Teenagers, ey? Hangovers and all
kosmasp6 February 2016
There seems to be a new generation of comedies that seem to be very popular in Germany and everyone wants to get in on to the act. One particular actor seems to be all over the place (starring in "Fack ju Goethe" and "Doktorspiele" amongst other projects) and he's not the only link between those movies.

The humor seems to be more or less the same. So it's kind of like, if you like this, you'll like that other one too. You could say that it's a bit lazy and easy to jump on that bandwagon and ride that success as long as possible (still running by the way), but you can also either enjoy the ridiculous stuff they're doing or just watch other stuff. Having a class go off with 3 male friends having a night out, having a fourth person ... wait a minute! Did they mix teenage comedy with a Hangover theme/flavor? Nicely played sirs! Nicely played indeed ...

Pointless stupid teenager comedy

Warning: Spoilers
"Abschussfahrt" or "Check it Out!" is a German movie from 2015 that runs for roughly 85 minutes (without credits) and has been so far the most known work by writer and director Tim Trachte. This is nothing in his favor at all though as this movie here was a huge mess. It is about a trio/quartet of teenagers and their school trip to the Czech Republic where basically all they have in mind are partying, sex and girls of course. This already summarizes the action pretty well I guess and you know what to expect here. I usually say you cannot really blame actors if the script is really bad, but the actors in here (the guys and the girls) totally managed to make the weak material look even worse. Now about the script, it never made any sense. They sacrificed any realism and credibility and authenticity for stupid lame jokes from start to finish. And the worst is that these jokes were never funny. Yet the attempt at being funny was visible all the time and it was very cringeworthy to watch how they failed so miserably at making this an entertaining movie.

Just one or two example in terms of realism: The teenage boys in the focus of it all keep beating up trained security guys, professional gangsters and they even trick the police. Honestly, nothing of it made sense. And the moment they drove around inside a military tank, it was all over anyway, so it could not even get worse almost. This film we have here is what you would get if you take the worst moments from the American pie movies, the Eis am Stiel movies (Israeli Golden-Globe nominated film series) and the early Axel Stein comedy movies. It is pretty disappointing that a relatively experienced filmmaker like Tim Trachte still makes stuff like this after working in film (and in the film industry) for over a decade. But we, the audience, is also to blame that we actually gave this film enough attention so it would become his most known work and encourage other filmmakers to come up with the same crap like this film in their attempts to become famous. A sad state of affairs. Do yourself a favor and don't watch this movie. Stay far far away from it.
