Netflix has unveiled nine new movies and series from Poland including the directorial debut of High Water writer Kasper Bajon and a thriller from the team behind Forgotten Love.
As the streamer continues to unveil international originals by the bucket load, Project UFO leads the Poland slate, a mini-series helmed by Bajon that will transport fans of stories inspired by real events to the 1980s in order to investigate the alleged UFO landing in a remote countryside village.
Bajon wrote the popular High Water series, one of the biggest to come from Netflix Poland, about the 1997 Central European flood and how it was managed by the authorities of the Polish city of Wrocław.
Meanwhile, Michał Gazda (director) and Magdalena Szwedkowicz (producer), the team behind last year’s Netflix Poland movie Forgotten Love, are re-teaming on a movie following a retired policeman trying to bring to justice to those behind a ruthless bank robbery case,...

Sarah Jessica Parker became bigger than even some movie stars after years on the iconic series Sex and the City. But after the HBO franchise ended, Parker assumed her stint doing TV would end as well.
Why Sarah Jessica Parker thought she’d left TV for good Sarah Jessica Parker | Cindy Ord/Getty Images
Parker might’ve had her fill of doing television shows after Sex and the City. The show lasted six years from 1998 to 2004. It could’ve lasted even longer if Parker hadn’t decided to end the show on a high. When asked what she planned on doing after Sex and the City in an interview with Oprah, she didn’t see herself jumping on another show.
“So much of my life lately has been Sex and the City, and now I want more. I want to be a better parent, a better actress—to keep myself challenged and terrified.

There was no shortage of quality Korean shows to watch this year. From mystery thrillers and classic dramas to riveting reality series and heart-fluttering romances, 2023 was truly the year K-content ruled the roost. More recent releases like 1940s historical thriller, Gyeonseong Creature, with Park Seo-joon (The Marvels) and Han Soo-hee (My Name), and the latest season of horror drama favorite, Sweet Home, prove the momentum isn’t dying down anytime soon as we head into 2024.

Chicago – In his humility, Norman Lear liked to express that he was “just another version of you.” In our humanity, we are different renderings, but all related, as the titan of TV philosophically said. Norman Lear died at his home in Los Angeles on December 5th, 2023. He was 101 years old.
In 2015, Lear was lecturing at the Art Institute of Chicago, and I was privileged to get the opportunity to talk to him for a brief but significant amount of time. If the goal is to seek truth, there is no better guru. As an influencer on our times, Norman Lear is a cultural juggernaut, yet his humility is a driving force of his connection to his fellow humans, and he lived to connect to others.

The Season 2 premiere of “And Just Like That” opens with a montage with the three main characters — Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) — engaged in intimate acts with their respective lovers. And while the latter two appear in states of complete undress, Carrie does not.
Parker has talked openly about her “no nudity” stance in her career which dates back to her breakout role on “And Just Like That” predecessor “Sex and the City.” Davis, Nixon and Kim Cattrall all appeared nude on the show — which ran from the late ’90s to early ’00s on HBO — but Parker never did.

Many shows are about one thing in particular, with a number of subplots serving to support the main theme. While in some ways that is the case with the Apple TV+ drama “Bad Sisters,” there’s so much going on at any one given time that it’s almost hard to keep track of what started it all in the first place. That would be, of course, the death of The Prick (Claes Bang), also known as Jp, the manipulative, abusive husband of Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), and the show’s central mystery: did Grace’s four sisters kill him, and, if so, how did they do it?
This show moves seamlessly between multiple timelines, chronicling the inciting incident for each of the sisters that made them hate Jp, their multiple efforts to concoct a way to cleverly dispose of him, and the aftermath when a pair of insurance investigator brothers...

Welcome to It’s a Hit! In this series, IndieWire speaks to creators and showrunners behind a few of our favorite television programs about the moment they realized their show was breaking big.
Sharon Horgan has seen success in her day. After cracking through in 2006 with the cult favorite and two-time BAFTA nominee “Pulling,” the England-born, Ireland-raised writer and actor co-created a sharp-tongued and moving modern rom-com in “Catastrophe,” the Prime Video and Channel 4 original that landed Horgan her first Emmy nomination. Since then, she’s created a three-season series for HBO (“Divorce”), earned two additional BAFTA nods (for “Motherland”), and launched a production company, Merman, with offices in New York, Los Angeles, and London.
Now she leads “Bad Sisters,” a black-comic thriller for Apple TV+ about five siblings who swore to protect each other after their parents’ untimely death — and how that promise gets tested when they decide...

Sarah Jessica Parker has been in the business for a long time, and has her extensive filmography to prove it. But there came a time when Parker was more than disappointed by the types of movies that were being produced by Hollywood.
Sarah Jessica Parker didn’t feel people responded to her as a movie star Sarah Jessica Parker | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Even in the earlier days of her career, Parker didn’t see herself becoming a movie star. The Sex and the City star once asserted that she was more drawn to the craft of acting than the glamour. Which meant Parker was only interested in putting out projects that were meaningful, regardless of its popularity.

This thought, about what the mind is capable of even when the body is weak, led her to write the story of Nila, the first film she directed. Exclusive: Gillian Vigman is set as a lead opposite Katelyn Tarver in Open Book, Amazon Freevee’s half-hour scripted pilot, inspired by Jessica Simpson’s bestselling memoir, from Tom Kapinos (Californication), Patrick Moran’s Pkm Productions and Amazon Studios.
Described as a propulsive, music-soaked coming-of-age story, Open Book, written by Kapinos, follows pop star Sadie Sparrow’s (Tarver) rise from ingenue to mogul, introducing us to the family, friends, and lovers she collects along the way. Touching on themes of love, friendship, family and sisterhood, relationships, soul connections, Hollywood and the music business, Sadie ultimately comes to embrace herself and the fact that her heart inevitably wants what it wants at every stage of life.
Vigman will play Sadie’s mom.
John Stamos also stars in the pilot and will recur if it is picked up to series.
Kapinos and Bernstein executive produce. Moran and Pkm Productions executive produce with Amazon Studios.

In preparation for their upcoming series “George & Tammy,” Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain spent months learning the songs that George Jones and Tammy Wynette made famous, working with a vocal coach and making the pilgrimage to Nashville to record.
“The studio we recorded at butted up against the cemetery where George and Tammy are,” Shannon said. “We would go visit them. It was like this kind of spiritual odyssey that we went on.”
The two Grammy winners and Country Music Hall of Famers sang the most enduring and memorable songs in country music: “He Stopped Loving Her Today”, “Stand By Your Man”, “Tennessee Whiskey”, and “D-i-v-o-r-c-e”. But the relationship between Jones and Wynette during the height of their careers wasn’t the fairy tale romance many fans had hoped for the couple often nicknamed “the first lady and president of country music.”

Apple TV+ has renewed Bad Sisters, the dark comedy murder-mystery series from Sharon Horgan, for a second season.
The black comedy-drama, from Horgan’s Merman Television and Disney Television Studios’ ABC Signature, follows the tight-knit Garvey sisters, who all find themselves under investigation from life insurers when their brother-in-law is found dead.

“If you’d have told me three years ago that I’d be making a series about five murderous sisters chasing a man around Ireland trying to kill him, I’d have said, ‘Yeah, that sounds about right,’” said Horgan. “The response to our show had been beyond what we could have hoped for. It gave us the opportunity to shine a light on stories that don’t always get such a global platform. I look forward to getting chilly in the Irish Sea one more time.

The upcoming season of “The Crown” is going to be covering some of the most painful times in recent memory for the Royal Family, and it might prove to be very difficult for Prince William and Prince Harry to stomach.
Et recently sat down with royal expert Katie Nicholl, who helped shine some light on what the princes may be struggling with when it comes to season 5 of “The Crown”, which largely covers the 1990s — a particularly tumultuous and dark time for the family.
“I think this series is going to be quite uncomfortable viewing, not just for [Queen Consort] Camilla and [King] Charles but also for William and Harry,” Nicholl explained. “Scenes leading up to their mother’s death are going to be very, very uncomfortable for them.”
Princess Diana died in a shocking car crash in Paris in 1997, at the age of 36. At the time, William and Harry were 15 and 12, respectively.
