Director Ridley Scott (“The Last Duel”) continues developing his "Napoleon" feature "Kitbag", starring Joaquin Phoenix ("Joker") as the 'Emperor' of the French from 1804 to 1815, as seen through the eyes of his wife 'Josephine' (Jodie Comer), for 20th Century Studios:
"...the new film is described as a personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, 'Josephine'. The film will also capture Napoleon’s famous battles, his relentless ambition, and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary..."

Read More: SXSW Review: Russell Brand Needs to Make Peace With Ondi Timoner's 'Brand: A Second Coming' British standup comedian and actor Russell Brand's radical transformation into a rambunctious ideologue assailing the persecution of the lower classes has baffled his fellow citizens while going largely ignored in America, but that's hardly slowed down his passionate crusade. Brand's enviable cause received fascinating context in Ondi Timoner's recent "Brand: A Second Coming," which tracked its subject from his humble beginnings through various struggles with drugs, women and fame before the most recent and complicated phase of his public life. While the star turned his back on Timoner's project, citing the sensitivities associated with confronting his troubled past, it turns out he had an authorized encapsulation of his current state in the pipeline. "The Emperor's New Clothes," which is credited as being "made by" Brand and prolific British.

It looks like Michael Winterbottom is taking a break from directing Russell 'Parklife' Brand documentaries for the time being.
Now that The Emperor's New Clothes is done with, he's attached to helm Will Ferrell's upcoming indie drama Russ & Roger Go Beyond.
The film follows the relationship between film critic Roger Ebert and soft-core filmmaker Russ Meyer, who created Beyond the Valley of the Dolls together in 1970.
As The Hollywood Reporter reveals, Winterbottom will direct Will Ferrell in the movie, with the Anchorman star due to play Meyer.
It was revealed earlier in the year that Josh Gad is in line to play Roger Ebert in the upcoming drama.
The script was written by Chris Cluess, while David Permut, Cami Winikoff, Mark Amin and Tyler Boehm are set to produce the film.
Winterbottom recently spoke about directing Cara Delevingne in his movie The Face of an Angel, and claimed she's...

★★★☆☆ It seems only fitting that England's prized louche comic-turned-activist, Russell Brand, should find his latest on screen venture in Michael Winterbottom's documentary The Emperor's New Clothes (2015). Brand assumes the lead, taking aim at the bankers and corporations that form the world's top 1% of the wealth pyramid, looking to expose the problems in their practices and the more severe issues of income inequality that stem from those practices. Brand is able to bring his signature levity to an otherwise grim topic. He shines in his connections to the public, never shying away from the opportunity to charmingly mouth off to passers-by, security guards - anyone really.

The Emperor's New Clothes brings Brand to the heart of London and New York's financial districts to examine income inequality on a global scale.

Russell Brand and Michael Winterbottom team up for a compelling documentary that asks sizeable questions ahead of the UK general election.
Back in 2004, Michael Moore scored the biggest box office hit of his career. Fahrenheit 9/11 was Moore's reaction to the horrific events of September 11th 2001, and specifically the political changes that followed in its aftermath. Savagely critical of the George W Bush administration, the film also leaked online, and was widely seen ahead of the 2004 Us presidential election.
In said election, Bush grew his vote, won a majority in the popular ballot, increased his electoral vote tally, and was re-elected as President of the United States.
Why? Well, amongst the many reasons, maybe Moore was preaching a little to the converted. And the same may well be said of Russell Brand and Michael Winterbottom's new documentary, The Emperor's New Clothes.
At heart, this is an extension of the political...

In the latest clip from The Emperor's New Clothes, Brand criticises the wage disparity between people working in the same London office.
Brand points out: "A window cleaner working in the city would have to work for more than 300 years to make the same amount that their boss would make in a year."
The documentary film focuses on the ever-growing divide between the richest and poorest members of society and attempts to expose bankers' role in the economic downturn.
Brand was voted the world's fourth most influential thinker in a recent poll.
Meanwhile, the comedian told Alan Carr's Chatty Man that he understands why some people vote for Ukip.
The Emperor's New Clothes will hold special screenings across the UK on April 21 alongside a live Q&A event with Russell Brand.
