"Wie Männer über Frauen reden", which basically means "How Men talk about Women" is a German comedy movie from last year (2016). It runs for 90 minutes almost and was directed by Henrik Regel. The script comes from Carsten Regel, maybe the director's brother. The cast is not too bad: Laur, Korittke, Metschurat and Kida Khodr Ramadan are actors that German film buffs will most likely recognize. But this is also the only recognizable aspect here. The entire thing is another pretty forgettable German comedy movie and I can't even blame the filmmakers for making this movie because this low quality is apparently what German audiences want to see right now. The best example are the Schweighöfer comedies and this one here is on par with these, which is not a good thing unfortunately. The humor is obscene and try-hard on most occasions and offers as little depth as the way the characters are depicted. It tell that it is appropriate for girls in love with their best friends to sleep with the best friend's male best friend in order to make him jealous. Oh wait, that's not what she did right? Let me correct it. It is fitting for females in love with their best friends to abduct the best friend's best friend, put him into a compromising situation and make him think he had sex with her in order to make the best friend jealous. Oh yeah, also give him tons of alcohol, so he won't remember anything.

I can only shake my head at that, especially as the likes of Lau and KKR (who collaborated on good films in the past too) have much more acting talent than they are allowed to put on display here. Barnaby Matschurat (Anatomie 2) shows why he is not considered one of the German acting elite of his age group for a really long time. He is very forgettable and the only good thing I can say about him is that at least he is not as bad as his female co-lead Ellenie Salvo González, who is really completely forgettable and completely incapable of carrying this movie as the one female with by far the most screen time. Funnily, another actress has only one scene and she is far superior. I am not talking about the equally bad Kasumba, but about Claudia Eisinger. Then again, I am slightly biased when it comes to her as I quite like her. So yeah, the supporting actors/characters here were much much more interesting and entertaining than the two central characters in here, which is of course a negative deal-breaker as these supporting character most of the time aren't great either, just not as forgettable as Metschurat and ESG. All in all, it is not a failure of a movie, but the good moments are far from enough for a 1.5-hour film. The Regels' lack of experience clearly shows. Not recommended.

Men and Women ... all the same

While this does focus on the differences, it also makes clear that we aren't that different after all. It also and I'll make that clear right away has and uses many clichés. But the actors really pull it off, if you don't mind too much. It's actually fun to watch and it is very free spirited with love and sexuality.

That doesn't mean you have to agree with the ways characters are acting. You may feel that some of them are despicable, but that is the role they play. And both genders have their weaknesses of course. Listening to your best friend can be disastrous for example. And yes that goes for both sides. But it's light-hearted and can and will make fun of itself
