– “3-D Auteurs,” a 19-day, 34-film festival spotlighting stereoscopic movies by some of history’s most distinguished directors, will run at Film Forum November 11 – 29. The festival spans 3-D’s earliest days (including some turn-of-the-century films by pioneer Georges Méliès) to the present, and represents virtually every genre, including Westerns, Film Noir, and Science Fiction. Hollywood’s first big 3-D craze (sometimes called 3-D’s “golden era”), intended to offset the threat of television, came in the early 1950s, with such movies as Hitchcock’s “Dial M For Murder,” André De Toth’s “House of Wax” and Jack Arnold’s “Creature From the Black Lagoon” (all included in the series).
Hollywood produced roughly 50 movies in the process from 1952 to 1954, before fizzling out and being overtaken by...

Israel Cárdenas and Laura Amelia Guzmán romance from the Dominican Republic won the Best Fiction Feature prize at the 2015 trinidad+tobago film festival (ttff) awards ceremony.
Best Documentary Feature went to Aleksandra Maciuszek’s Casa Blanca, which also earned a special mention for artistic merit from the Amnesty International Human Rights Prize jury.
In the Trinidad and Tobago film categories, Sean Hodgkinson’s Trafficked took Best Fiction Feature, while Kim Johnson’s Re-percussions: An African Odyssey won Best Documentary Feature.
The People’s Choice Award for Best Narrative Feature went to Joanne Johnson’s local title Sally’s Way as Antigua’s Vanishing Sail by Alexis Andrews took corresponding documentary honours.
The prize for best project at the first ever Caribbean Film Mart went to Kidnapping Inc from Haiti by Gaethan Chancy, Bruno Mourral and Raoul Peck. The festival ran from September 15-29.

Karolina Bielawska’s Call Me Marianna was the big winner at this year’s Krakow Film Festival (May 31 - June 7) with four awards, including the International Documentary Competition’s main prize, the Golden Horn, and the Audience Award
Bielwaska’s film about a man’s decision to undergo gender reassignment also picked up the Maciej Szumowski Award for remarkable social awareness, funded by the National Broadcasting Council; and Polish Audiovisual Producers Chamber of Commerce’s Award for the Best Short and Documentary Films Producer in Poland to producer Zbigniew Domagalski of Studio Filmowe Kalejdoskop.
The International Documentary Competition jury, headed by Wieland Speck of the Berlinale’s Panorama, remarked on the “sensitive, intense and complex portrayal of a brave approach to life”.
