"The House is the Symbol of Security in Our Country . . . "
oscaralbert15 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
" . . . and when you Remove Security, you get Down to Raw Nerve," a prescient screenwriter declares during FROM THE ASHES: WILLIAM F. NOLAN ON BURNT OFFERINGS. Specifically, Mr. Nolan and his BURNT cohorts seem to be feeling into America's Deplorable Future U.S. House of Representatives. Co-opted by Red Commie KGB Chief Vlad "The Mad Russian" Putin as a result of America's Rigged Elections of 2016, the BURNT script takes an allegorical look ahead to a day (Today!) when America's House definitely is NOT in order. From its clinging attack vines to the demonic hearse driver, Nolan has filled his screenplay with Satanic Symbols spelling out the nightmare scenario (Now Realized) when Lucifer's Three C's (Conservatism, Communism, and job-killing Capitalism) have merged together to become fully interchangeable. There is no escape from Putin's House of Death led by Commie Henchman Paul Ryan (or, by extension, Putin Tool Mitch McConnell's U.S. Senate, and such Putin enablers as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce). Americans who have stridently protested any prospect of living under Sharia Law have gleefully signed on the Devil's Dotted Line to back Putin's Repug Party, just as Marian Rolf cannot wait to join forces with Satan in BURNT OFFERINGS. Go figure.

From the Ashes: William F. Nolan on 'Burnt Offerings' (2015)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

This here is a very good and entertaining interview with writer William F. Nolan who discusses working on BURNT OFFERINGS. He starts off talking about how he got into screen writing and from here we get into the production of the film. He shares a lot of great stories about issues happening on and off the set including a very funny bit about Bette Davis hating Oliver Reed and Reed making sure to drive her crazy any chance he got. We also get some great stories about the other cast members as well as what Dan Curtis was like as a director. Nolan also goes off on the critics who attacked the film and talks about why he feels the film is so popular today. If you're a fan of the film then you're going to really enjoy the stories that are being told here. Nolan is certainly interesting to listen to and he makes this a very entertaining featurette.
