Warning: Spoilers
I love that this episode brings Maya back to herself and that it uses Pompeii as a metaphor for what happens when you hold things in for too long. The whole episode is a great way to remind us about Cory's life lesson from season one "People Change People" because not only does it show how much Riley has changed Maya but it reminds us of Boy Meets World "Wrong Side Of The Tracks" when Shawn was going through his own identity crisis and how if Cory hadn't been there Shawn could have really gone down the wrong path. It also reminds us of the episode where Shawn got brought back to Turner's by a cop and the whole conversation that Turner had with him, Shawn: "Thanks for covering for me Cory's folks would have freaked if I showed upwith that cop." Turner: "Oh like this! Would they have yelled at you like this." Shawn: "Yeah, That's Pretty Good." Turner: "Would they have told you how stupid you are for being out so late." Shawn: "Okay I get your point." Turner: "No, I don't think you do." Shawn: "Fine, Than I'll just get out of your way.", I thought you were cooler than that." Turner: "No I'm not Cool at all. In fact I get real old-fashioned when I see someone I care about being brought home by cops." Shawn: "Mr. Turner do you have to yell because I've had a really rotten night." Turner: "Oh, Do you see me ballroom dancing here?" Shawn: "Look, Is this gonna take all night cause I got places to be man." Turner: "Hunter, you keep going down this life track you're on than the places you're going to end up aren't any places you're gonna wanna be man." Because this shows the beginning of how much Jon cared about what happened to Shawn and after this incident Turner invited Shawn to live with him which was exactly the stabilizing influence that Shawn needed. This specific moment confirmed that the only thing that would have improved this episode is if Shawn had been there when Maya got brought home by the cop so he could experience a little bit of what Jon felt when the same thing happened to him because I would have loved to see his reaction since his past history with law enforcement is so colorful and while neither Shawn nor Maya actually got in trouble things could have gone a lot worse for both of them if they hadn't had the influence of their best friends to steady them. It's a little weird to me that we don't see Shawn again until "Girl Meets I Do" since he and Katy are engaged now and I would have been interested to see how Shawn's reaction to the Ski Lodge trip, Riley's mirror injury of what happened to Cory on their trip and the revelation about who Evan was-since he knows how much the Ski Lodge screwed up Cory and Topanga. Even after the wedding ep we don't see much of Shawn till "Girl Meets Goodbye." One assumes for part of that he and Katy were on their honeymoon and that for the rest he was on assignment or packing up his cabin so he could move in with Katy and Maya. I just wish we could have seen more Katy and Shawn being married and more of Shawn being Maya's dad.
