Pornographers pretend to know something about doings in mainstream Hollywood in the boring series "Wingmen", a Digital Playground junker vaguely resembling TV's "Entourage".
Promoted by the Peter Principle from cameraman, Billy Visual/Billy da Kid muffs this assignment, riddled with poor editing, continuity errors and a general absence of credibility. Dcypher's lousy script gives us characters even a motherf*cker couldn't love.
Xander Corvus is the headstrong actor Felix who's big action movie earns him $60,000,000, a breakthrough the studio wants to exploit by having him crank out two more action shows pronto, while he, in true cliché mode, won't do anything except an indie project titled "El Chappo". Keiran Lee is his venal agent who seems to be always working against his client's interests.
Other major personages are Bill Bailey as Felix's manager (very poorly played), Ike Diezel as Felix's older brother (can't act worth a darn), Dane Cross as another key member of his entourage, Madison Ivy handling his public relations, and innumerable beauties as girl friends or just eye candy. Homework assignment for any porn expert on today's scene is to identify the dozens of extras, always uncredited; I thought I spotted Aaliyah Love and Alex Chance lurking around.
Lasting four hours, including immense padding via recaps, previews and repeated credit crawls between each of 8 episodes, "Wingmen" delineates double-dealing and industry-backstabbing at a kindergartner's level of awareness. Felix's travails are never believable, especially as he's frequently caught in cell phone photos getting him in trouble as the lamest of plot devices. He and his pals run through many women including Mia Malkova, a real (and really tanned) discovery Gianna Nicole and of course Ivy, but the sex scenes are mechanical and poorly shot. Sets are very cheap and add no credibility to the show.
At one point Felix is challenged to a drag race and director Visual, already cutting all possible corners, doesn't even show the cars riding along, just shots in the front seat. Clearly one isn't expected to maintain interest in the story, but rather to hit up the website for an individual half-hour segment to masturbate by.
At one point early on, two alternate takes of Ike Diezel making a remark are repeated back to back to prove the editors fell asleep, and soon after the continuity person went on hiatus as a girl removes her bikini top and immediately the cut to the next shot has it back on firmly in place.
After four hours the terrible non-ending of a finale was insulting, and even more so was the decision to hire the least likely candidate, a drunken porno director named Rob Z. (for Zombie perhaps?) to direct "El Chappo", after he had proved himself completely incompetent and disloyal in previous dealings with Felix. Worst twist prior to that nonsense is the gimmick of Ike Diezel landing a leading mainstream film role after a disastrous audition, and especially after his horrible line readings throughout "Wingmen".
