Absolutely a must watch for argentine tango lover
dchew983 April 2021
This documentary is about the argentine tango culture in Berlin. The viewers got a chance to live vicariously through the beautiful tango dancers performing to both the traditional and refreshingly contemporary tango music, and imagine dancing in one of the tango club surrounded by all these beautiful dancers in Berlin. It just blew my mind to learn of such a subculture there and infected me with their passion on this wonderful dance/culture. Definitely a must watch for any person who want to check out the tango scene in Berlin.

This film is more likely the layout for the real production

Warning: Spoilers
First of all, in general I like the film and the idea to present the tango community of Berlin with instrument makers, singers, instrumentalists, dj's, organizers, show dancers, teachers and milongueros.

So the holistic concept of the film is great. And the interviewed persons are well chosen. Unfortunately most of the dance scenes contain post produced music, which is not the music the dancers dance to in the scenes. This is a no go for a film about the deep connection between poets, composers, musicians and dancers within the social dance of the tango community.

The dance couple of the first film scene could have been a common thread to tell the story in a non-verbal way between the interviews. Instead of that there are some unnecessary scenes like the underwater tango and some unconnected couple dances to the storyline.

An additional chapter about the history of the Berlin tango community with historical footages would have been nice as well. The interviewees definitely could have contribute this to the production, maybe with some unique footages.

Overall my impression is that the film is a template for the real production. Because it's supposed to be the final production, there should be a better remake.
