Martin Villeneuve and Robert Lepage have met for the first time in 2004 on Cirque du Soleil's KÀ, which Lepage directed. Villeneuve was then working as an art director at the happening local advertising agency Sid Lee, in Montreal. Eight years later, Lepage starred as the holographic cosmologist Eugène Spaak in Villeneuve's feature film debut, Mars and April (2012), a sci-fi drama set in futuristic Montreal. Lepage also stars in Villeneuve's Imelda 2: le notaire (2020).
The award-winning advertising for this Cirque du Soleil show was one of the first full 3D CGI animations ever produced in Quebec. The director, Martin Villeneuve, later produced Mars and April (2012), Quebec's first true sci-fi movie mostly shot on green screen and using CGI sets.
In addition to directing this piece for Cirque du Soleil, filmmaker Martin Villeneuve actually came up with the name "KÀ" back when he was working for the Montreal commercial creativity agency Sid Lee. Villeneuve also found the name for two other Cirque du Soleil shows: "Zumanity" and "Corteo", as well as for Guy Laliberté's ONE DROP Foundation.
