The newsstand scenes were planned to be shot outdoors. However, when summer temperatures reached 100 degrees, director Jon Shelton decided at the last minute to use the cooler Loudon Square restaurant as the sole location, and its mural as a backdrop representing the exteriors. In retrospect, he feels the background's painted landscape gave the comedy a more whimsical, theatrical quality.
