The synopsis is more interesting than the actual plot
mat-fletcher9 March 2018
I was intrigued by this as the synopsis suggested that a social commentary on the ongoing German economic migrant problem was on the cards. Perhaps something that reflects current german opinion from both ends of the spectrum.

With the recent expansion of the German population by order of magnitude, these Germans have more right than many to be thinking about adverse effects of immigration, colonisation, multiculturalism. social disorder, cultural fragmentation and social change on a course that is taking them to an uncertain future that they never asked for.

Unfortunately this movie explores none of this.

Instead it´s like the movie ¨the purge¨ bad guys looking and acting in a very unrealistic way, there always seems to a be a girl watching every fight laughing manically. Everyone, including the victims, seems to know kung fu or kick boxing.

It´s not a very controversial film so I think that the people leaving reviews about muslims and whatnot have not actually watched this. The main thrust of the plot is about germans trying to kill another german anyway.

They switch between german and english throughout the film and I kind of wish they had just picked a language but it is representative of modern europe with the scale of movement of people that in areas like Berlin or other large cities, English is the common langauge.

Wasted opportunity to explore something current, serious and dark if you ask me but other than the brief glimpse of hope that this might be a good film, it´s destined to be buried and forgotten about.

Statement on the current political climate in Germany gone very wrong
Horst_In_Translation24 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
"Immigration Game" is a German, mostly German-language movie from 2017, still fairly new and fresh and this one runs for slightly over 1.5 hours. The writer and director is Krystof Zlatnik, does not sound very German, but yes he is. Won't say too much about the cast here as you can check the list out for yourself. For a film like this that has gotten some attention for sure, there are surprisingly few faous actors here and the only one that sounds slightly familiar, not very either is Mathis Landwehr and that is not a lot for a huge German film buff like me. First of all, the title sounds obviously like the Oscar-winning The Imitation Game starring the very overrated Benedict Cumberbatch, but it definitely has nothing in common with this movie, not in terms of quality and also not one bit in terms of contents. The "immigration" in the title is already a definite reference to how this film is closely connected to the refugee crisis that has been in the news for years now and the focus here is especially on Germany. The basic premise is that refugees are no longer allowed in. And if they want to, they can get in and risk their life because they have to make it to a certain safe haven and if they do, then they are allowed to stay. But on the way there, they can really get killed by anybody. The only thing that is not allowed is firearms. Everything else is: knives, clubs and bare fists of course too. So you could say it is also a bizarre take on the reality tv component here, even if this one does not feel half as dominant anymore as it did years ago with Big Brother finally also vanishing completely and yeah there are still these casting shows and the jungle show once every year or every second year, but all in all it is getting considerably less, so this film is more than a year or two too late. But even if it had been made earlier, it would still nothing change about the fact that it is simply a very uncreative approach. The filmmaker here really relies on the immigration background to carry the film because it is so contemporarily relevant. But it absolutely doesn't. The reason is that almost everything else, every other production value is weak or even horrible. This includes the acting too most of all, which is probably the weakest component. The script, the effects, editing and cinematography are also not anybody's brightest hour, but they are not as bad as the cast. Which is of course not just their fault, but the director's too because he really should have restricted them in their frequently over-the-top and very off-the-mark attempts in making this film as memorable as possible. Well, they do, but just in the negative sense. Simetimes the line delivers feels so fake and over the top, also with the intonation that if I wasn't somebody who always watches a film to the end would certainly have considered turning it off beforehand. This is also the meain reason why I give it only one star out of five. I had moments when I thought about two, but overall it is just too bad. The problem is also that the film has zero guilty pleasure potential because it really wants to be taken seriously and make a political statement on how we should deal with immigration (if we ignore the fantasy / sci-fi aspects) and that does nothing bot show how the gap between ambition and outcome here for basically everybody involved with this project in front of as well as behind the camera is gigantically big. It also needs to be said that the film despite the critical subject comes really short in involving the audience. I did not cheer for or against any of the characters I must say. When there's scenes when an immigrant gets beaten up and worse, it all feels violkent for the sake of it and it never feels that these scenes were included to tell a convincing story and that they were necessary to depict the stae of things. Can I say anything positive about this film? Tough really. Maybe that the female actresses (and probably teh males too) were all really attractive. But yeah, some of them were also only tolerable when you would mute the film because of their horrible line delivery. Overall, this film gets a thumbs-down and I say skip the watch. Highly not recommended and I found it truly shocking that one American awards bodies in his blind desire for assimilation really fell for the message sent by this very clumsy work. There's so many flaws it's really impossible to ignore them all.

Not a movie as artistic or commercial product, it was mostly a written message.
mabdolalipour26 March 2018
The movie is not a well-done work. I think the main goal of the writer was to say " hey refugees stop coming to europe" and this movie is just a jerry-build product covering the main goal . I think the main character was quit a mess, a man who is pro in fighting is selected for fighting( this kind of simply starting stories are fusty) and it seems that they wanted to dress up the poor story-line by some action scene clothes where the clothes was quit a mess again. I think there is a minor anger against refugees in movie producer's mind. the red-blue masked man in final action scene looks a refugee and the writers anonymously says " hey the refugees deserve to treat like that". If they wanted to say hey please stop immigrating, there can be lots of ways to show that rather than violence. after all it was not a movie to watch but it might be political-social message from an angry man.

Boring movie !
Harfy15 June 2017
Jeez...I watched 35 minutes of this movie, then I jumped to the end.

What can I say about that awful thing ? Dumb main character, stupid plot, bad writing, bad acting, discount fights, and lots of shaky camera.

Don't waste your time watching this, go watch "Le prix du danger" instead, it's an old movie (with + or - same plot) but it's way better.

1/10.

Another Purge
searchanddestroy-118 September 2018
This film is the mix-up between PURGE movies series and Yves Boisset's LE PRIX DU DANGER, or Paul Michael Glaser's RUNNING MAN, adapted from Stephen King - Richard bachman - novel. If you have seen both, you'll get what I mean. A reality show which is also a social drama, especially for Germany where immigration is a real problem. It is also possible to watch this film as a kind of anticipation feature. I find this movie rather realistic in directing.but maybe not Always acting. I could not imagine Hollywood making this film in the very same way, the topic yes, but not the rest.I did not expect such a good film. But a man with broken finger(s), I Don't think he can fight just afterwards. The main good points are the absence of clichés, especially concerning the bad guys: soùe of them are not even white people. EXQUISITE ending. One thousand times better than THE PURGE series.

What a cheap piece of trash..
heretic36910 March 2018
Not to speak of how unrealistic this stupid little movie is (as in reality it´s more that germans have to fear brutality from "poor refugees"). One has to guess that´s how leftwing radicals see their own country.

Anyway, even ignoring the stupid setting and story of the movie it is incredibly cheaply done and simply boring. The fights as well as the acting fits into this as well.

Better watch Running Man for good action instead.

Is it true????
sefatishtiak21 January 2019
I don't know what I've just watched.... Are the Germans that much brutal? Will they really love to kill immigrants just like this in near future? I was interested to do my higher studies there, this movie kills my dream and maybe it's a fiction, but it shows Germans as one of the most brutal nations in the world....

what a vision as refugee
tmf-39 July 2017
It is not a easy journey you make in this movie. If you realize how badly refugees from Syria are treated and have to run for their life in a game for a green card. It gives you a vision how it could be to be a refugee without any rights in our nice world of democracy. The first time I got the feeling how lost a life can be. I like the way this movie works and also the way of style the movie is made. Its not Hollywood fiction over acting. Its real... Real People, real setting, really special...

Really?
hilary_mae-912-8056128 October 2017
With what the real world is facing now, this movie is in really bad taste. Doesn't matter what side you take with your opinions on what is happening, but the very fact that people made a movie to incite violence is a disgrace. The movie demonstrates just how much "civilization" if that is what you want to call it, is de-evolving.
