mother (Prachi Shah)) and grandfather (Rishi Kapoor), who is a photographer. Akash and his grand father are best friends and enjoy their life together by playing all kinds of pranks in the small town they live in. Akash's grandfather is also an amateur astrologer and predicts that Akash will fall in love with a girl who lives 500 steps away from their studio, and that they will be in love forever, but won't be able to be together. Akash's grandfather also teaches him how it feels to be in love. Akash takes the 500 steps and finds a tall girl older than him, disappointing him.
Akash (Pulkit Samrat) grows up and falls in love with his classmate Shruti (Yami Gautam), believing that Shruti is the one meant for him. However, Akash leaves Shruti without telling her, to pursue his dreams and moves to the city for higher studies.
In the present, Akash works for a private firm and leads a monotonous life. When he learns that his grandfather's health has worsened, he decides to leave the city & goes back home. He tries to find Shruti but fails. Akash's parents say that his grandfather wanted Akash to return to the town and continue running the photo studio. But Akash is adamant that the small town cannot support his ambitions and that nobody comes to a photo studio in the age of mobile phones. When he finds that his boss (Manoj Joshi) has dismissed him, he rushes back and is asked to secure a big contract for his company if he wants to save his job. Akash has been pursuing a large contract from an American firm for multiple months now. The owner of the firm Mr. Pablo is divorced now, and the company had been acquired by his wife in the divorce proceedings.
Akash travels to Canada to meet Mrs. Pablo, who is the new owner of the company and Akash's new customer. He attends a yoga camp where Mrs. Pablo had enrolled herself, where he becomes friends with Mrs. Pablo and learns that her real name is Akansha (Urvashi Rautela). Akash proceeds to seduce Akansha, without revealing his true purpose.
Akash also meets Shruti there, who behaves like a tomboy. At first Shruti says that her name is Anjali and refuses to recognize Akash. Akash remembers how he first saw Shruti in his hometown, playing in the streets, exactly 500 feet from the photo studio. Shruti and Akash studied in the same school and Shruti always got jealous when he spoke to other girls in their class. Akash pretends to be in love with Akansha to secure the contract, but he and Shruti fall in love with each other again. It is also revealed that Akansha is none other than the tall girl that Akash met in his childhood.
Akash is again left heartbroken when Shruti leaves at the end of the camp, saying that they can't be together. She still won't admit or accept that she is the same girl from Akash's hometown who studied with him in school.
Akash tells Akansha the truth that he was pretending to be in love with her for a contract. He then accepts Akansha as a friend and refuses to do any business with her. Akash goes back to his office to resign, but is retained by his boss, when the entire office staff revolts and threatens to quit if Akash is let go.
Akansha visits Akash in his office and says that she has fallen in love with him. Akansha gives the contract of her new firm to Akash. Akansha also offers to help Akash find Shruti and they travel the country together to locate her. Akash goes to his hometown and again walks the 500 steps from his photo shop. He stops a few feet ahead of Akansha's house, as his feet are bigger now. To Akash's surprise, he finds Shruti in the house he stops in front of.
Akash realizes Shruti still loves him and embarks on a journey to find the truth behind her rejection. He finds Shruti hugging another person and confronts him. That person turns out to be Shruti's doctor and Akash learns that she left him because she is suffering from a rare heart disease; she will die if her heart isn't transplanted soon.
A few months later, Shruti moves out of the hospital, healthy and cured. In order to be with Akash, she moves to the city to find him and is left shocked and heartbroken when she learns that she survived because Akash donated his heart to her. Then she goes on to open the studio of Akash's grandfather and hangs the wood where "Aakash loves Shruti" was written by both of them during their childhood. The film ends with a snap of Akash's grandfather, taken by Shruti, in their studio.
