Actor and comedian Jim Gaffigan says his stand-up act has had to evolve during the Trump era as audiences have become more jaded and cynical.
Gaffigan, one of the stars of the HBO drama series “Full Circle,” appeared Tuesday on “The View” to promote his latest stand-up special, “Dark Pale.”
“I mean, we’ve been through hell, right?” Gaffigan said. “As a people, we’ve been through hell for like six or seven years. And I think there’s a sarcasm and a sardonic nature that’s kind of come into effect.
“And this is my 10th special. I’m just trying to get my dad to like me. Hopefully it’ll work,” Gaffigan said to laughs across “The View” table before cohost Joy Behar joked that Gaffigan and Donald Trump Jr. had “the same problem.”
Behar then asked Gaffigan about a story published Tuesday in The New York Times...

Salma Hayek reflected on her career and the person who helped her foray into comedy: Adam Sandler. In an interview with GQ UK, the Mexican actress spoke about how she was finally able to pivot her career thanks to her role in Grown Ups, which Sandler co-produced.
“I was typecast for a long time,” she said. “My entire life I wanted to do comedy and people wouldn’t give me comedies. I couldn’t land a role until I met Adam Sandler, who put me in a comedy, but I was in my forties!

Last week, we posted a list of five forgotten actors we’d like to see make a comeback, and the reaction was so strong, we decided to post a bunch more! There’s a ton of forgotten actors from the 80s and 90s we’d love to have back on our screen, so let’s take a look at another group of them today.
Kelly Jo Minter
Let’s start with a horror favorite and a regular presence on the convention circuit, Kelly Jo Minter. Most folks will remember her from A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, The People Under the Stairs, and a slew of television series appearances. She was everywhere for a while in the 1980s and 1990s, then projects started becoming further and further apart, with nothing between 2008 and 2019, then nothing since. This actress is beloved by many people, and she should get a new part,...

The Premium VOD debut of United Artists’ “Bill & Ted Face the Music” topped charts from the moment it debuted August 28. As a mid-budget title that’s thriving at $19.99, it could be as important as “Tenet” in determining the shape of movie distribution. “Bill & Ted” didn’t see much theatrical play, but given its day-and-date debut it also didn’t have the option. About 1,000 independent theaters did play the title, where by our estimate it grossed around $1.1 million, or around $1,000 per theater.
That’s not a lot, but it’s better than Searchlight’s theater-only flop “The Personal History of David Copperfield.” Based on those two performances, UA made the right move: Searchlight devoted marketing spend to a disappointheatrical release that now must wait until November before it can play VOD.
“Bill & Ted” was first on all three possible charts. “Fatima” (Picturehouse), the other new PVOD entry, appeared on two.

On a weekend with some semblance of indoor theatrical moviegoing, the VOD and streaming charts hit maximum inconsistency. Among our four top-10 VOD rankings: Four different titles placed #1 and 25 movies occupied 40 total positions. Only “The Tax Collector” (#1 FandangoNow) and “The Silencing” (#1 AppleTV) made all four lists.
The other two #1 positions were taken by 2013 Jason Statham-starrer “Homefront” (Google Play), likely boosted by its bargain $3.99 price. At Spectrum, “The Deep Blue Sea 3” took the top spot as it moved off premium pricing.
Among the titles that debuted last Friday, “The Vanished,” directed by actor Peter Facinelli and starring Thomas Jane and Anne Heche as parents searching for their daughter, scored best. It was in second or third place at three sites (Spectrum ends its chart before Friday releases). The higher-profile “Tesla” from Michael Almereyda starring Ethan Hawke debuted at #2 at Apple TV, a platform that often presages later success at other sites.

Netflix‘s new releases for August 2020 should be a hell of a good time.
How else are we supposed to describe the month that features the long-awaited arrival of Lucifer season 5? Yes, ol’ Lucy finally returns on August 21 for what is now the penultimate season of the show.
While Lucifer is the main highlight of Netflix’s original offerings on August, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some other intriguing options to stream. The Rain season 3 arrives on August 6, Wizards: Tales of Arcadia on August 7, and Teenage Bounty Hunters on August 14. That’s not even to mention a potential blockbuster movie in the form of the Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt starring Project Power.
In August, Netflix also continues its high-profile poaching of other worthwhile properties as well. August sees the arrival of both The Legend of Korra and Cobra Kai, opening up two worthwhile series to an even wider streaming audience.

Shudder original Creepshow is set to get a linear debut on AMC ahead of the digital launch of its second season.
The move is the latest example of AMC Networks moving its content “fluidly” between its portfolio of linear channels and digital services. Last year, it aired supernatural horror drama NOS4A2 on AMC before putting it on Shudder for a second run. Creepshow will air on AMC later this year.
“There’s absolute crossover between the brand and the content on some of our linear channels and Ott services,” COO Ed Carroll, speaking on its investor call following its financials, said. “We think that [Creepshow] will be successful on AMC but will also then build audiences for the season two launch back on Shudder.”

One millisecond is a nearly infinitesimal fraction of time. Heck, it just took you about a thousand milliseconds to read the words: “one millisecond.” So telling a story about a high-stakes race to convey information one measly millisecond faster than anybody else sounds like an exercise in making a heck of a lot of ado over, quite literally, almost nothing.
Thankfully, Kim Nguyen’s “The Hummingbird Project” is in on the joke. It’s a dryly humorous caper about a pair of cousins, Vincent (Jesse Eisenberg) and Anton (Alexander Skarsgård), who scheme to build a fiber-optic pipeline from Kansas City to New Jersey under the nose of their wealthy ex-employer, Eva Torres (Salma Hayek). Once built, their connection to the stock exchange will be one millisecond faster than anyone else’s, and that’s all the time they need to make a fortune.
Yes, that’s it; that’s their whole plan.

“My Frank and I can overcome anything as long as we’re together,” the very well-to-do Nancy Teagarten avers. Whether that includes going broke without their college-bound daughter or nosy neighbors knowing about it is debatable.
Here’s the first trailer for Drunk Parents, starring Alec Baldwin and Salma Hayek as the proud dad and mom who must scramble to cloak their financial implosion. Here’s the logline: Frank and Nancy Teagarten are a staunchly lower upper-class couple with a shiny black Range Rover and tasteful Tudor-style home. They couldn’t be prouder as they anxiously drop off their daughter at her first day of college. However, a visit by the repo man shortly thereafter leaves them scrambling to make ends meet, and it seems their wealth is less secure than it appears.

While most people might be thrilled at the thought of having Alec Baldwin and Salma Hayek as parents, one peak behind the curtain might have them changing their tune. The two telegenic stars play a married couple who have fallen into deep financial trouble in the simply titled “Drunk Parents,” a new comedy from “Grown Ups” scribe Fred Wolf which released a first trailer today. In addition to Baldwin and Hayek, the film stars a veritable feast of screen favorites that includes Jim Gaffigan, Joe Manganiello, Bridget Moynahan, Treat Williams, comedian Aasif Mandvi, and Broadway breakout Ben Platt.
The movie follows the upper middle-class couple as they hit a bit of financial trouble and struggle to pay their daughter’s college tuition. They launch a series of money-making schemes, including renting out a friend’s mansion and selling his possessions on craigslist. Gaffigan, whose presence at this year’s Sundance...

"You're supposed to be looking after his property!" Vertical Ent. has debuted the first trailer for the comedy Drunk Parents, directed by the writer of Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2 - which should give you a good idea of what to expect, and it explains why this title is so blunt. The plot follows two alcoholic parents who attempt to hide their ever increasing financial troubles from their daughter and their social circle through elaborate neighborhood schemes. Salma Hayek and Alec Baldwin star as the parents, and the full cast includes Joe Manganiello, Bridget Moynahan, Treat Williams, Jim Gaffigan, Aasif Mandvi, and Ben Platt, with Michelle Veintimilla as the daughter. Exclusive: Lunch Lady, the graphic novel series that had been set up at Universal Pictures, has moved to Sony Pictures with a new writer, Fred Wolf. The series, from writer-illustrator Jarrett Krosoczka, is described as a PG-13 family/action comedy with a female superhero.

Meanwhile, three kids figure out something is up and set out to prove that she is living two lives — one as a fierce crime fighter and the other as a mild-mannered woman who serves up mashed potatoes and green beans.

Exclusive: Fortitude International to launch sales in Cannes.
Fortitude International will introduce international buyers in Cannes to The Medusa starring Jesse Eisenberg, Pierce Brosnan and Vanessa Redgrave.
Peter Webber will direct his second film based on a renowned work of art after 2003’s Girl With A Pearl Earring, named after the painting by 17th century Dutch master Johannes Vermeer.
The Medusa stars Eisenberg as Theodore Gericault, the early 19th century pioneer of the French Romantic movement whose masterpiece The Raft Of The Medusa was inspired by the sinking of a French frigate.
Survivors of the wreck spoke of incompetence and cannibalism and the painting stirred anti-royalist sentiment at the time of King Louis Xviii’s rule.
Brosnan will portray Gericault’s uncle Caruel, the artist’s nemesis who is hell-bent on ruining him, while Redgrave plays the painter’s anti-royalist innkeeper.
Sophia Al-Maria adapted the screenplay from Jonathan Miles’s book The Wreck Of The Medusa.

Alec Baldwin and Scott Eastwood are bound for a dark, gritty and futuristic version of La – and we’re not talking Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2.
According to Deadline, Baldwin and Eastwood have been tapped to star in Crown Vic, a pulsing crime thriller arriving by way of writer-director Joel Souza. Filming has been pegged to get underway in the summer, when the two stars will portray a pair of “Lapd officers navigating through their own personal turmoil while hunting down a couple of vicious cop killers.” Jim Valdez and Chris Barish are attached to produce the new drama on behalf of Brand Inc Group banner, with Gregg Bello also lending his support.
Grizzled law enforcers on the hunt for cop killers reads like a crime noir in the making, though it remains to be seen what kind of tone Souza and Co. will settle for.
