Out of the seven elemental Creatures, only Ketar, Creature of Stone, Ikir, Creature of Fire, Terak, Creature of Earth and Agil, Creature of Light are named in the dialogue. The rest are called:
- Akida, Creature of Water
- Melum, Creature of Ice
- Uxar, Creature of the Jungle
The tribal-looking symbols the Toa wear on their masks and armor denote their names. These are the same as the classic Nuva symbols from the original Bionicle line, introduced in the Mata Nui Online Animations (2002).
Several poisoned Toa masks were included with the Beast toys, and Ekimu's toy came with a red variant of the mask of Umarak, the Hunter. Though fans have speculated about their purpose in the story, these masks do not make an appearance in the cartoon.
The cancellation of this series is partially due to the unexpected success of another Lego property, Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu (2011). Lego initially cancelled their Ninjago line of toys and its cartoon show after its second season, which had sparked a huge outcry from fans and children. As a result, Ninjago was brought back, and 2015 saw a large promotional push for the franchise. Lego originally wanted to focus their marketing efforts on their 2015 Bionicle relaunch, but in the last moment, they decided to push Ninjago into the limelight instead. Thus, the Bionicle toy line faltered in its sales without Lego's advertising, which eventually lead to the cancellation of its tie-in cartoon.
The first official publicity image released for the series was a CGI render of Tahu in his 2015 form, modeled exactly like his LEGO figure. This model does not appear in the series proper.
