"Schatz, nimm Du sie!" is a pretty new German film as this one hit theaters back in February this year (2017). These 90 minutes are the most recent work by director Sven Unterwaldt Jr., who is mostly known for his works with Otto, but also for his collaborations with Atze Schröder that puts things a bit into perspective. The writer is Jens-Frederik Otto and his body of work also does not really raise my expectations here to be honest. But things turned out probably even worse than I expected. This film is really one for the uncivilized mass these days in Germany that considers Schweighöfer comedies quality entertainment and sadly it seems as if they are not the minority anymore. But back to this one here: We have a couple in the center of it and who decide that they have turned into friends and aren't lovers anymore and that's why they are going for a divorce. As a consequence, they have to explain it to their friends, to their children while getting along with professional challenges (especially the wife) and also juggling new love relationships in their lives. At the end, the audience as always gets some "really dramatic" moments when the kids are endangered by a burning house and the parents are at fault for chasing the kids away. But of course everybody gets saved in the end and this includes the boy's pet hamster. And of course the two get together again eventually and get ready for their third child.

Predictability is one major issue in this film (unsurprisingly), but there are more. The comedy writing and plot writing too are really on the lowest level and it is honestly embarrassing to see such a script by somebody who has been working in the industry for so long. One of the worst examples is probably when Kebekus crashes the party where her daughter is and starts making comments about her daughter's date's dick and her daughter's growing breast. This was really all that is wrong with German comedy in a nutshell and you should be ashamed if you keep falling for stuff like that. As for the actors, Kebekus is a comedian, basically a thinner brunette, more stunning, but equally obscene version of Cindy aus Marzahn and you cannot really say if she has acting talent judging from her first lead performance here as the nonsense script destroys all potential really when it comes to character development. Male lead is Maxim Mehmet and the same is true for him with the exception that he really is a professional actor. The only one who occasionally managed to make the bad writing look tolerable was Ludger Pistor and you could see why he was already cast in some pretty great films (such as Bond). But yeah, other than that, the movie is a mess from start to finish. Unrealistic, unfunny, uninspired - highly not recommended.
