  Reta Winters : [voice over]  All my life, I've heard of people speak of finding themselves in acute pain, bankrupt in spirit and body, but I've never understood what they meant. To lose. To have lost. I believe these visitations of darkness last only a few minutes or hours, and that these saddened people, in-between bouts, are occupied, because we all are, with the useful monotony of happiness.

  Reta Winters : [voice over]  Day by day, Norah is recovering at home, awakening, atom by atom, and shyly planning her way back into the world. It is bliss to see, though I have not permitted myself, while rejoicing. We watch her closely, but pretend not to. She may return to college, or maybe not. We live, ten ten, in a world of maybes. Right now, she is sleeping. We are all still sleeping. It is early morning, late in the month of March.
