Fede Alvarez’s (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) Alien: Romulus is set between the events of Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens, and Alvarez had explained to Total Film earlier this month that the film is something of a tonal fusion of the two classic Alien movies.
Alvarez teases, “The environments, and the pace of it as well – it’s more similar to Alien for quite a bit. And then gradually – you won’t even know – you feel like it’s more Aliens. It’s a natural progression, and it happens effortlessly.”
On that note, Fandango’s Summer Movie Preview brings us a brand new image from Alien: Romulus this morning, and you can certainly feel the Aliens vibes in this particular shot.
Check it out below and catch the franchise’s return in theaters August 16.
Here’s the full official plot synopsis for Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus...

Nicholas Galitzine, who has played several gay or queer characters both on TV and in films, says he has felt “somewhat guilty” over the possibility that he, as a straight man, is “taking up someone’s space.”
In an interview with GQ, Galitzine, currently starring as a queer character in the Starz drama George & Mary, said, “I identify as a straight man, but I have been a part of some incredible queer stories. I felt a sense of uncertainty sometimes about whether I’m taking up someone’s space, and perhaps guilt. At the same time, I see those characters as not solely their sexuality.”
Galitzine also currently stars opposite Anne Hathaway in the romance film The Idea of You. Last year he starred opposite Taylor Zakhar Perez in the Prime Video gay royalty romance film Red White and Royal Blue, and has portrayed a closeted gay rugby player in...

Entertainment Weekly writes, “… Alvarez promises [the Xenomorph’s design] is closer to H.R. Giger’s original creation than any other iteration.” The late H.R. Giger was of course integral to Ridley Scott’s Alien, designing the iconic monster the franchise is centered on.

Some have dubbed it “the Harry Styles fan-fiction movie”, while others are already calling it the new Notting Hill.
The Idea of You, the latest film from The Big Sick director Michael Showalter centres around a passionate, if a little vanilla, age-gap relationship between a forty year old divorcee from LA and an internationally renowned boy-band singer in his early twenties.
Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine are Solène and Haze, two star-crossed lovers who after a meet-cute at the Coachella music festival – she is there to chaperone her teenage daughter and her friends, while he is headlining the main stage – can’t seem to get enough of each other. But while Solene repeatedly rejects Haze’s advances invoking their 15 year age-gap, Haze is convinced that she is the woman for him and refuses to take no for an answer.

There is not a more dependable movie genre in 2023 than horror. They can be made quickly and cheaply, starring up-and-coming teens and twenty-somethings, with the occasional appearance from a B-list (at most) actor whose presence lends the project a shred of credibility. They can also be released at any time of the year. In 2023, "M3GAN" cleaned up in January, "Scream VI" carved out a significant chunk of change in March, while the A24 sleeper hit "Talk to Me" entranced scare-seeking audiences throughout July and August.
Beginning with the release of "Paranormal Activity," Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions have been churning out durable franchises like "Insidious" and "The Purge," while taking chances on original visions from ambitious filmmakers like Jordan Peele ("Get Out") and Scott Derrickson ("The Black Phone"). Sometimes the best way for a performer to gain screen time is to write their own material — and there are dozens of multihyphenates who have balanced writing and acting duties on their respective series this season. That’s particularly true in comedy, a genre that sees many series led by performers who mine their own lives for onscreen laughs. (See, for example, HBO Max’s Bridget Everett-led Somebody Somewhere, Peacock’s Pete Davidson vehicle Bupkis and Netflix’s Mo, co-created by and starring Mo Amer.)
But running a show is also a great way for an actor to branch out into the directing field. This season, these five actor-writers also helmed episodes of their Emmy-contending shows.

Sigourney Weaver will never reprise her role as 'Alien' character Ellen Ripley. The 73-year-old actress first portrayed the character 44 years ago in Sir Ridley Scott's iconic 1979 sci-fi horror movie, but she insists that ship has now "sailed". She told Total Film magazine: "There are all kinds of younger actors taking this kind of role. And there was an ‘Alien’ [film] that I really wanted to do with Neill Blomkamp and we didn’t get to do that, but, you know, that ship has sailed. "I’m very happy doing what I’m doing. I put in my time in space!"Weaver went on to star as Ripley in 1986 movie 'Aliens', 'Alien 3' in 1992, and 1997's 'Alien: Resurrection'. Blomkamp previously scripted an 'Alien' film at 20th Century Fox, but it didn't get off the ground. Last month, it was revealed the next instalment...

The multiverse? So hot right now.
Theories surrounding alternate universes have existed in some form or another since the days of pre-Socratic Greek philosopher Anaximander in the sixth century Bce. Recently, however, popular culture has realized the full storytelling potential of infinite worlds in grand fashion. Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty arguably brought the age-old concept to the mainstream. Then Marvel Studios kicked off its own Multiverse Saga with phases 4 through 6 of the long-running franchise. Most recently, the multiverse-friendly Everything Everywhere All At Once won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
While the multiverse is very much in right now, there is an important element that most, if not all, of these multiverse projects are missing. And that’s something that actress and filmmaker Zoe Lister-Jones is hoping to rectify with her new Roku Channel series Slip.

It’s been strange to discover how many filmmakers have willfully ignored the fact that, for a couple of very recent years, the planet Earth was completely consumed by a deadly pandemic that killed millions of people, tanked our economies, transformed social interactions, and probably changed life as we know it forever. Most movies and TV shows are happy to pretend those years never happened, and have never interrupted the flow of their characters’ lives. But horror filmmakers — who work fast, work cheap, and have carte blanche to confront our most uncomfortable anxieties — are the exception.
The “Lockdown Wave” of filmmaking, with productions that took place in the midst of the pandemic or its immediate aftermath, has already yielded fascinating results. Films like “Host” nimbly explored themes of shared cultural responsibility, while Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead’s “Something in the Dirt” tackled broader existential dilemmas. It seems only fitting that Kevin Williamson,...

The Covid pandemic set thriller occurs during the early lockdown. It follows best friends Parker and Miri quarantined alone at an isolated family lake house. But they’re not alone for long.
The horror feature premiered earlier this week out of TIFF, where our own Joe Lipsett said in his review, “the never-ending attack, and the violence – often filmed in unflinching long takes – is mean and vicious.”
Bloody Disgusting spoke with leads Adlon and Million out of TIFF about working with Williamson and what it’s like shooting a visceral home invasion thriller.
Adlon distilled it down to a single name in horror when asked what it was about the script that enticed the actors.

Back in the mid-2010s — before Ann Thomas started her Transgender Talent management company — it wasn’t always easy for Hollywood productions to find trans actors. “They were calling around to LGBT centers: ‘Do you happen to know somebody?'” recalls Thomas, who started the agency in 2015 after appearing on an episode of Glee that featured a 197-person-strong, all-trans choir, many of whose members were found through such untraditional casting methods.
Since then, Thomas has won roles for an array of the company’s trans and nonbinary clients including Zoey Luna (a lead in the 2020 film The Craft: Legacy), Shannon Gibbs (Jackass 4.5) and Emmett Preciado (Good Trouble). “She cares about the job part of it and she cares about the emotions of every single one of the people whom she represents,” Luna says of her manager.

Taylor Zakhar Perez (The Kissing Booth 2 & 3) and Nicholas Galitzine (Cinderella) have been tapped to lead Prime Video’s romantic comedy Red, White & Royal Blue, based on Casey McQuiston’s bestselling novel of the same name. Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew López (The Inheritance) will direct, in his feature debut, with Clifton Collins Jr. (Westworld), Stephen Fry (The Dropout) and Sarah Shahi (Sex/Life) also aboard to star.
Red, White & Royal Blue follows the Mexican-American character Alex Claremont-Diaz (Perez) who, upon his mother’s election as President, is promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, brilliant―his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There’s only one problem: Alex has a long-running feud with his royal counterpart across the pond, Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine). And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an altercation between the two, U.S./British relations...
