Nicely atmospheric Warning: Spoilers
"Melon Rainbow" is a 28-minute live action short film from 2015 and the first non-documentary filmmaking effort by writer and director Laurits Flensted-Jensen and his lead actress here is Victoria Carmen Sonne. She plays a girl who works in a tough underpaid job, but luckily thanks to her looks she also works as a nude webcam model in the evening and makes a few more bucks this way. This is just the background though. There is more focus on her relationship with a blind young man and how the two get closer after initial displays of jealousy. The filmmaker uses these two plot points very nicely to elaborate on the subject of see, being seen and voyeurism as well. Pay attention to how you see/watch this film too. It adds even more. There are many interesting minor moments, like when she secretly turns on the camera during intercourse. Yep, now you heard it, this is a pretty explicit movie. You see female breasts on several occasions, even a male genital on one, so if this bothers you, then maybe better don't watch. Still you should (wo)man up because you'd miss a pretty entertaining and atmospheric movie this way. It is far from perfect and honestly I can also see why it did not get thaat much awards attention really. The ending I am not too big on honestly when we see her with these goggles, it felt a bit going too much against all the smart subtlety before that, but it's maybe also subjective, so some may like it. The final shot was pretty good again though, I could feel the tension right through my screen. I also think this film was well-acted all in all. So no hesitation for me in giving these almost 30 minutes a thumbs-up. Denmark has come up with many high-quality short film since the 90s already, this is one of the newer installments at under 5 years of age now. I think you should watch it, it fits right in the category as well.
