This is how you shape the future. One of the incredible stories about 'The Gulen Movement (Hizmet)'
mustafa_er15 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The timing of Selam:Bahara Yolculuk was just terrific if you ask me. This film made the cinema goers incredibly happy, totally relieved. The reason why they feel so delighted is because of the awfully socio-political period the Turkish people have been going through. The recent appalling hatred-based speeches by the ruling party caused a lot of polarization among people, widened the gap, damaged the peace- making bridges and harmed people mentally. The Gov't dishonored a lot of 'Hizmet-followers', besmirched their opinion and called them (the most patriotic and peaceful people) liars. Surely that was an outrageous slander! Particularly at this point, this film became medical.

The first Selam film was shot in three different countries and focused on three different stories. Actually all events in those countries were more or less the same thing. It depicted the difficult lives of three different teachers who had to struggle with the hardship of their lives in foreign cultures they were living in. Unlike the first film Selam: Bahara Yolculuk is based on only one touching story. An amazing story of a family, its commitment and success to establish a school in a godforsaken place in Kyrgyzstan.

Like the first part of Selam, all the facts and events are completely based on a true story. The places, the knotty problems, the misery, the pitiable situation of the family and the family's devotion are reflected to the big screen nicely. Of course it isn't a documentary film about a family's survival story. On the contrary, this film's got an extremely compelling story, superbly crafted by Hamdi Alkan, the director.

Even though it is a film that actually introduces the audience ''The Gulen Movement (Hizmet)'', but all film fans would like it whether they have some preliminary information about ''Hizmet'' or not. For instance, Fethullah Gulen's humble abode, the '5.floor' in Altunizade Istanbul is shown in the very beginning of the film. It is a well- known place for the 'Hizmet' followers, yet, it might have never been heard from many people in Turkey. But it really doesn't matter. Everybody enjoys it. It's just not these parts which make you the most amazed, it's honestly the whole movie. Hence the reason I give full marks to Hamdi Alkan for directing a film which made me (a Hizmet follower) and everybody else feel touched.

There's just one little hair in the soup. The acting isn't one of the best thing in the movie. The performances aren't Oscar-winning enough however the main Turkish and Kyrgyz characters are impressive. I only had problem with the background cast with minor roles but all in all I can tell I saw a decent acting from the actors.

Just imagine, well-educated youngsters who gave their words, their promises, their sacred vows on the 5.floor to Allah the Almighty in front of Fethullah Gulen. Gulen's advice is greatly valued by his lovers/followers and these young men with great sight gave their words to travel anywhere 'fate' is going to appoint them, gave their promises to do nothing but goodness for humanity regardless their religion/language/color/culture, gave their sacred vows not to gain anything, not to ask anything in return, not to follow their desires but work for others and live for others and establish moral values in the entire world. These young Anatolian people have the heart to make people to get to know each other better and establish bridges of dialog. Imagine that! What I'm going to say is that Hamdi Alkan manages to squeeze all the significant aspects of 'Hizmet' delicately in a 126-minute-film, which is why this film is so exceptional.

During the entire movie you witness the heroic sacrifice, heart- wrenchingly sad moments, and tearful commitments. Let me get this straight, you travel to a godforsaken country where there's no infrastructure, left abandoned after Soviet Union's collapse, where there's famine, even the dwellers hate to live there. They question the teacher's good intention, asking like 'now what in the creation would you want up at this place fella?' One of the touching scenes is that when the small child spends his time playing with insects instead of toys or friends. Or the altruistic mother who has been diagnosed with brain tumor, delays her surgery so that she doesn't cause further delay of the construction of an old school building. And the dialog with the doctor will definitely bring tears in your eyes and make your pulse beat thickly in your throat. She asks the mother, quote: ''What can be more important than your health?'' I can't shake that line! I wouldn't wish it on anyone but these are only two samples to make you feel what these great people have been through.

I'd also like to add that one of the memorable moments you will see are, that even the simplest chores we do in our daily lives, become impossible to do. We are talking here about the 90's, not the 30's. The circumstances were far from ideal but…there were no complaints!

Well, all the above-mentioned samples might sound nothing but fairy tales to most of us. However these are facts. And Hamdi Alkan, the director, without doubt succeeded pointing out these commitments in his film. It's just so very well written and the reality that is shown in this film is very well done and makes you cry. These scenes become totally heart-rending with the powerful theme music that leaves you inspired, touched, amazed.

To put it in a nutshell, the story of 'Hizmet' is suffering, self- sacrificing, caring, loving, educating, building bridges, establishing harmonious relationships and commitments. I'm sure 'The Gulen Movement' entails a lot of stories. There are hundreds of real life stories waiting for writers to publish them in their books, for film-makers to make film. I believe even the Hollywood directors who harbor no ill will against Muslims or 'Hizmet' will one day produce films based on 'The Gulen Movement'.

There are still good people in the world
osmanay-0510812 April 2015
There are some evil spirited people who speak and write against the Gulen Movement in Turkey. Gulen Movement talk back to them with the language of art in this movie. It is a snapshot of life of the dedicated educationists. The story has been inspired from a real story -The story of a teacher (Mr. İsmail). Mr. Ismail moved from Turkey to Kyrgyzstan to Open a School there. It is a piece of a global mosaic, the peace and humanity mosaic. Mr. Ismail believed this project with all his heart and bear any kind of difficulties for this purpose.

What I see in the movie that success of education is all about communication and leaving no body behind left.

One of excellent movie that I watched in my entire life. This is the movie that tells us about how Gulen movement hug the people of other countries, how the movement stands against the ignorance and cruelty of other human beings. And also the story of movie is so perfectly following the idea of helping people whatever their belief and culture is not important. the important thing is just being human. One of the ideas that I figured out from the movie is if we solve the problems of humanity we solve every problem in the world. Whatever kind of it does not matter. Whatever complexities of it does not matter. Whatever difficulties of it does not matter.the only matter is look each other without judgment accept them with their own nature.

This film tells of the process of founding Turkish schools overseas. It's an emotional and true story.
erkut-264-43445515 March 2015
Based on a true story, the film tells of two unrelated people from Turkey who relocate in Kyrgyzstan and how in time they form a bond.

Teacher Ismail moves to Kyrgyzstan, to write a brand new story full of hope. No doors would be opened before his devotion and selflessness mingle together. Teacher Ismail and his wife would not return from this journey. They keep struggling at the foot of Tian Shan Mountains to complete this story, even at the risk of their lives. But when it comes to building schools, one has to be prepared for the hardest battle on earth: "Fighting with ignorance".

This is not just a film... This is a story behind a legend...

It is suitable for all ages....

Hizmet is a "verb"
fatihbalciakademi16 March 2015
Movie is an excellent example for working, investing on future and generation is the most profitable action for humanity. I was shocked when i learned that some of the actors were teachers who were educated in these colleges which have shown in the movie. They were students, then became teachers and started to pay back as return on investment and also took one step ahead by advertising all of these to the world. I think this movement should be analyzed carefully because if a Kirghiz student can go to high school in Kirghizistan then goes to university in Turkey or another country then becomes teacher in Ghana or Kenya. That is really a huge action for bounding the nations in peace and that is not an utopia. As a result casting is good, scenario is good, costumes are good and decoration is good and realistic. It is worth to be seen. Do not miss it ;)

Shame for Turkish cinema
dorukdagasan2 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Scenario was so bad, acting amateurish, directing also was bad. I wish like this movies was not exist in Turkish cinema because they are shame for it. If I had a chance I would give 0 (zero) point for this movie.

First I'll look at shooting movie issue. Shooting a film must not for politic or financial concerns. It must contain art and craft. Neither scenario nor acting was good. In scenario, there was not connection between events. Moreover there was simple tricks in movie. It was just make audience cry. Furthermore end of movie was cliché. You can find 100 like this end in Turkish movies. There is no creative idea in movie. A further point is story of movie. Story was about a teacher but there is overstatement. In my opinion, it was not persuasive. Otherwise there was denigration to Kyrgyzstan. This country is not bad as in movie.

Finally, ordinary story, ordinary scenario, ordinary acting exist in this movie . I tried to make comments fairly and I think this movie do not deserve better comments. I suggest this movie to no one. I hope quality works will increase in Turkish cinema and like this movies will not be remembered by nobody.

From a simple life to a better world.
alpboga15 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
A great film by Hamdi Alkan. I watched it yesterday and it's effect is still going on. The film mainly talks about teachers who leaves their country, their comfort, their family to create a better world. Their only aim is to create a new generation who has got moral values. This film also shows the difficulty of opening new Turkish schools all around the world. Teachers don't go to different countries to live a better life but to die in peaceful. I really recommend you to watch this film, because you will see there are still a lot of people who works for others without expecting anything. I also thank to 'Fethullah Gülen' for giving us this great opinion. Anymore, we know why we live in this world.

One of the finest Turkish movies made in recent years.
ersanozmen17 March 2015
This movie is not an ordinary Turkish movie. It has a great and deep message. "Bahara Yolculuk" encompasses friendships, hardships, hopes and dreams. One of the finest Turkish films made in recent years.

"Bahara Yolculuk" also has a very poignant and moving story about power of hope. And what is so great about the movie is that it gives you hope.

The movie is based on a true story. A young teacher (Ismail) from Turkey whose goal is to establish a school in Kyrgyzstan leaving his country, comforts and family to create a better world. Instilling moral values in a new generation whilst overcoming the difficulties of opening a new Turkish school in a foreign land.

What is Hizmet movement? It's based on a true story...
ahmedyasar17 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Hizmet is a faith-inspired civil society movement that seeks to create a culture of coexistence within universal, humanist values and is comprised of volunteers. The essence of voluntarism is to make a contribution without the expectation of anything in return. Put a different way, whoever does his service with any expectations whatsoever would not be acting in the spirit of Hizmet. Second, Hizmet, as a civil society movement, operates with a strictly civic character. It is not an organ or an affiliate of a government program, political party or agenda. Likewise, this civil movement is not an opponent of any political party. In the final analysis, political scientists base the definition of a civil society movement on three main elements: It must be voluntary, autonomous and nongovernmental. A social movement that fulfills these three criteria is considered a civil society movement and ought to be called such. For this reason, whoever seeks to ascribe a political agenda to Hizmet ignores the spirit of this civic movement. Likewise, as a result of its civic character, there is no official connection or hierarchy among the adherents of the movement, nor is there a central administration directing all of Hizmet's efforts. At this point, the discussions of the relationship between this movement and politics in particular should be carefully analyzed. Arguments suggesting that Hizmet is associated with a particular political party or is a secret supporter or opponent of a political party are not compatible with the essence of the movement. As uncompromising supporters of democracy, those who participate in Hizmet are respectful of all political movements that do not rely on terror and violence, which are rejected by universal legal standards. However, Hizmet does not pursue integration with or detachment from any democratic and non- violent political movements. The growing respect for Hizmet in numerous countries and among varying religious, ethnic and language groups is attributable to its civic character. If people associated with the Hizmet movement had been involved in acts that violated this character or acted as representatives of political parties or government programs, they would not have been welcomed by cultures all over the globe. But here is another critical point: As in any other social movement, some participants in the Hizmet movement may act contrary to the movement's core value of civic voluntarism. However, these mistakes cannot be attributed to Hizmet. If such a person's mistake has legal consequences or liabilities, the only proper recourse is to take this person before the courts and the legal process. This description is being made to offer a small contribution to the ongoing debates in Turkey. Because of the focus of the long-standing debate on the Hizmet movement in Turkey, Turkish politics and its agenda have been taken as the main point of reference in our discussion as well. But it would be misleading to conclude that Hizmet is an exclusively Turkish movement. While from a historical and sociological perspective Hizmet certainly originated in Turkey, the values and the understanding it represents are universal.

Great
sineld16 March 2015
Movie has been a great work.

Based partly on the teachings of the preacher and writer Fetullah Gulen, SELAM tells the true story of three Turkish teachers who left their native lands to work in countries they have never heard of before Kazakhistan and Kirghizistan.

This movie tries to picture the story of these volunteers.

So many lives has been put on a movie with great success.

Lives of people who has dedicated their to others happiness made so many people cry.

Also the music of the movie is cool with the players great acting.

Thanks.

A terrorist propaganda film by Fettoş
ahmetkiris3 August 2015
This is a true story film by a terrorist organization in Turkey. Their leader is Fetullah, and he says always very impressive and attractive words to collect fans as seen in the film. But the truth is hided beyond their words. Yes, they help you, they help poor students, they says always humanity rights as we see in the film. But for what, to use you when the time comes. they pray to their leader but they critic human rights in Turkey. Yes it is true that the human rights is a problem for Turkey but you can not find any right in this terrorist group. What the leader is said, it is almost god words for their members, they believe that Fettos (!apostasy) is Mehdi. You can not critic him, but they says they are the warrior of human rights. Please, not only watch the film, but also find their big plan to control all over the world. Do not sleep with his impressive words, but look also his sheet. Geberit.

A Movie to Change Your Life - Literally - Forever...
yukariguz17 March 2015
There are movies that you forget the moment you get out of the hall, there are those that you always remember with a smile on your face, there are also those that shape your idea of fiction. And there those rare movies with small budgets, with no particularly famous cast but that change forever the way you look at the life.. And Selam: Bahara Yolculuk does this even better than its prequel, Selam (2013). For those that believe in eternal life and this world is just test grounds to separate good souls from the bad, in this movie you witness how such separation is made by God.. What makes us worthy of God's praise and eternal happiness and what makes us worthy of eternal pain.. See the movie, judge for yourself... Well-done makers and thank you amazing cast...

Everybody must see this film. A true story.

I would like to congratulate the makers of this film. This film brings you to another dimension of the humanity.

If you see this film than You will be more aware that there are more important things than carrier, making money and pleasure.

When I saw this film I asked to myself, what have I done to other people. I saw in this film that one man can change many things in the world. The only thing what you have needed is hope and believe.

This film is also a right answer for the people who's saying: "There happens only bad things in the world, I can't do anything about it as individual" in this film is on a right way exhibited that one man change many things in the world if you believe and have hope.

Based on true story - hard to believe
benfatih17 March 2015
You can make up any interesting story. When you learn that this excellent movie is based on a true story, the way you look at life changes. People can make sacrifices for their parents, children, relatives, friends, country, or nation. Spending your life for people from a different country without any expectation from them with reducing your life standards. In addition, members of your family have to sacrifice a lot from education, eating habits, housing standards, etc. You will also hide your cancer from your spouse to make him finish his job. You will challenge many problems and resolve all the issues and you succeed. Then, when you are about to see the output, you leave..... I really recommend everyone to watch the movie.

Hope for mankind..
birader8 April 2015
The movie is about "love and hope" for "mankind".. Movie itself is answer for the question "how much you can sacrifice for others, for mankind?".

No expectations, no hidden agenda's, no secrets or ulterior motives for anything, just be the help, be hope for all the troubles faced/facing by mankind..

The motto is simple "we are not responsible for success or rewards, we are responsible for taking measures, acts and effort..We are seeking a good death not a good life."

It shows that a world where anyone can live for others, support without expectations and rewards is possible, not an utopia.

The messages in the movie is based on actual events and true stories which gives us hope..
