When Mr. Gallo (J.K. Simmons) and Martin (Emile Hirsch) are out to dinner, looking for Ginnie, Mr. Gallo tells a story involving the disappearance of his friend's daughter. He says "Luckily, I know a thing or two about a thing or two". This is a nod to his current Farmers ad campaign. J.K. Simmons stars in the current Farmers Insurance TV commercials, where his punch line is "We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two".
Martin (Hirsch) and Mr. Gallo (Simmons) recognize their potential for bonding whilst appreciating a Bob Seger song on the car radio. The final song performed by Martin's band is Bob Seger's 'Night Moves' as a testament to their new friendship.
The food that is used in the film is prepared by Chef Conrad Woodul, one of the top chefs in Los Angeles.
