Indicted Rep. George Santos (R-New York), who is famed for his many fabrications about his life story, now says he can prove one of the stories true – if only the Ukraine war would end.
One of the Brazilian-born congressman’s stranger claims is that he is of “Jew-ish heritage.” After news organizations were unable to find any evidence to support this story, Santos said this week he can prove his ancestry after he is able to get his hands on records located in Ukraine.
“That’s what I spent the last 10 months doing, putting together, but unfortunately Ukraine is in the middle of a frickin’ war, and my grandfather comes from Ukraine,” he told CNN. “That’s something … I’m gonna prove before I die.”
He later tried to qualify the claim by saying that he is “Jew-ish” – he is Roman Catholic but has some Jewish heritage.

A sealed copy of the Super Mario Bros. became the highest-selling video game ever at auction Friday with a winning bid of $114,000.
The 1985 cartridge, still in its original plastic sealing, sold to an anonymous bidder at Heritage Auctions’ event. The $114,000 winning bid bested the previous auction record of $100,000 for a single video game; that mark, set in February 2019, was also established by a sealed copy of Super Mario Bros.

Finalists to Conecta Fiction Reboot’s four pitching categories were unveiled Monday at the opening virtual session of the 4th Latin America-Europe TV co-production forum in Pamplona, Spain. Forced online due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the on-site edition returns to Pamplona’s Baluarte Congress Center over Sept. 2-3.
Conecta Fiction director Géraldine Gonard hosted the opening ceremony at which María Chivite, President of Navarre, sent a video greeting where she reiterated her steadfast support for the industry.

The Locarno Film Festival, which is Europe’s preeminent event dedicated to indie cinema, is moving into the vintage cinema space, just as streamers are snapping up library titles in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Swiss fest’s Locarno Pro industry component is launching Heritage Online, a first-of-its-kind platform that will serve as a database of film titles that premiered prior to 2005. The idea is to become a business facilitator between rights holders and streaming platforms.
The platform will be open to private and public archives and institutions, besides sales companies and producers and will feature a virtual screening room.
“It’s a necessary tool for professionals that fills a gap in the market at a time when there is more demand for this type of product and not enough information about it,” says Heritage Online project manager Markus Duffner.
Each company on the platform will have the...
