- April stays positive as tests are run on her baby; Dr. Herman plans a crash course in fetal surgery; Callie and Owen encourage each other to return to the dating scene; Bailey, Meredith and Maggie try to learn more about a patient's tumor.
- We're talking about loneliness as Meredith lays in bed alone, Arizona lays in bed alone, Dr. Herman is going into an MRI machine alone. Alex isn't meeting Meredith's need for a friend as he ignores her text while he's having sex with Jo, and Meredith is dying for company. She coaxes Bailey into scrubbing in on a surgery with her on a 51-year-old woman named Adrian.
Arizona is testing April and Jackson's baby. At the same time, Amelia is trying to convince Dr. Herman of how confident she is in her ability to remove Herman's brain tumor.
Jackson tells April he thinks they should terminate their pregnancy if the baby has Type 2 O.I. instead of Type 3. She wants to keep it regardless.
In surgery, Meredith, Bailey and Jo run into a tumor so massive and widespread they literally have no idea how to handle it.
Callie teases Hunt when a representative for some medical device seems to be coming on to him.
Dr. Herman is fired up about a stack of difficult fetus problems that she's bringing to Seattle from all over the country so that she can give Arizona her crash course.
Amelia tries to explain her plan to operate on Dr. Herman's brain tumor, but the residents don't seem to be getting it.
Meanwhile, Meredith comes up with the idea to 3-D print Adrian's massive tumor to get a better handle on how to approach it. And it's only going to take 10 hours.
Jackson and April argue about whether they should keep the baby if it's Type 2. Her mom shows up and whisks her off to church.
Adrian's husband Michael worries that she won't make it, and says he can't concentrate or leave until he knows more.
At the bar, Callie and Hunt are drinking when Callie sees the "sexy tech rep" and urges him to make his move. Callie goes up to the rep to help Hunt out, but is soon thrown off her game when the rep explains that she was actually flirting with Callie. Callie stammers and leaves when the rep offers to spend the night with her. Callie's not ready.
When Jackson gets home, April's mother tells him that God's plan will unfold as it will. Soon, Jackson and April's mother start shouting at each other until April snaps and tells them she's alone and terrified and needs them "both to just shut up."
Amelia finds Meredith, Pierce and Bailey all waiting for the 3-D tumor to print. Meredith says she doesn't want to be alone. Amelia says Meredith used to never be alone.
The next morning, the surgeons are looking at the 3-D tumor printing with residents and other doctors buzzing around the lab. They map the plan out on a white board over and over again until they get it right. But they can't finish the plan before Adrian starts to bleed and they have to take her to the O.R. Back in surgery, they realize they still can't see what's going on.
Webber stops by and gives Amelia a pep talk, telling her that just because no one else understands her plan doesn't mean she shouldn't try it. That's when Stephanie walks in and tells Amelia she understands her whole "big picture" approach.
Back in the surgery, Meredith, Bailey and Pierce reach the point where they no longer have a plan. Nearly having to cut blind at the tumor, Meredith looks at the 3-D model to feel around and find the right spot to cut. Pierce asks her how much she trusts the model and Meredith says, "I'll tell you in a minute," while going in with the scissors.
Sure enough, they remove "cyclops," which is what they've come to name the tumor. Jo sets it on a tray next to the model and the resemblance is uncanny.
Callie and Hunt lament not being ready to move on to new relationships. Callie wonders if they've used up all their "happy."
Laying in bed that night, next to her 3-D tumor, Meredith calls Pierce and they video chat on the phone.
Jackson and April wait for their test results, which Dr. Herman brings in (because this is a "big guns" conversation and Dr. Herman is the "big gun"). Dr. Herman says she has the results, but don't know what they are.
