Last year, author Grady Hendrix contributed the 29 page short story Ankle Snatcher (you can read it Here) to the Amazon Original Stories Creature Feature collection, which also featured stories by Joe Hill, Josh Malerman, Paul Tremblay, Jason Mott, and Chandler Baker. Now, Deadline reports that Sony has acquired the rights to make a feature film adaptation of Ankle Snatcher.
Hendrix’s story follows Marcus, who grew up believing his father killed his mother — then blamed it on the boogeyman under the bed. Always leave the lights on, his father warned, or the boogeyman will get you. Marcus still heeds the superstition, especially when he invites his new girlfriend over. Is Marcus haunted by a creature or has he just inherited his father’s murderous delusions? The night will tell.
Hendrix will be producing the film alongside Escape Artist’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Tony Shaw, and Aperture Entertainment’s Adam Goldworm.

This weekend marks the release of writer/director Ted Geoghegan's third feature Brooklyn 45, now streaming on Shudder after a successful festival run earlier this year. Set in a single room over the course of one bitter cold night between Christmas and New Years Eve in 1945, a small group of war buddies get together to support an old friend…and commune with the dead in an impromptu seance. Naturally, the night does not go as planned. Secrets are revealed, morals are tested, and the group is visited by a ghost or two.
We sat down ahead of the release of Brooklyn 45 to talk with Ted Geoghegan about the process of fleshing out his military-focused story with his father (a retired U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant), why he enjoys working in specific periods of time, and what lessons modern American can learn from Post-wwii America.

A new Ted Geoghegan film gets us at ScreenAnarchy interested. He takes familiar horror tropes and makes them decidely unfamiliar in the most intimate and terrifying way, be that a haunted house in We Are Still Here or anti-colonial monsters in Mohawk. It seems he'ls done the same with seances in his new film, and we're even more excited to know it'll have a release on Shudder next month, June 9th. December 27, 1945. There’s a first for everything… and “This Place” marks the first film I’ve seen that weaves Indigenous and Asian heritage into a single production. A diverse, mostly Bipoc crew seem to be responsible for the magic. First-time feature director V.T. Nayani teams up here with Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs (“Reservation Dogs”) and newcomer Golshan Admoulaie, who each identify as Tamil, Mohawk and Iranian, respectively. Over the course of the last nine years, the trio have come together to come up with a cultural saladbowl of a movie. In “This Place,” ethnic differences transcend the feeling of displacement, where lonely souls are left seeking each other out on the streets.
This Place is screening at Toronto International Film Festival
“This Place” witnesses the increasingly intertwined lives of two women. Jacobs herself plays Kawenniióhstha, a half-Iranian, half-Mohawk aspiring poet who moves to Toronto alone. The city is rife with opportunity for her.

Ian Colletti (Preacher), Dawn Olivieri (House of Lies) and Denyce Lawton (Tyler Perry’s House of Payne) are set for recurring roles opposite Daniel Dae Kim and Tony Goldwyn in The Hot Zone: Anthrax, the second installment of National Geographic’s scripted anthology series. Filming is underway in Toronto.
The Hot Zone: Anthrax takes place in 2001, just weeks after 9/11, where another deadly act of terrorism rocked the United States. Letters containing anthrax were sent to unsuspecting victims in Florida, Washington, D.C. and New York. The anonymous assault claimed five lives and caused panic throughout the country. Despite interagency turf wars and many false leads, an unlikely team of scientists, FBI agents and government departments slowly closed in on a shocking prime suspect.

Ted Geoghegan is a jack of all trades. Not only is he a filmmaker, having helmed the very well received movies We Are Still Here and Mohawk, he’s a successful publicist. When not making films, he’s promoting others that he’s passionate about. Now, he’s also added podcaster to the mix, beginning a radio series called “This is Not a Story About…” during the current Covid-19 pandemic. Coronavirus has sapped the creativity and productivity of many, but not Geoghegan. So, it was a pleasure to chat with him about this latest venture, which is wonderfully well researched and a true cinephile’s dream. Yesterday I hopped on the phone with Geoghegan to talk about the podcast “This is Not a Story About…” and how this subject fascinates him so. Essentially, he tells a story about a bit of forgotten history, tied into a story you likely already know.

Travis Stevens is best known as a producer of such memorable projects as Cheap Thrills, Jodorowsky's Dune, Starry Eyes, Xx and Mohawk among many others but with the upcoming Girl on the Third Floor, he's adding writer and director to his resume.
This isn't exactly The Money Pit but that comedy is the first thing that came to mind when I saw the write-up for Stevens' debut which stars former WWE star Phil Brooks as Don Koch, the recent buyer of a dilapidated Victorian house. Don convinces his wife Liz (Trieste Kelly) that he can manage the renovations himself but he soon realizes that he's in over his head - and it probably doesn't help matters any that the house appears to have a sordid past and may be haunted.

Open 24 Hours is your third time being represented at Frightfest Why is it important you show your movies at the UK’s premier festival?
FrightFest is the best horror festival in the world. It has the best fans and the best organisers a genre director could hope for. There is so much love and care that goes into the festival and I’m honored every time I get to be a part of it. I’m just happy that they let me keep coming back and showing my films. Everyone involved has become like a family to me and I really can’t thank them enough for helping me with my career and showing my films.
Where did you get the story concept for Open 24 Hours?

A solid variety of strong content is coming to Netflix this June, including a recent Best Picture winner and one of the best sports movies ever made, but the whole lot of these new additions is easily overwhelmed by the single biggest title to hit streaming this year: “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” A brilliant and daring space epic that redefined the most famous movie franchise of them all, Rian Johnson’s game-changer is more than enough to justify that Netflix fee for another month.
Here are the seven best movies that are new to Netflix this June (click here for the full list of what the streaming giant is adding this month).
7. “Mohawk” (2017)
Horror maestro Ted Geoghegan makes good on the haunted promise of his debut feature, 2015’s “We Are Still Here,” by delivering another gnarly chunk of low-budget, high-value horror — this one even sharper and more violet than his last.

There’s no faulting the ambition of director Ted Geoghegan’s latest effort, “Mohawk.” At once both a moody and grizzly thriller about the grotesque crimes inflicted upon Native Americans, as well as a blustering historical horror whose dialogue nearly succeeds in undermining its powerful imagery, “Mohawk” at the very least, is a triumph in kinetic storytelling. The film’s hand reaches into every pocket, playing with numerous genres and motifs all the better able to service a plot so specific, so untold, and so worthy of being presented on the big screen that it feels refreshing by the merit of its own existence.

After building great buzz on the festival circuit, Mohawk will be available tomorrow (Friday, March 2, 2018) via a simultaneous VOD and HD Digital release. Per the official verbiage, the film "unfolds over the course of one bloody day during The War of 1812. Kaniehtiio Horn (Hemlock Grove), Justin Rain (Fear the Walking Dead), and Eamon Farren (Twin Peaks: The Return) star as three young lovers who set fire to an American camp as retribution for the decimation of the Mohawk people, but a handful of soldiers survive, now consumed by a hunger for revenge. "Led by Ezra Buzzington (Justified, The Middle), and including Ian Colletti ("Arseface" from AMC's Preacher) and Jonathan Huber (WWE Superstar Luke Harper making his big screen debut), these angry, lost...

Horrible things have always happened in the woods in horror movies, and “Mohawk” is no exception to the rule. But director Ted Geoghegan (“We Are Still Here”) twists the familiar revenge tropes in his historical thriller, exposing the brutality of racism and the dire future being faced by members of the Mohawk tribe in New York during the War of 1812. Taking cues from “Deliverance” and “I Spit On Your Grave,” “Mohawk” substitutes rape with racism, and puts Native Americans front and center in a revenge tale that doesn’t pull punches.
“Mohawk” sets the stage for conflict in the film’s opening scene, as Joshua (Eamon Farren), a British agent, speaks with members of the Mohawk tribe, warning them that American soldiers are on the move and will be coming for their land. Throughout the war, the tribe has remained neutral — but with the battleground approaching their own backyard, Joshua...

I've got a thrilling trailer for a great looking film that is worth checking out called Mohawk. The film comes from We Are Still Here director Ted Geoghegan, and the story is set during the War of 1812. It follows a young Mohawk warrior embarking on a journey of revenge as she hunts down the American soldiers that are after her. As you might imagine, the movie looks like it's gonna be pretty brutal. I'm really excited about this movie and I can't wait to check it out!
After one of her tribe sets an American camp ablaze, a young Mohawk warrior finds herself pursued by a contingent of military renegades set on revenge. Fleeing deep into the woods they call home, Oak and Calvin, along with their British companion Joshua, must now fight back against the bloodthirsty Colonel Holt and his soldiers – using every resource both real and supernatural that the winding forest can offer.

"There's something in these woods!" Dark Sky Films has debuted an official trailer for indie action thriller Mohawk, which premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival last year. From director Ted Geoghegan, the is about a badass, young Mohawk warrior who wages a one-woman war against bloodthirsty soldiers. Starring Canadian actress Kaniehtiio "Tiio" Horn (seen on Netflix's "Hemlock Grove") as Oak, who was raised on the Kahnawake Mohawk reserve in Quebec with her mother, Kahn-Tineta Horn, a Mohawk political activist who was once a '60s fashion model. Set late in the War of 1812, Oak and her two lovers battle a squad of American soldiers hell-bent on revenge after one of her tribe sets. Also starring Eamon Farren, Justin Rain, Ezra Buzzington, Noah Segan, Ian Colletti, Robert Longstreet, and Sheri Foster. This does look cool, though I'm not sure if the action is going to be great, this trailer doesn't have much.

As feature debuts go, director Ted Geoghegan’s 2015 ghost story We Are Still Here was a real kick in the ass: a slow-burn throwback to the work of Lucio Fulci that spent most of its running time building dread and atmosphere before exploding into outrageous gore in its go-for-broke climax. Beyond being an extremely effective haunted house movie (my favorite horror movie of that year), it was also a sad and atmospheric meditation on grief and loss—there was a genuine emotional backbone to the story, making it just as involving as it was scary.
For Mohawk, his 2017 follow-up that recently screened at Chicago’s Cinepocalypse film festival, Geoghegan has done it again, sneaking a real human story into thrilling genre fare. Living in Chicago, I spend much of my year being jealous of all the people I see online going to the various genre film festivals held around the parts of the country that aren’t here… until now.
For the first time ever, Chicago is getting its very own full-blown genre festival with Cinepocalypse, a week-long event running November 2nd–9th at the Music Box Theatre, the best place to see a movie in the entire city. Formerly the Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival (which I have attended since it began and always completely loved), Cinepocalypse now has a new venue, a larger and more ambitious slate of programming, and dozens of special guests. It’s going to be bigger and better than any festival of its kind the city has ever seen, and I can’t wait to be there as much as possible to see as many cool movies as possible.

There are a few Canadian titles in the mix this year; Chad Archibald's The Heretics, Lowell Dean's Another Wolfcop, Peter Ricq's Dead Shack, and Leo Scherman's Trench 11. Partnering with the Montreal-based talent agency Woolf + Lapin, Fantasia’s Samsung Gear Vr Experience brought in 12 360-experiences that showcased the different ways genre filmmakers were using virtual reality.

Vengeful spirits and grisly sadism feature prominently in Ted Geoghegan's Mohawk, but this 1814 tale of Native- versus Anglo-American conflict isn't quite the exploitation flick many Fantasia attendees will expect. Respectful of its heroes' suffering and willing (for a while, at least) not to afford them the usual big-screen satisfactions, it mourns a centuries-old genocide through the torment of three young protagonists. Its peculiar angle on the struggle presents difficulties marketing to genre audiences who'll expect a more conventional cat-and-mouse thriller, but many who find the low-budget period piece will appreciate its seriousness.

It was a sun-hammered day in Syracuse, the penultimate day of shooting Mohawk, that I was invited on set to poke around, take a few pictures, and talk to the cast and crew of Ted Geoghegan's early 19th century action picture. There was a hold-your-breath calm to a series of moments being captured right before they shot the big pyrotechnics action sequence the following day. The open spaces of the Skä•noñh, Great Law of Peace Center, afforded little shelter, and from the humidity, none at all. Here, less than a year later, the completed film has just had its world premiere at Fantasia. I have yet to catch the film as of yet, mainly due to prior travel commitments, and a desire to watch this one...

The 2017 Fantasia International Film Festival is currently underway in Montreal, and one of this writer’s most anticipated films out of this year’s lineup is Ted Geoghegan’s Mohawk, which is his second time at the helm after crafting his stunning supernatural debut, We Are Still Here, which was released in 2015.

The depiction of Native Americans in the movies is notorious for its reductive stereotypes. By those standards, “Mohawk,” a bloody, low-budget survival saga about members of a flailing tribe facing off against brutish American soldiers during the war of 1812, arrives like a revelation. The sophomore feature from Ted Geoghegan is a far cry from the haunted house tropes of his debut, “We Are Still Here,” but it explores a much more realistic horror — the struggle to survive against ruthless persecution, even as the future looks grim.
It’s a fast-paced action-thriller that, while rough around the edges, delivers a wild ride — and an implicit rebuke to the limitations of Hollywood storytelling.
The movie, which premiered at the 2017 Fantasia International Film Festival, revolves around the plight of Oak (Kaniehtiio Horn), a young member of the Mohawk tribe in upstate New York, and the two men with whom she enjoys a polyamorous...

One of the films that I am truly sad about missing at this year's Fantasia Int'l Film Festival is Ted Geoghegan's Mohawk, premiering tonight at the festival. Written by our friend Grady Hendrix and produced by another, Travis Stevens, I really, really wanted to experience this for the first time with an audience like the Montreal crowd. Sigh. For now though, this terrfic illustrated poster for their film will have to tide me over. It premiered yesterday. The inverted image is intentional I believe, for it speaks more about perspectives in line with the story of the film.
