It was pretty much exactly a year since the first film when this sequel came out. It's a German movie, runs like the first film for roughly 95 minutes and is based on a children's book. But there are some differences too. first of all, it's a different director this time, second of all there are new antagonists and third of all, unfortunately, this film is inferior to the first in terms of the story and the star-studded cast could not make up for this. It says a lot about the popularity of children's films right now if you read the names of Karoline Herfurt, Katharina Thalbach, Moritz Bleibtreu, Henry Hübchen, Annette Frier and Ronald Zehrfeld here, all actors who belong to the best and most known Germany currently has.

In terms of the two child actors, they both did a solid job, but I preferred the more subtle approach of Juri Winkler this time. It will be interesting to see how their careers are going when this franchise is over. A third movie is happening too and it will come out in May next year already. really short breaks they are taking. The director for that one will be Neele Leana Vollmar again, who also made the first film, so I hope they can improve again after this second movie did not really impress me. It was a bit of an adventure when the two title characters tried to help Rico's mother who got blackmailed by Thalbach's character who is the main antagonist together with her son (played by Bleibtreu) this time. The plot sadly really wasn't credible, it was also all about the adventure and this film lacked some heart in my opinion. The only scene I quite liked was early on when Rico tells Oscar that he really missed him. The storyline with Oskar's father was a failed attempt of bringing heart into the story. Apart from the very end, they did not elaborate on this one at all and yet it seemed such a major plot story after Oskar cries early on. All in all, I do not recommend this film, but you can decide for yourself depending on how much you liked the first film.
