It’s ironic but unavoidable that the greatest annual celebration of film should be a television special — but that’s just how it is. March often means Oscar season, a time for cinephiles to boot up that small screen you use for movies and use it to see if they win any awards during a telecast.
If you don’t have TV service anymore, Hulu has you covered with a pre-Oscars telecast as well as two red carpet specials before and after the main event. Though the ceremony itself won’t be livestreamed on Hulu, it will be added the next morning, like regular ABC programming. Awards viewership has been in general decline over the past several years, but next-day streaming gives curious viewers a chance to join the conversation and boost those Oscar ratings after the live show. It’s also a chance for superfans to pause and rewind...

Exclusive: The magical menace called Mxyzptlk is returning to National City. Thomas Lennon (The State) is set to recur as the mercurial trickster in the fifth season of the CW’s Supergirl.
Mxyzptlk, aka “Mxy,” is the impish, reality-bending trickster from the 5th Dimension, who previously visited National City to woo Kara Danvers, aka Supergirl, but created chaos in the process. British actor Peter Gadiot portrayed Mxyzptlk for that two-part Season 2 adventure, but the transition to Lennon is smoothed by the character’s handy reputation as a shape-shifter with an unpredictable nature.
Mxyzptlk (it’s pronounced “miks-yez-pit-əl-ik”) has a history of mischief dating back to 1944 in the pages of DC Comics, where the most familiar version of the character is as an eccentric, levitating imp with a purple-and-orange ensemble and matching bowler. Often portrayed as an exasperating pest to Superman, Mxyzptlk is daft but also dangerous given the Kryptonian vulnerability to magic.

Every day seems to bring something new around here. The latest new thing is totally fun and inspiring, and allows me to use the word “totally” in my lead paragraph. Which is also new. Here’s the gig: I get to go to lunch with a group of smart and talented women in the entertainment industry and you get to watch us do it. Seriously, the conversation is right on the edge of what’s happening, because entertainment is what makes the change, right? And women in Hollywood are leading the way, right? Right. Heather Graham drew from her own life for her directorial debut, “Half Magic” — specifically, the power of visualizing what you want to accomplish. “I had a group of friends, and we would get together, and we would make wishes for things,” she told TheWrap founder and editor-in-chief Sharon Waxman. “We would support each other in making our dreams come true. And a lot of things started to happen… we would wish for things and they would come true,” Graham continued. Girl Talk is a weekly look at women in film — past, present, and future.
Three decades into her Hollywood career, Heather Graham is making some changes. The long-time actress has always mixed things up in her work. Even as a teenager, she always seemed interested in working with a wide array of directors on some very different projects, playing the object of Corey Haim’s affection in the teen comedy “License to Drive” and turning in an Indie Spirit-nominated supporting turn in Gus Van Sant’s “Drugstore Cowboy” in the space of a year. Her best-known roles also reflect that same spirit, and Graham is just as recognizable for her work in the first “Austin Powers” film as she is for her heartbreaking spin in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Boogie Nights.”
But that still doesn’t mean she was getting all the parts she wanted. “As an actress, sometimes you...

"Why are we sitting around talking about how sad our lives are?" Momentum Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for an indie romantic comedy titled Half Magic, the feature directorial debut of actress Heather Graham, who also stars in the film in the lead role as "Honey". Half Magic is a story all about female empowerment in relationships, the work place, and in sex. Graham herself stars as woman working in Hollywood, based on her own experiences. The ensemble cast also features Angela Kinsey, Stephanie Beatriz, Jason Lewis, Thomas Lennon, and Chris D'Elia. This also features music by Moby, which is pretty cool. This looks quirky, spunky, and amusing, I'm certainly curious about it. Might be worth a watch. Here's the first official trailer for Heather Graham's Half Magic, direct from YouTube: Heather Graham's Half Magic explores themes of female empowerment through sex, work, and friendship. For her directorial debut, long-time actress and Hollywood star Heather Graham tackled an R-rated mainstay — the sex comedy — with a decidedly feminine-focused twist and a strong message of self-love. Graham also stars in the film, which is apparently “pulled from personal experiences.”
“Half Magic” follows a trio of very different women who share the same problem: their love lives just aren’t up to snuff. The ladies, including Angela Kinsey and Stephanie Beatriz, decide to take it upon themselves to pursue only good relationships with worthy men.

For more than a decade, Heather Graham kept quiet about an uncomfortable encounter with Harvey Weinstein in the early 2000s which the movie mogul implied she would have to have sex with him to get a movie role. The actress, writer and director privately wrestled with the awkward series of conversations that included an invitation to meet Weinstein in his hotel room. She channeled some of her frustration writing and directing Half Magic, a raunchy comedy in which the…...

After a 30-year career playing drug-addicted teens, Austin Powers-shagging CIA agents and even appearing on the cover of Time magazine in 2003 (for a story about meditation, which she does regularly), Heather Graham, 47, is about to unveil her most challenging role to date: writer-director. Half Magic — being introduced to Afm buyers by Arclight Films — is a comedy about female empowerment in which Graham also stars as a member of a sisterhood (alongside Molly Shannon, Stephanie Beatriz and Angela Kinsey) that comes together to do battle against male dominance and chauvinism.

Heather Graham's first turn in the director's chair is heading to the American Film Market and has a distributor already lined up for North America.

Growing up, Heather Graham was sure she wanted to be the next Meryl Streep.
"If someone made me cry, I thought that was the ultimate achievement," the 47-year-old actress tells Et, laughing. "I just felt like, 'I want to be in really depressing films that will win an Academy Award.' And then I thought, 'I don't, really -- I just want to laugh and find the humor in things.'"
