All the ingredients, no meal

"Lover's Leap" is a 7-minute short film from this year and the attempt of writer and director Jonathan Zuck to come up with a modern-day film noir movie. However, in my opinion, he did not succeed. Yes, there is the private eye, the crime, the femme fatale and more ingredients that are always in the kind of genre, but here it does not fit together in an interesting manner. The meal simply isn't delicious, which is especially a shame as Zuck has been fairly prolific in the last 6 years and I hoped he could come up with more than that. It's all style over substance, especially the showy ending. And what is going on with the music. It is so loud, visual and in your face that, most of the time, the actual more feels more like background action. This film looks like a music video for Exit 10 most of the time. If that was the intention, then they succeeded, but I highly doubt it. Not a good film, not even (or especially not) for lovers of the film noir genre. Thumbs down.
