Okay.. I, um. My head hurts
brett-3462622 December 2021
So, let me start by saying I will watch this whole movie than update as and if needed. I love cheesy cheeky horror films I truely do. My partner refuses to look at my streaming accounts due to the amount I watch, thus the reason why this title showed up.

With that said let me give my review based on the first 3 minutes .. yes, the first three minutes of this movie.

The opening scene is what I assume is "the cabin". I am already confused by this screen and wondering what they are trying to say by this. It appears to be dusk or maybe later. The cabin and trees are brightly light with flood lights. I can't tell if it's supposed to be day or night. Then suddenly, the durt burst open and the heroin runs though the door as two men in shrouds chasing after her though the woods.

She quicky darts and zigzags back and forth, panting and sobbing. Then as the two people catche her, and I think "oh no! She's done for!?" But no! She bust her Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon moves! I again have many questions at this point. Why is she scared? Who is she? How did they catch her if she is so good?

After several round house kicks, dodging attacks like Neo from The Matrix she finishes the last dude with her Kamehameha Elbow Drop.

As I am sitting here befuttled I notice the subtitles have her titled as "Kung Fu Virgin" Okay.... Next thing I know she is spilling her blood on what appers to be a book.. again questions. Where did this book come from?

Then a black CGI death Unicron from what looks like a 12 year olds 1980 Mac computer shows up and stabs her with it's horn and bamn.... 3 minutes of my life gone with me left wondering what just happened.

So yeah, enjoy the movie because I'm unsure what's happening in my life right now.

The worst film I have seen all year - nope - decade
mjsreg3 September 2018
This really is the most atrocious film I have seen for years.

Pick anything about cinema or film making and this is a perfect example of how not to do it.

There is acting - just very bad acting. There is a picture - which was probably produced by someone who has never seen one before - certainly not a moving one. There is noise of sorts - most likely produced by recording on to a tin of baked beans - which were subsequently eaten and regurgitated for sound effects. The lighting is terrible, the 'special effects' are the worst I have ever seen, the scenery came straight from a supermarket and they left the packaging on. The lsit goes on and on.

This is either a zero because it really is that bad, or it is a 10 for managing to get released in any form - a master-stroke of double bluff.

You will be disappointed if you watch this film. But once you start you really do have to watch it to the end just to make sure you haven't gone mad.

I only gave it two starts because Danae Swinburne is mega cute and gets her kit off.

Goofy and cheesy low-budget effort with some minor issues
kannibalcorpsegrinder10 January 2021
Following a horrendous personal day, a woman agrees to join her friends for a camping vacation at a secluded cabin in the woods, but when it turns out to by a ploy by a demonic cult to possess her friends to get access to her she has to fight off the creatures to get away.

This one ended up being a decent if slightly flawed effort. When this one works is due to the wholly engaging setup of getting everything together for the experiences at the cabin. Starting with her bad luck of performing for an awful band which fires her for saying that and returning home to her boyfriend leaving her and her best friend being unsupportive, the whole setup for the trip and what it means for her is all laid out quite nicely. As well, with the few flashes of the demonic entities of the cabin offering some fine foreshadowing of the major events to come and a couple of chilling visions anyway, this setup in concept works quite well to give this a great reason for the group to take the trip. The few hints of comedy about her awkwardness in their company is a nice help to things. That leads into the rather fun and somewhat chilling action that occurs at the cabin. Starting almost immediately with the signs that something's wrong by the changing picture in the living room, the series of tactics used to possess each of the friends by having spiders attack the screwing couple or the parasite swimming up the one in the bath manage to give a great indication of where this is going as the possessed launch some ingenious attacks to get at her. Utilizing the severed head to the various possessed animals they have to battle and the big confrontation with the final demons which are goofy, silly and wholly enjoyable, this one has a lot to like in the final half. Combined with a lot of impressive cheesy practical effects for the monsters and gore, these all make for a fun time with this one. There are some issues to be had with this one. The major flaw found here is the wholly messy and underwhelming story that tends to play by its own rules whenever it wants to, resulting in some confusing efforts here. By going for the anyone can be possessed at any time route and not making any rules about what the possessed can do, what happens to them while possessed or how their attacks have a central purpose, there's no main throughline as to how the behavior affected by the possession works resulting in a wholly discordant feeling. Likewise, you also have to deal with a multitude of budgetary issues, from unimpressive CGI inserts, lackluster fight choreography and a single-location setup which all manage to make it obvious for some about this kind of film. Overall, these are what manage to hold it back the most.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Nudity, Extreme Graphic Language, a sex scene and drug use.

First THREE minutes - Shut It Off
comblitz5 July 2018
This is so bad, it's not even worth joking about. Lady runs out of house in panic 2 guys chase her in monk clothing 2 guys catch up to her and she becomes like Bruce Lee and takes them down (why did she run in the first place with such fear on her face if she had those mad skills?) So obvious the punches and kicks weren't landing, maybe the director saw movies like this where we believe they were being hit and thought it was easy to replicate. She starts chanting. A ridiculous cheap prop of a black unicorn comes out and stabs her with her horn in a very obvious "on the side"fake out. I am done.

I AM WRONG if this scene turns out to be some professor in college showing the class how not to make a movie, but I think this was actually an attempt to have a compelling introduction.

I think there should be some child labor investigation because this seems to be made by a bunch of kids in 2nd grade.

'No' is a word that pretty much sums up the entire movie here...
paul_haakonsen29 June 2018
I didn't even know what this movie was about prior to sitting down to watch it, only that it was supposedly a horror movie.

Well, this was a low budget movie in every aspect of that term; from the cheesy special effects, to the acting and to the production level. Now, you might wonder if it was bad enough to actually be entertaining and watchable. Nope. Let me just clear that right up; it wasn't!

I managed to endure about 15 minutes of this movie before I gave up. It was just unfathomably boring and lacked production value to be appealing to me.

The acting in the movie was every bit as expected for a movie such as this. The plus side here was that it was all unfamiliar faces on the screen.

I am not going to be returning to watch more of "Tarnation", as the movie had absolutely no appeal to me in any way.

Self-aware and Loving "Evil Dead"homage!
KolobosRexx24 February 2021
This a a total blast of a low-budget, horror comedy homage to the "Evil Dead" movies, with some "Gremlins" references for good measure! Clever use of sparse budgetary availability and practical effects, plus Oscar and Rain are absolute eye-candy cuties! Highly recommended!

"Being the chosen one really sucks".
lost-in-limbo24 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Is there originality in its all too familiar bubblegum premise, no, well actually, kinda? This Australian minor-budgeted feature does walk the walk of throwing gimmicky ideas out there and seeing what sticks. The canvas is abstract, and wall-to-wall impulsive. So prepare to be tripped out and boozed up, drowned in squirting blood, rocking out some tunes and bombarded by dopey possessed (friends turned) ghouls in what feels like a whiplash of genre homages. A cabin-in-the-sticks trope screaming "Evil Dead" - well, hidden away in the corner of the shack is a poster for the film - engulfs this raunchy, crazy-stupid demonic branded horror of cartoonish thrills, pulsating stoner humour and self-knowing performances set up against an eliminating backdrop of pop-up aesthetics, stagey sets, a fog machine and green/pink fluorescent lighting.

This is the type of film you'll either be turned off by its in-your-face obnoxiousness, and amateurish-looking theatre quality or shut off your brain and simply go along with this dirty, wild weekend from hell. I went with the latter, although there are spots where the fun turns to mockery, which can test your patience. Anyway what do you expect when you get a mechanical demonic unicorn head puppet(?!), sometimes becoming a human/unicorn hybrid with feathered wings which can fly(?!), centipede crawling out of a... ah, best you see it yourself(?!), a mutant spider bug from hell(?!), a lot releasing of bodily fluids, a zombie kangaroo with boxing gloves(?!), a bleeding painting that can foretell the future, a blood-soaked fur rug that transforms into a gateway for evil minions and a climatic rap-off against the forces of evil. I'm sure something there, will be tempting enough. Nice to see these moments are done using practical effects and Daisy Masterman was a lot fun as the brash heroine.

"Tarnation" doesn't pretend to be anything else than what it's all about; crass laughs and outrageous shocks on-the-cheap. I might have to check out the director's other films, "Sheborg Massacre" and "Murderdrome" to see if they're as just bonkers.

"Klaatu Barada Necktie!"
Krhhmg26 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
First things first: yes, it is a trash movie. yes, mr raimi could probably sue them for blatant stealing. but no, it is not as horrible as the ratings suggest.

if you don't get over the first 5 minutes, you can turn it off. it doesn't get any 'better' throughout the whole playtime. if you're like, hey, that's a nice start - you are highly recommended to sit through it.

there are indeed many plot holes and scenes one wonders what their point is. it still is a quite entertaining flick for all lovers for tongue-in-cheek horror movies. when have you ever - except in the 'cabin in the woods' - seen a killing unicorn? or a fur carpet that turns into a portal to the heck knows where? it also has a unique rap battle between an obese demon and our protagonist. the soundtrack, as a whole, is, with minor exceptions, pretty well chosen

the only thing that might disappoint is the mask of said unicorn. but as soon as you tell yourself it's supposed to be a mask for a possessed entity, you're good.

one final recommendation: don't watch it sober!

Haven't laughed this much in ages. Totally mental film very funny. Great horror comedy done on tiny budget. Sure it steals from many well known movies but the flying unicorn woman is worth the price of admission!!

So you self a favour ignore the bad reviews sit back and enjoy

I had fun
BandSAboutMovies15 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This was originally called Tarnation, which may be a better title. That said, I really dug Oscar's (Daisy Masterman, MurderDrome) story, as she must get over the loss of her man, her job and her cat by going to a cabin in the, well, woods to work out her life. Too bad there's a demon unique out in them woods who needs her blood to bring Satan himself to Earth. Yeah, I wrote that.

Daniel Armstrong also made Fight Like a Girl, SheBorg and Nova Star, all films that tick the many boxes - pro wrestling, pretty girls, blood, ridiculousness - that are what we look for around here. For more films from the director, check out Strong Arm Studio.

If you love Evil Dead half as much as these guys, you should check it out, if only for the fact that there's also a demonic kangaroo and sex so hot that it melts through the carpet. I've never seen either of those things before.

There's also a rap battle with the hordes of Hell, band practice and lots and lots of blood. I mean, a lot.

While the poster for the new title is nice, check out this old one and tell me, don't you want to see a movie with art like this? It's goofy fun and you could do worse with your time.

Yeah. It might be. Rock'n'roll. I wish I could include a plot summary here, but there is none. This movie just gets more and more bonkers.

Low budget but so much heart and creativity!
hellokenney7 December 2021
This movie is a love letter to Evil Dead and the "cabin in the woods" horror genre. It is a horror comedy and leans more towards the comedy side. If you are expecting a movie with a lot of scares or serious story, this isn't it. This is a movie carefully crafted for fans of the evil dead and campy horror. The budget may be small but this movie was super fun. The actors gave it their all and I appreciate the generous portion of high quality boobage. It got better and better as it went along. Highly recommended to that small group of freaks that love stuff like this.
