I only watched it for the music and the dancing
CeeBee8625 April 2018
I have a thing for dance movies. Probably because I am a huge fail at dancing myself. Those type of movies just make me happy. Even if they are bad.

This movie was fine, but great? Nah. The acting wasn't that great, the storyline one huge cliche and predictable, the characters are far from original and the ending is easy to guess. It also reminded me a lot of times of the first Step up movie. Some scenes were almost a copy of that one.

But, the music and the dancing in this movie is just great. Like always. Just watch it for that. Don't expect to be blown away. Just, sit back, relax and watch for the music and the dance.

I will never get that 90 minutes back 😭😭😭

I watched it. I think I was running a fever and couldn't find the energy to locate the remote. I can't believe I really sat thru that whole thing. What a sorry Anglicized imitation of Bollywood movies. Pretended to feature a synthicized hip-hop. Fail. Massive fail.

Poorly executed Warning: Spoilers
This was one of the worst movies I have seen- maybe even the worst one. The main story isn't the problem here. I knew I was getting myself into a light hearted dance-movie. This isn't exactly the sub-genre you expect too much but even not much was too much too expect.

We have a woman who has family issues and a dance crew. Because she used the money her parents gave her for college to get an apartment and pursue dance she has to come to India with them for her father's colleagues sons wedding. This is far fetched as you can see even the genitives gave up on me for this one but we can see where this comes from. In India all she does is dance at the wedding where she meats an Indian dancer. The problem with him is: Her best friend from dance back home is in love with him too. As their romance unfolds we get more stories intertwined and the plot gets confusing. Her family argues and the parents are having a bad time. The triangle love story isn't getting anywhere because she feels bad for seeing the Indian dancer but doesn't stop dancing with him. The only one the viewer really sympathizes for is her best friend she completely ignores and doesn't stick to. All the drama that's created feels unnatural and comes out of nowhere. There is just too much going on simultaneously. In addition to the messy plot all the Indian accents are doing the situation any favor. They make everything more more confusing. It should have been an easy-to-watch movie but you had to really pay attention to even understand something. I have to spoiler here because the ending just didn't do the story any favor. In the end the Indian dancer and the girl find together (shocker, I know. You couldn't expect this *irony incoming*) but after all of this the dancers girlfriend from dance class is just okay with it and even helps her? They left way too many loose ends which weren't tied up and in the end I felt like everything fell apart. Why build up all of these characters if they didn't do the plot any favor? To conclude the plot review because I could rant on why I didn't like the plot: It didn't wasn't what the writers probably imagined. They might have had some good ideas behind all of the story but well - there was just too much story loaded on top to see them. Although the movie had a somewhat new storyline in comparison to the dance-movies where they have to form a new dance crew and fall in love with either one of the crew members or the person that helped them to form the crew it wasn't executed very well. The plot was not as good as it maybe even could have been if they cleaned it up and threw out some of the story line. The cinematography was mediocre, nothing too special or out of the norm just what you would expect for a chick-flick. I am not an expert on cinematography so the review mainly focuses on the plot.

If you're in for a really bad chick-flick/ dance-romance you might enjoy it but for me it was just too busy and not enjoyable. Hope this gave you some insight into the movie.

AWESOME CHEMISTRY
priscilliaabouo18 May 2020
If you are looking for a nice romantic movie on dance, you are at the right place. I have seen a lot of movies on romance with dance and music but this one is definitely in my TOP 3.

I can't remerber how I found it, but after watching the movie, I was surprised I had not hear anything about it before.

There is nothing revolutionary in the scenario, but I am pretty sure you will love the ride. The pictures, the colors and the choreographies are nice, but most of ALL, this SWEET chemistry between the two main leads. The way he looks at her, damn...I'm going to watch this movie again lool. Take some popcorn or a nice cup of tea and just give yourself permission to watch this nice romance.

So enjoyed this movie. Loved the plot, dancing and characters. Tried to learn the moves. Watched it about 20 times. Would really love to see a sequel with Krystal and Amitash

When you have nothing to lose....
nickmar-314993 February 2018
This is an interesting love story, a tale of two people from opposite ends of the Earth who meet by happenstance. Kelli, is a girl from Los Angeles, who should be studying law at UCLA, instead she cashes out her tuition and her living expenses to pursue a serious career in dance and hide it from her family who live probably somewhere in the midwest. Her father's friend's son is getting married in a traditional Indian wedding in India. You def get a sense both families are pretty upper middle class. Kelli begrudgingly goes with her parents and younger sister. Once she arrives to India, she is met with the groom's family, whose daughter is her age and who she danced with back in the states and is definitely raised Indian-American. As wedding starts to begin, she meets a handsome Indian man who is there to entertain guests and choreograph dance shows. Later in the movie we find he comes from a small rural village in India. He came to India to pursue his dreams to be a part of the Bollywood dance industry. He has 100% support from his family, living paycheck by paycheck and has nothing to lose, meanwhile Kelli is someone who has a lot to lose: her family (especially their approval) and the possibility of failure. Law school in the back of her mind, is obviously the mature alternative. So what is this girl to do? This is where their romance gets interesting, this strange meeting of two unlikely people and this is why this dance movie isn't really just a dance movie. I was in middle school when "Save The Last Dance" came out and that was a fun classic. This movie has a little bit of Linklater's "Before Sunrise", "West Side Story" and "Romeo+ Juliet" ... I really liked the film.. I didn't read up much on the film but thinking back I found it special. It's different and it takes you to the beautiful country of India which I indeed will visit after seeing this film. I encourage anyone with an open mind and heart to watch this one.

A pretty movie
poochsnout18 September 2018
I thought this movie was great. So much prettiness everywhere. The camera, the lighting, the succinct writing. The story is kind of a tried & true, struggling-artist love story that potentially could make this a tired one. But it is just the opposite. All of heavy hitting beauty in the production lifts this story, it's actors and the story-telling up. Very sweet.

A film that visually gives you a lot to see
georgej-615441 January 2018
Great music. The dancing is more interesting in this film than other dance films I remember cuz the main character is at an Indian wedding and she learns traditional Indian dancing which is visually stunning. I found this movie interesting. 9/10

Just relax and enjoy the ride...Oh...and the Dance & Music!
jimmino31 December 2017
From the start I hoped to be treated to an adventure...and boy did I get one! This was a wonderful surprise for me, I'm in the entertainment industry...Animation and have and good understanding of how to telling a story and how to make it interesting. This film has it all, the colorful country of India (and by that I mean the colors and the style of the culture!). Drama, Romance, Comedy..and Music & Dance. While you will see Bollywood, you'll also see how hard it is to be in a country that you do not know.

I'm a film buff of 60+ years old, meaning I started watching films when the were black & white and only in English and filmed in the U.S or UK. But, I lived in Italy for 12 years and that opened my eyes!

You'll need to open yours eyes to see outside the the world you live in. This film will let you look into a world of acceptance and understand as well as how to appreciate every moment of your life!

Ciao,

Jimmino

Like the music and visuals.
bumble91926 September 2019
I fell hell over heels with this story. It's cute and a lot of culture. India looks beautiful, Amitash is easy on the eyes. I'd love to go to India someday - maybe I'll get invited to an Indian wedding! It was great to understand more of the customs as I didn't know India could relate to western culture - the dancing was nice. Great music too! Maybe more like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" but for a younger audience.

I have things about dance as far as this one is the best one I have ever seen not only about following your dreams has all the movies I've watched I can say I said and watch this one over all day long and not have a problem and actually tears me up. But it's also about relearning how to love all over.
